Sensational time for Emma Hinze in the 500m time trial qualifiers at the European track cycling championships. Last time anyone posted a sub-33 in a WCh final was in 2016 (Voinova 32,9) and she just threw down a 32,732 seconds. Far ahead of the rest, obviously.

Wow, this mini track is really bad for sprint racing...

Curious how European Championships in track cycling no longer get their thread.

It definitely favours riders with endurance, rather than short burst speed.

Surely the UCI will be changing the rules after this. This mini track is savage.

Might be worth noting here that the velodrome at the UCI World Cycling Centre in Aigle (SUI) is 200m.

I haven’t watched any of the track cycling yet, so I don’t how the track in Munich behaves. I just thought it was a factoid worth sharing in this instance.

We just had three massive crashes in the first few laps of an elimination race. Track damaged, race suspended until further notice.

The GB male sprinters have been quite successful today but they're really hating the track in their interviews.

really bad, horrific crash by :ITA Letizia Paternoster in the women's elimination race...carried out on a stretcher, hope the damages are limited (but it didn't look good at all)...:fingers:

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
