It`s true that the current play-off system is brutal and not very fair. The old system with a match and a rematch was better.

I am not saying this is why we lost, we should always be able to win against a team like Georgia, who aside from their goalkeeper and Kvaratskhelia have mostly players who play for small clubs, I mean one of their defenders on Tuesday night plays for Panetolikos, which is one of the worst teams in the Greek Super League.

We would never in a million years have a player in our starting 11 from a bottom table Greek club like that, yet here we are losing to a team that does...

I agree the old system was better, I'm sure you know because Italy was also a victim of this format for 2022, but if anything maybe the matches should be at a neutral location instead of giving one team the home advantage? I'm curious to see statistics on how many home teams advanced since they implemented this new system.

For EURO it is rather negative sum.

Only 2 out of 7 :d (well, 3 if you count neutral venue for :UKR as home...)

Home Final qualified

EURO 2020 :HUN & EURO 2024 :UKR (home but neutral venue lol)* & :GEO

Away Final qualified

EURO 2020 :SVK :SCO & :MKD & EURO 2024 :POL

However for World Cup this system was implemented only once for 2022 and funnily enough only home teams won the play-off final

:WAL :POL & :POR

    • American Qualification for 28 olympic seems to be given to SF qualified team in America   A2 vs B1(probably US, who is not related to this qualification process) .. A2 is difficult to be in SF A1 vs B2 seems likely to be Puerto Rico vs Mexico . So the winner would go to SF and win the ticekt   Japan vs Venezuela(?) : I think Venezuela also have high chances to win, but the Japan would be >50% in SF.  DR(?) vs Korea : DR could be also the winner (maybe >90%).  This Means that DR and PRorMexico(?) would have the highest chance to be in olympics.

    • Yeah all the new team sports have 6 teams. Squash only will have 16 entries per gender. I think they could've made an exception for baseball though. It's super popular in America. Venue should be packed for a lot of the games, especially for USA and other American nations.    I think it's a miss by the IOC to not have 10-12 teams to ensure that Mexico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and more American nations have a good chance to get in. Those nations have a large population in LA and would fill the venue.

    • This was extremely amazing   There were only few ways that Korea could advance.. and the 7-2 was last one.   Red case (5-0, 6-1, 7-2) was the only way korea wins... green for austrailia, blue for chinese taipei
    • I think the 6-team restriction is to include many new things (lacrosse, flag football, etc...) in the olympics. IOC would not want to expand the total number of players by having too much team in here.
