How much a fresh pair costs?

A good one? A few hundred euros I believe. A pair of good carbon poles already costs 200, high quality boots are 400, about skis I'd have to ask later today.

Skis are generally around $300-800 USD I think. I looked at getting a pair two years ago, but I need to move somewhere closer to snow first. I’d only need one pair because I only do the classic technique.

Utterly destroyed everyone on the climb in the final, but in the descent they closed the gap (obviously, when you've got absolutely useless skis that are waxed even worse there's just nothing you can do) and Grötzner of Argentina passed her by a few centimeters in the final meter.

I have no words to describe how infuriating and frustrating all this is.

Well she is the Brazilian champion nonetheless, right?

Correct. Winning another South American title is gonna be next to impossible this way though, it'd be not much shy of a miracle to be honest (even though she no doubt is the strongest of all present).

Today's 5km in Ushuaia:

https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/general/results.html?sectorcode=CC&raceid=34291

"But 19 minutes for the winner, that's terrible!"

Yes, it is, because conditions were absolutely horrible! I mean, seriously, there is no way in hell a World Cup event would have not been cancelled with the just insane wind and snow conditions they had today. While skiing they could barely even see the track, and on the flat parts people had to use the uphill skiing technique just to keep going forward because of the wind!

Good thing is, this levelled the playing field significantly, since dogshit under the ski's made a lot less of a difference considering it was now much more about skill and power. Great way to close the week, on to the South American championships (on the same track) next week :cheer:

Those 10km classic times there are fast :yikes:

On the other hand, the 15km freestyle mass start ended in a time I know a certain Brazilian can do :yikes: (although it depends on the track of course)

:yikes:

It was reported yesterday that :NOR Sondre Turvoll Fossli had been hospitalized and today it was confirmed.

According to a press release from the Norwegian Ski Federation, Fossli suffered a cardiac arrest Monday morning. He quickly got life-saving first aid and was taken to Oslo University Hospital.

- Sondre is closely followed by cardiac specialists at the hospital and is doing well, says Ola Rønsen from the Ski Association who, according to the press release, has visited Fossli at the hospital.

- He is obviously very happy that he came from this with his life preserved. It is too early to say what consequences this could have for his skiing career, concludes Ola Rønsen.

130 athletes in Sunday's Ushuaia Loppet (part of the Worldloppet Tour, like the Vasaloppet) :cheer:

The real skiers start in the 50k, of course.

    • Sablikova started on the road cycling and just almost qualified for Rio 2016. Maybe Lollobrigida would like to join the Italian track team? She has the good character and 2 medals at the Olympics, one in winter and one in summer, would be a legendary achievement, not only in Italy.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martina_Sáblíková
    • One Wiebes is worth more than the all Italian team with Balsamo/Fidanza, etc., that much clear. Even if the Netherlands loses its dominance in the men's sprint, Wiebes will win 2-3 gold medals in other events. Just relax, man.
    • I'm most worried about our women's team in the pursuit – we have a reserve squad, but not advancing to the top 8 is a shame. We recently competed with out 1 team and had not good in 1 round. It doesn't look good. And the Netherlands are already taking Wiebes to the track team and will soon dominate the Madison/Omnium as well. Balsamo and Paternoster haven't made any progress for years and the our women's team at the Olympics has little chance to win a medal. Italy might even win World Championship/European Championship gold in the years after the Olympics, etc., but when the real fight comes, the UK or the USA will always beat us
    • Track cycling is one of the few sports where there is no host nation quota, so  will need to work hard to achieve our quotas.  It's not our best sport, but was happy to see Top 10 results in the Elimination Race for Grant Koontz and Emma Jimenez Palos (who is just 18!).
    • Yes, I saw the same thing you did @clemsonbeav (on both accounts) but I agree it looks pretty stock.
    • Also, I just logged back into my account, where it sent me to update my profile, and when I saved that, I got a screen that included a check mark next to 'Registered for the Draw'.  Not sure I totally trust it, but it does at least say so.  (There's nothing specifically referencing Drop 2 or anything...might just be a stock screen.). I'm curious what it would look like if you looked at it @esube.  https://tickets.la28.org/
    • I didn't buy any tickets, but didn't get the e-mail.   We bought tickets on my wife's account (earlier timeslot), but not 12, and she got the e-mail.

    • I am very curious.  We got extremely lucky in the first ticket drop, both my and my wife's emails were selected for relatively early time slots-- early enough that we bought our full allotment of tickets for good stuff.  Not swimming or gymnastics of course, but we were really pleased,  d   But today I received an email on one of those accounts saying that we were entered into the second drop because we hadn't used up our 12 ticket allotment.  I went back and counted-- twice-- and yes, we certainly did purchase 12 tickets on that account.      I am not sure I want any more!  Did this happen to anybody else?
