What do the "Ranking Finals" mean?

Looks like it's a round between heats and QFs or SFs, with the participants that didn't qualify for the latter racing.

Yeah, if I'm not mistaken ranking finals are just sort of a more extended version of the 'A-final/B-final' kind of system to determine lower positions

Wow, this track looks really poor...it sort of reminds me like the European Youth Olympic Festival in Erzurum, for which it'd be fine, but for a world championships..?

Anna Seidel drives a Chinese down to the ice in the 1500m QF's. Result: Chinese gets a penalty, Seidel (who also fell) is advanced

yeah, it looks like the Barclays Center in New York...

it's a building not originally projected to host an ice rink, which then has been put in place by removing a lot of "normal" seats...

and in this case you can also clearly see that the ice surface is not frozen on an appropriate platform, at least not a good one in terms of "choreography" and that has a really awful look, both for the spectators on site and for those in front of their TV/PC screen...
