Skateboarding WS Street World Championships 2018

I've always been of the opinion that if you are good enough then you are old enough.

Of course, young athletes do have issues when it comes to traveling. For example, many nations have child trafficking laws which prevent them from traveling without their parents.

Nope, no age limit in skateboarding

but it would be highly recommandable to have some reasonable age limits...

men are men and children are children...it's just unacceptable to have them competing in the same events...

imho, no sub-16 people should even think to go to the Olympic Games...

Thats one of the possible obstacles.

I am more conservative. Its akward to see her competing against some 30 years old opponent. Sport isnt just physical fitness, she must be mentally competent to cope with, say, loss or other factors that dont suit her fragile age. Mental development is something that cant be 'jumped'. I am not so sure that competing against so much older skateboarders will do her any good in case of loss or anything bad but ok,her parents, federation and IOC should know better...

oh...p.s. not to mention the fact that skateboarding is an "artistic activity" and not a sport...therefore it shouldn't even be part of the Olympic program...:pope::p

Yes. And we will have a breakdancing. In few years OG will resemble those World Fairs from first few editions. Little sport and plenty other activities. :(

They had to qualify in order to compete at the Olympics so there was obviously some stress involved just to be there.

True but qualifications are in many sports easier part. Of course that stress is present but Games are some other dimension. I understand you completely but she is just, in my opinion, too young. Like phelps said, anyone bellow 16 shouldnt compete. They have YOF,cadet, junior competitions.

    • Kudos to you bud, I don't think anyone was happy with the performance by Canada all tournament, but we all stayed on until the end. Take as much time as you need.
    • As new sports I would add cyclocross with the condition it needs to be contested on snow. I would add ice climbing in speed and lead events. I would add freeride ski and snowboard. For new events I would add team sprint events in speed skating, women's Nordic combined, mixed team ski cross, mixed team parallel giant slalom, women's team ski jumping and add longer distance ski mountaineering events.    If there was room on the schedule I would also expand curling to 12 teams in each event.   In total I would add around 20 events for a total of 136 events. Cyclocross-3 Ice climbing-4 Freeride-4 Speed skating-2 Ski jumping-1 Nordic combined-2 Mixed team ski cross-1 Mixed team parallel giant slalom-1 Ski mountaineering-2
    • Hey everyone , now that the Olympics are over just wanted to make an announcement that I'll be taking a break from posting on Totallympics for the most part, and watching sports. Mentally these games have broke me in so many ways, and I need time to reset. Not sure for how long, at least a week, but I'll be back for the Paralympics.   I thought taking time to reflect over the past week and a half, it would make Grondin's silver feel better, it didn't at all. I still think about it all the time and it hurts. Just upset, frustrated, and disappointed that he was a photo finish away from gold... again, and I'd trade half of our medals for the colour to be changed.    Not to mention Canada only won 21 medals, 5-7-9, which is our lowest total since Salt Lake City 2002 with less events, but whatever I got used to it half a week ago...
    • Otherwise the tournament has been excellent in ice hockey, and overall too. 😊
    • Overtime being 3-on-3 is such a bad rule, especially in a final.
    • NBC had a lovely special after the ceremony...even highlighted some non-USA athletes.  Perhaps a few Americans will know Klaebo's name now!  There was even a segment highlighting the Italian medallists, that this was a record year for them, too.   (Best of Milan Cortina, on Peacock, if you can access it.)
