Truly terrible match for us, this was embarrassing at home, in Budapest. Just like in the semi-final against Greece in Tokyo, the entire team simply capitulated, many errors from everyone. I don't understand what's going on with this Hungarian team, they are throwing away important matches.

(And just for the record, Italy was leading by 4 goals before the final two minutes, the final result isn't ugly because they pretty much let us score goals when it was already over)

With Serbia and Hungary out, we are the only medalists from last year's Olympics that advanced to the semifinals. It's a big opportunity for us...

Our senior men's team has won 13 medals across all competitions (including Olympics and World Championships, World League etc), but never a gold (not even in Mediterranean Games).

Our goalkeeper got injured today and had to be replaced in the second period, I hope he will be okay to play the rest of the tournament because his replacement is not as good and it shows...

Zerdevas is officially out for the rest of the tournament. Sadly I think that totally ruins our chances to win gold. At this point I'll be happy with a bronze...

and it's Italy vs Spain once again, just like 3 years ago...

Spain have been really impressive so far, they already beat Italy in the group stage and dominated all of their opponents in the knockout phase, givin'up very few goals (the only team scoring 10+ goals against them is Italy)...

Italy have shown great personality so far and they've been capable of adapting very well to different kind of tactics used by our opponents in the previous matches...

since it's not the Olympics, I think we have a chance to repeat ourselves and go back-to-back...

we'll see on Sunday afternoon...:fingers:

So we lost 11-10 to Italy in the semifinals

I hate to say it but I was right. We needed Zerdevas. Tzortzatos simply isn't good enough, and some of the goals he conceded surely would've been stopped by Zerdevas. There is a reason that Tzortzatos is 30 yo and only now is getting called up to the national team for the first time ever...

Bronze for our boys! In the end it's a good result so I can't complain. Only the third time we won a medal at the World Championships (we also won bronze in 2005 and 2015).

I think we would be playing for the gold tonight if Zerdevas wasn't injured, but hopefully he will be okay for the European Championships next month.

    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).

    • In terms of total medals, yes. In terms of golds, I’d be fine with anywhere from 6-8.   @intoronto you don’t think we’ll do better or at least the same? Bit surprising.
    • Tadeucci was very good and took bronze
    • On the Olympics I don't like to count golds to analyse the performance, I think the best data are the top8 and medals. In both fields I expect a big improvement (obviously not on the 'pure' number, but on the percentage of medal or top8 events)
    • December is probably going to be focused on either Italy/Austria or Norway, but the plans are still being made as we speak. Renting a car, driving from the Netherlands down to Italy, finding accomodations and help with preparing the skis and all that...trying to make it as an independent 'solo' athlete is...hard     I can't go and help out, because we got the keys to our house (finally) and there's lots of work to be done there, so it's all happening at the same time and the mind is getting crazy (for both of us)
