Apparently :HKG Siobhan Haughey is an elite 100m breaststroker now. 1:06.05 tonight at the US open 15 minutes after swimming a 1:54.20 200m freestyle.

Also reaches the OQS, although she probably won’t swim it at Paris.

I have some sombre news for the Canadians here but Matt Temple just stole Josh Liendo's 100 fly Commonwealth record after clocking 50.25 at Japan Open :yikes:

It was a quite fruitful meet with lots of PBs from the Aussies including a national record by Sam Williamson in the 50 breast (26.51).

Kaylee got close her the 50 back WR today clocking 26.98 leading off a relay so maybe we're on 100 back WR watch again this week.

It was not to be. Maybe the 200 free PB earlier in the session took it out of her so she could "only" go 57.79.

Mollie put on a bit of a show in the 200 free going 1:54.36. It's gonna take a WR to beat her in Paris and even that might not be enough.

Iona Anderson (100BK) and Thomas Neill (200FR) both earned themselves Doha QTs. Kaylee did as well (200FR) but she's already ruled out going.

Rūta Meilutytė confirmed today at the Lithuanian sports awards, that she will be preparing for the Paris Olympics.

I wonder if she'll be able to contend for a medal in the 100m.

I just already assumed that she is going to Paris. She is at this stage the favourite as reigning world champion. Is she skipping 2024 Doha Worlds?

I wasn't entirely sure, because she is taking it event after event, not committing to everything. She had multiple interviews saying that she hasn't decided if she's taking part and that's why the journalists asked her yesterday to confirm.

There was also a good chance she was not participating if Russia was at the Olympics, since she is a huge activist for Ukraine and had a viral video of her swimming in "blood" where they dyed a lake red for a day.

I believe she is attending Doha though, that's why she skipped the short-course Euros.

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
