I agree with Garry Kasparov here, the shot has been taken, the ball is out. It is not a clear and obvious error for VAR to intervene. The referee on field didn’t blow his whistle & it should have stayed that way.

I think everyone agrees, including England fans, that it's not a penalty. But under the current rules it has to be given, not only has Dumfries not made contact with the ball when he made his challenge but he made contact with Kane's foot with his studs up. If that's anywhere else on the pitch it's given as a free kick, so really it should be no different here. It terms of VAR getting involved, it seems in almost all cases if the attacking team shouts loud enough they'll look at it.

Yeah, the rule is silly, but last few years this has been a penalty in different cases.

Even Gary Neville :ENG said there was no way this was a penalty, that says quite a lot. Although not sure this was the worst decision, there was also the free kick at the end of the match, where an English player (Stones? Not sure) pulled Aké down.....and got a free kick for doing so (followed by a yellow for Van Dijk who protested that decision, as he as captain should be allowed to do, the whole point is that captains can go to the referee instead of just everyone).

Not to mention several moments where an English player went down, grabbing his face or something, despite nothing really being hit (definitely not the face).

Oh well, the main problem was of course still that the team simply wasn't good enough and wasted the few chances they had. Like a very promising attack ending because a simple pass goes in between Simons and Dumfries and an Englishman picks it up
