This tournament in Budapest was the last round of our trials (in 3 weights) and now we know the name of the freestyle team. in 57 and 70 both of our guys failed to medal :facepalm:so they had a re-match later after the finals.  hard to imagine Iran winning a medal in those 2 weights, specially at 57kg which is clearly impossible but I like our chances in other 8 weights.

our 92kg two time World Champion is injured :( so they had to test someone else in this weight in case Ghasempour doesn't make it (the other guy did good but ran into ISR in the SF and had to withdraw)

lots of things depend on Russia's participation. they will be top favorite in most weights if they participate. but the freestyle team title will be between Iran and USA. (AIN can't win team trophies)

HUN Ranking series was the last tournament before the Worlds. the seeding is finalized now

this 130kg guy won the gold medal without scoring a single point himself :yikes: that's amazing, isn't it ? all of his points were his opponents caution

there is a big hole in the rules since 2021 and there is no sign of change to fix the issue. under current rules in Greco-Roman lots of matches end 1-1 (if both guys fail to score which happens in close matches) and in this case the guy who was passive in the 1st period will win the match :d for that reason lots of heavyweight wrestlers prefer to receive the first caution. we saw lots of matches when both guys almost do nothing in the first period to be more "passive" :facepalm:that's how Ghasemi won the gold yesterday. :hairpull:

it looks like they're trying every trick to have GR wrestling removed from the Olympic program  :wall:

I'm waiting for something like this to happen in the Paris 2024 medal matches with some influent people going for a harsh protest against these rules and zac! the damage is done

finally after something like 2 years of absence, the great Abdulrashid Sadulaev came back to the mat for an international competition called "Commonwealth" ? (or something like that) and he was just a shadow of himself , almost lost to Sergey Kozyrev in the semifinal.

he missed the Russian nationals which was their trials for the Worlds 2023 (if they participate eventually) but will get a chance to wrestle national winner Zhabrailov later. but from what I saw today he can lose to any above average wrestler now. of course he has two months to improve but looks like he didn't train at all in past 2 years. he looked completely out of shape.

UWW provisionally suspended multiple time World bronze medalist Mohammad Ali Geraei because of what happened in Belgrade during the World Championships.

his brother M. Reza (World and Olympic Champion) was about to lose his lead in 1/8 final match against a Japanese wrestler until someone from the crowd (later revealed to be his brother) threw a bottle of water to the mat, stopped it for few minutes, giving his already-dead-brother some minutes to recover a bit and somehow survives the match 10-10 or 11-10. Reza lost his next match heavily (he was already dead) but came back the next day to win the bronze and the Olympic quota.

that was a very shameful act and he deserves a long ban  I would gladly give up that quota/medal. we were always proud of our wrestlers being fair and committed to sportsmanship

The World U23 Championship starts this Monday but without Iran, why ? because Albania denied visa the entire team. simply and Iran was supposed to send a strong team including some of our senior team members

Finland was supposed to host this event, but UWW took it away from them and gave it to Albania because they wouldn't allow Russians to participate. how funny

there must be severe consequences for countries doing this. but there isn't and even tiny little Albania allow itself to do what it's daddy does all the time.

lesson 1: if you don't want certain team to participate, don't say that out loud months before the event (like what Finland did)

I am very surprised they allowed russians to come. Hope, Albania will send them back from the airport.

It is absolutely clear: UWW is ignoring facts of war-support by russians. So they do not do their job according to the IOC recommendations.

The consequences were obvious: if sport authorities do not want to do their job it will be done by governments.

And the IOC has to blame itself only for all the "govermnent interventions in sports". They could stop UWW from doing that cynical steps to allow participation of Sadulaev and company. But the IOC was quiet.
