If Brazil scored the second goal sooner, he'd have reacted quicker IMO.

So, is Fernandinho replacing Casemiro for QF?

Probably. My guess is that Brazil will finally start with some significant changes (we also don't know about the Marcelo/Filipe Luis situation).

Firmino as Willian replacement sounds the only logical choice. Neymar/Coutinho are untouchable.

Polish commentators said that Marcelo was rested here on medical team's advice so I guess it's not that bad? It was reported as a mere back spasm?

I'm genuinely curious :d

France in 1986 beating BRA in QF losing to FRG in SF

Italy in 1982 beating BRA in QF Group and beating FRG in Final

Poland in 1978 draw with FRG in Group stage and losing to BRA in 2nd round

Austria in 1978 losing to BRA in Group stage and losing to FRG in 2nd round

East Germany lost in 1974 to BRA in 2nd round and beat FRG in 1st round

Yugoslavia draw in 1974 with BRA in 1st round and lost to FRG in 2nd round

Poland lost in 1974 to RG in 2nd round and beat BRA in 3rd place game

Netherlands as you probably know beat BRA in 1974 2nd round but lost to FRG in the Final....but in other hand beat GDR in 2nd round so hypothetically, we should count it too (Argentina also played with East Germany and Brazil) but lost to BRA

Peru lost in 1970 to FRG in group stage and BRA in QF

England lost in 1970 to BRA in group stage and FRG in QF

Chile lost to FRG in 1962 group stage and to BRA in SF

Sweden lost in 1958 to FRG in SF and to BRA in Final

Hungary won in 1954 against GER in Group stage and against BRA in QF but then again lost to GER in Final

Yugoslavia in 1954 draw with Brazil in Group stage and lost to GER in QF

That's actually a lot more often than I thought :yikes:

Although I guess a big part of that is due to a very limited number of teams in the tournament, since almost all of them are long ago.

Willian was quite good today (finally) so I don't see him going anywhere. Maybe Firmino replacing Gabriel Jesus?

I hope Marcelo is okay 'cause Filipe Luis didn't convince me.

Finally a good match for Brazil, but...

I'm rooting for Japan. If Russia could beat Spain, Japan can do it. Enough of European teams advancing to the next stage.

Also, if Japan advances, we'll have three teams (Japan, Croatia and Russia) that were long shots for the title advancing to the next round. Of course these teams have talent and heart, but also a nice share of luck, and that may help winning the title. :d:p

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
