South American distance champion as well :cheer: (with a fall on the bottom part of a downhill right before a climb, meaning she had to enter the climb with 0 speed as opposed to the rest who raced down and had extra speed going up)

Sad for Gabi though. The South American distance title was supposed to be handed out today in the 5k freestyle, but for whatever reasons the Argentinian local team (and organizers) decided only a few days ago it'd be in the 5k classic. She barely trained classic technique though, focussing on the freestyle since that's where the medals would be awarded.

Meanwhile, Spanish-trained Manex Silva is on an absolute tear at the junior competitions, utterly destroying all the Brazil-trained Brazilians.

I'm not saying the training programs in Brazil don't seem to be working, but they sure don't seem to be functioning properly.

Swiss-Brazilian Steve Hiestand is apparently going to try and qualify for the Beijing Olympics. He's 35 years old and qualified for the Brazilian Olympic rowing team in 2016, but due to an IOC problem (something with nationality I guess) wasn't allowed to compete in the end. Today he finished barely half a minute behind Victor Santos (Brazil's 2018 Olympian)...and that's even though he only started skiing last year and his technique still has a lot to improve. Already almost under 200 FIS points today!

I'm now 150% behind Steve, let's go :cheer:

I am really surprised that you support someone based in Switzerland over skiers that are trying to make it out of Brazil. :yikes:

If anything, he reminds me of another versatile Brazilian XC skier...

The Brazilian male skiers I support now are based in Spain (Manex Silva), Austria (Matheus Vasconcellos), Switzerland (Steve Hiestand) and Brazil (Lucas Martins), one each :p

Start list for today's Ushuaia Loppet (50km) and the Marchablanca (25km) in the southernmost skiing area in the world.

It's the opening of the World Loppet 2019/20 season as well :)

Aaaaand they're off! For clarification: Ushuaia Loppet is 50km, Marchablanca is 25km. Here's a video of the start (too bad quality drops right at the actual start, around 9:30 minutes in the video)

Halfway and Bruna is in the lead of the women's race, 15-20 seconds ahead of someone else, don't know who. Also no clue about the men's race yet :p

American former biathlete Claire Waichler won the race.

https://www.biathlon.com.ua/profile/4846-kler-vayhler

Bruna was leading for the first 25 to 30 kilometers, but after that Claire passed and dropped her on the climbs on which she had a really, really good technique apparently. Bruna tried staying with her a bit, but that took so much out of her she didn't have power left to fight back on the flat parts, so all she could do was consolidate 2nd place ( Worldloppet medal :cheer:) and that worked out well, despite having bad cramps pretty much everywhere :d

Matias Zuloaga of Argentina won the men's race, ahead of compatriot Franco del Farra.

Good for Bruna. How were the skis? I’d imagine that was part of the issue with her not being able to keep speed with the American.

    • Playa del Carmen Elite16   Women’s Tournament Gold-  Carol Solberg/Rebecca Cavalcanti Silver-  Terese Cannon/Megan Kraft Bronze-  Kristen Nuss/Taryn Brasher   Shoutout to my new favourite pairing of Hüberli/Kernen, who have backed up their silver at the Yucatán Challenge by recording a quarterfinal finish here by defeating Olympic Champions  Duda/Ana Patricia in straight sets in the round of 12 (to be fair, they looked off all event long, but they also beat Nuss/Brasher). This team definitely has what it takes to be a top 5 team and consistently contending for medals. First time watching Kernen play, all I can say is how is she that good at only 19? She’s gonna be a star in the future.    Men’s Tournament Gold-  Noslen Diaz/Jorge Alayo  Silver-  Tomas Capogrosso/Nicolas Capogrosso  Bronze-  Chaim Schalk/James Shaw    Schalk/Shaw defeated Olympic champions  Ahman/Hellvig in the quarterfinals   Full Results

    • So I was watching a replay of China-Germany in between Canada’s game against Sweden and this one against Italy and… it seems like China cheated during it which could’ve been critical in them winning the match?    During the 1st end, Xu with his last rock had an easy hit for the single against three German stones. One of the sweepers for China (I can’t tell which one, this team is quite new to me) “accidentally” kicked their own stone, which redirected one of their own stones into the rings, and Germany only got the steal of 2. HIS FUCKING FOOT IS TOUCHING THE ROCK   Now after, Team Xu was claiming that the stone was picked (it was not) and Muskatewitz was arguing that it couldn’t possibly have been picked. China wouldn’t admit it, and they ended up winning the game 10-9. BOO.    Hope these cheaters don’t qualify for the Olympics.
    • Edin usually has mediocre seasons though (that being said this has been worse than usual), then really starts to show up for Worlds. He’s only won 4 GSOC events in his career.     They’re at a 4-2 record at the moment, so seems to be the case again. Plus, they played really well in their loss to Canada.

    • With a week to go till the deadline for the world invitational, the rosters look beefy for the discus on both sides.24 entries for the men[19 accepted in so far] and 25 for the women[18 accepted so far] For the men so far there are three 70 meter throwers[i count Denny as that since it's just 4 centimeters off his pb]10 from mid 66 to low 69,three of 65 and over, four from almost 64 to almost 65.On the women's side the 18 accepted throwers all have a pb of over 60 meters.11 of them have  pbs over 64 plus.of the ones still not there besides Valerie and Yaime who have been marketed so i can only assume they will join, such names as  Sandra Elkasevic,Bin Feng, and jordine van klinken aren't signed up yet, jordine's probably the most likely of them to join in tough feng would be a cool surprise,i somehow don't see Sandra doing this, but it would be awesome if she did.Stahl and ceh aren't in yet on the men's side, ceh has been marketed while stahl hasn't been mentioned at all,[pretty sure stahl will not be there],Lukas[last name is too wild for me to even try] and lawrence okoye aren't there yet either but i'm betting both will be joining in.
