In other news, since Muchova didn't win FO, Beatriz Haddad Maia is guaranteed to debut in Top 10 on Monday. Also Elena Rybakina moves into CH #3 so the three best players of the last few months are ranked 1-2-3 now.

The world number 790 defeated world number 159 Elena Gabriela Ruse  7-6(5) 7-5 in the first round!

 

She came from qualifying with a 6-1 6-4 win over world number 403 Anna Turati  and 6-0 6-2 over world number 576 Adrienn Nagy 

 

Very good results from Pavlou this week, who is Sakkari's first cousin. With the resources she has access to, being the niece of a former top 50 player and cousin of a current top 10 player, I wonder how far she can go in her career.

 

It's a shame that Maria Sakkari's siblings did not ever play tennis, Greece could've had more good players 

And now she won her first ITF professional title at W25 Kursumlijska Banja, Serbia.

 

She came from qualifying and had wins in the main draw over the likes of no. 354 Reyngold, no. 189 Grammatikopoulou, no. 323 Bayerlova, and no. 299 Dinu. She won 7 matches in total and only lost one set.

 

Dimitra will now move up from her current ranking of 670 to around 475 in the WTA rankings.

Nastja Kolar and Alexandra Riley banned for life for match fixing between 2015-2020. Both were ITF regulars.

Now she won a W25 in Serbia from qualifying without dropping a set (Emma Raducanu who?), so this result doesn't seem out of the ordinary and she will be ranked around 360 after Wimbledon (and potentially higher depending on how she does this week in Spain).

Speaking of juniors, 16 year old Alina Korneeva just won the ITF 100k event in Figueira da Foz 6-0 6-0 in the final over Carole Monnet and could make the cut for the USO qualifying next month. As if Mirra Andreeva is the only 16yo Russian who will make waves on the big circuit. I wouldn't rule out Korneeva making some run now that she is probably done with the Junior Slams etc.

WTA YEC Finals venue is still TBA but rumours are it will be held in Saudi Arabia as WTA is strapped for cash and will do anything for a paycheck. Even Billie Jean King is lobbying for that location. After last year's empty stands in Fort Worth they might as well settle for empty stands for a higher price

Alright, Czech Republic has apparently lifted the ban on Russian & Belarussian players entering the country and Ostrava is rumoured to have joined the YEC chase (given how Vondrousova & Muchova might well make it). Obviously the ban affected Aryna Sabalenka who is a lock to make YEC (no Russians could make it though).
