that's a terrible news for Iran, now they can't look at the list and see where is Israel to "not participate" that was their policy since Paris Grand Slam. (for example Iran only sent one competitor to Croatia last week because Israel had nobody in that specific weight) so I guess from now we will only see Iranian judokas at the World Championships

Teddy Riner won by a waza the quarterfinals against :RUS Tasoev. Riner is currently at 150 match won in a raw :cheer:

and now it's 151, since he won his semifinal match against the recently crowned World Champion, :CZE Lukas Krpalek...:yikes:

in the Gold Medal match he's going to face local hero :BRA David Moura, who beat :BRA Rafael Silva in an all-Brazilian affair in the other semifinal match...

p.s. for those who are interested, as usual, the entire tournament is available on Youtube...

here are tonight's finals (just started as I write this post)...

Grand Slam (Brasilia, BRA)

Day #3 Recap

:FRA Teddy Riner's comeback was the absolute highlight of the 3rd and final day of the Brasilia Grand Slam tournament...

and he put on quite a show, destroying all of his opponents, starting with a Japanese guy (OK, not their best representative, but still...), following with a very tough Russian as Inal Tasoev and in the semifinal the newly crowned World Champion, Lukas Krpalek...

then, in the final he had to face :BRA local hero David Moura...and it only took 20 seconds to the great Teddy to send the Brazilian with his back to the mat for an astonishing ippon...:yikes:

he came back in Montreal in July and dominated the field (as usual)...then this week he destroyed the man who now walks around with the world champion's crown (and anybody else who was on his route to success)...

tbh, I'm starting thinking what the hell the French Federation was doing when they decided to leave him out of their World Championship's team? I don't think it was really a question of injuries and/or poor training as they said...there must be a lot more behind that very strange decision...:mumble:

by the way, :BRA Brazil won 1 more Gold Medal also on the last day of the tournament thanks to Beatriz Sousa (women's +78kg), which elevated their total to 4 Gold Medals, number that obviously gave them the top of the Medal Table at the end of the Tournament...

Yesterday's remaining Gold Medals, instead, went to :CUB Cuba (Kaliema Antomarchi, women's -78kg), :ESP Spain (Nikoloz Sherazadishvili, men's -90kg) and :JPN Japan (Kentaro Iida, men's -100kg), which means that in the Final Medal Table, following the dominating :BRA Home Nation, we have :JPN Japan with 2 Gold Medals and a bunch of Nations (8) with 1 Gold Medal each (:COL Colombia, :CUB Cuba, :FRA France, :GBR Great Britain, :ITA Italy, :POR Portugal, :RUS Russia and :ESP Spain)...

    • Ben Hebert: "... We have a hockey mentality on our curling team, we’re not going to be bullied and pushed over by a bunch of Swedish guys out there that are getting their a**es handed to them." “We didn’t have any of that, we finished at the top of the podium with the gold and they finished dead last, so I think that says a lot.” Hebert is long known in curling media circles for not being afraid to speak his mind, and he didn’t let up in his ire when it came to the genesis of the entire situation -- Eriksson. “That snake in the grass,” Hebert said. “The stuff he tried to pull at the Olympics is not very Olympia of him… I lost a lot of respect for him with the stuff he tried to pull. He’s won the Olympics, they’ve won Grand Slams, they’ve won World Championships, and when they were at the high of their peak, you never saw that stuff from him. These last two or three years, they’ve been on a brutal stretch and pretty irrelevant in the curling world, haven’t won anything, they’re out of the Grand Slams, dead last in the Olympics puts a stamp on that.."
