But Mongolia was/is not competing in the OECH :p

38 countries expects in the alpine skiing. There are no full list but it can includes :MGL:LBN:NEP:AFG.

 

In general expects 58-60 countries. :AFG and :CRO participation were under question.

:NEP:PHI:UAE have to start first time at the Winter Universiades.

It was in the news at the official website in the Russian language.

 

Now there is a news about cross-country skiing and ski-orienteering.

 

27 countries will participate in the cross-country. The biggest teams are :RUS (16 athletes), :USA (15), :KAZ (13), :CAN (12). :AUT:BLR:GER:ITA:ESP:CHN:KOR:MGL:NOR:POL:SRB:SVK:SLO:THA:TUR:FIN:FRA:CZE:SUI:JPN will start too. And :ARM:AUS:EST represents with only 1 athlete. The competitor from Australia is Katerina Paul, which was 3rd in the qualifying race at the Seefeld WCHs some days ago.

 

 

21 countries in the ski-orienteering. The biggest teams are :RUS (16 athletes), :NOR (12), :EST (11),  :KAZ (11), :FIN (9), :CZE (9). :AUT:ITA:KGZ:LTU:MGL:ROU:SLO:SUI:SWE:JPN will start too. And :BLR:BUL:HUN:POL:SVK represents with only 1 athlete. Two athletes from Romania will be the only representatives of their country at the Universiade.

Some big names which will start in the figure skating include :RUS Alexander Samarin, :ITA Matteo Rizzo, :JPN Mai Mihara, :KAZ Elizabet Tursynbaeva.

 

:RUS Dmitry Loginov and :RUS Natalia Soboleva will participate in the snowboard and :RUS Maxim Burov in the freestyle.

Yeah the games seem to be drawing some good athletes this year. I can’t wait to watch them.

    • Yes, but Geiger and Wellinger have both achieved some success in major events, while Paschke hasn't. Geiger certainly has a better chance in Cortina than Paschke at now, but it has to be the his decision to withdraw and give a chance to his team- mate. Otherwise, it wouldn't be fair to him. I don't think Horngacher will force him to withdraw.
    • Alcaraz completes CGS in four sets over Djokovic!
    • Promoting bad swimmers AND better shooters over better runners (overall less favorable for endurance value) which I think is supposed to help attract new athletes - endurance is usually the biggest turn-off.
