Men's Bandy FIB Division A World Championship 2019

Recommended Posts

  • 2 weeks later...

On Monday Men's World Championships in the Division B will start.

Both Divisions A and B will play in :SWE.

2019 tournaments are record for the number of participating teams.

This year there are 20 nations in total in both divisions.

Unfortunately in 2019 :MGL will not participate. But :CAN:LAT and :CZE are back! And more of that :GBR and :SUI are going to play first time in the history of Men's Bandy World Championsips! :cheer:

For the news about Great Britain and Switzerland there is a story about 1913 European Bandy Championships, which was played in Davos and England won it. But according to this it looks like 1913 Eurobandy :) is just a fake and the tournament was never held.

12 teams in the Division B will play in Vänersborg and Trollhättan.

Group A: :HUN:EST:UKR:CAN:CZE:SUI.

Group B: :JPN:CHN:SVK:SOM:LAT:GBR.

Two teams from each group are going to the semifinals. The winner of the play-off can play in Div A next year.

8 teams in the Division A will play in Vänersborg. But besides one game will be in Borås, one game will be in Surte, and two games will be in Trollhättan. The tournament starts next Saturday.

Group A: :RUS:SWE:FIN:KAZ.

Group B: :NOR:USA:GER:NED.

The play-off system are the same like in women's ice hockey. The worst team relegates to the Div B.

Great Britain won their first ever game in the World Championships vs. Latvia 5:0.
Switzerland lost its first ever game 1:4 to Czech Republic.

Somalia scored first time at the WCHs since 2017. They couldn't score during 8 games. But anyway Slovakia won 8:1.

Some of the results from the 1913 European Championships

The big question is whether it was bandy or ice hockey they were playing.

:hyper:Great Britain is really strong and won its first 3 games with the score 30:0 in total.
And they have big chances to go to the semis from Group B with Japan.

Switzerland lost  3 games. But in the game vs. Ukraine the score was only 0:2. Except Swiss in Group A all teams still have chances to go to the semis.

:EST:GBR:JPN qualified to the tomorrow's semis and :HUN have very big chances to be in the play off too.

Slovakia is the first team which scored in the game vs. Great Britain but it didn't help. Japan still have 0 in its "goal against" but they score much less.

How many goals do you think Russia or Sweden would score against Estonia, Great Britain or Japan? More than 30?

In the 90 minutes game more than 30 - it can be, but big teams don't always have enough motivation to score so much. I'd say 20-25.

Sometimes 30 can be when small team try to score as many as they can vs. big and don't care too much how many they missed.

:EST 9:3 :GBR

Next year Estonia first time will play with the best . The team still never played at the World Championships versus one of the five nations (RUS, SWE, FIN, KAZ, NOR) which was in top-3 at the Worlds at least once.
Great Britain played perfect and won all their games during its first World Championships before the final.

Switzerland did their first win at the World Championships vs. Somalia 9:0!
The story behind Somalia is really good. But the results... Somalia played at 6 World championships and lost every game. Only twice they scored more than one goal and one time they lost 0:2. Most times Somalia can't score and misses a lot.

Final standings in the Division B
1. :EST

2. :GBR

3. :HUN

4. :JPN

5. :LAT

6. :CAN

7. :CZE

8. :SVK

9. :UKR

10. :CHN

11. :SUI

12. :SOM

Big guys will start tomorrow.

    • Juniors were there recently and the track was awful   Although that's not necessarily bad. Tracks don't all need to be fast, a slow track (like the horribly slow one in Poland) simply favors a different style of athletes. Training a lot there doesn't really give much extra advantage though, not like in sliding sports where of course as host country you make sure your athletes know every single meter a year before the Olympics.    And to get back on topic: speed skater Elisa Dul broke her tibia and fibula in a training fall yesterday and will obviously be out of the OQT and so the Olympics.
    • The PSL race in Davos was (yet another) insult to a beautiful discipline. The red course (which was actually yellow) had several holes and an exposed ice sheet, which made the athletes slide way too long, causing DNFs or massive time losses. The only positive note is that Caffont won despite racing on the more dangerous course in the final
