And France beat Australia 46-7... this has to be one of the biggest margin of defeat in the history, right?

My favourite Volleyball position: LIBERO. You ask why? Look here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyIOarNAONk

This is the 6th biggest margin in world championship history. Actually in top 7 largest defeats, Australia suffered 6 of them:lol: (and Thailand once). See below:

Hungary      57–9     Australia           2005
Sweden     66–21     Australia          2009
Austria     52–11     Thailand            2009
Russia     48–8     Australia              2009
Angola     47–8     Australia              2005
France     46–7     Australia              2019
Netherlands  53–15  Australia          2011

There never was a handball match when a team failed to score a goal (at any level)?

I've searched few minutes ago but I didn't found anything about this. I guess it never happened that one team to not score at least 1 goal. Australia seems to be very close to this negative record in each world championship:lol:

There is a realistic chance :ANG will go through to the next round:

  • :NED still has to play against :SRB and :NOR . With the way the Dutch have been playing so far, I expect two losses, resulting in a total of 4 points for the Dutch team.
  • :SLO still has to play :CUB and :SRB. :SLO will win against :CUB, but :SRB should be too strong. In that case Slovenia will also end up with a total of 4 points.
  • :ANG plays against :CUB and :NOR In case they win against :CUB and lose against :NOR Angola will also finish the group stage with 4 points.

:ANG has the best head to head against :SLO and :NED and will finish in 3rd in that case.

Once, as far as I know that was the first and still only time: at the 2014 Asian Games, the Japanese women beat the poor Maldives team 79-0. Japan had 82 attempts, so only missed three (which were in fact missed and not stopped by the Maldives goalkeeper, since 79 shots were shots on goal). Maldives surprisingly had 30 attempts, 22 of which were shots on goal, but all of them were blocked by the goalie.

    • For the summary and lowlights of Thailand's preparation in hosting the ongoing Sea Games, I kindly suggest those who are interested to read from this English language article from Thai media outlet, Thai Enquirer: https://www.thaienquirer.com/63469/thailands-sea-games-2025-under-fire-budget-management-and-technical-controversies/
    • It's all hogwash especially in the short attention span generation. Like nobody cares about Free Tibet anymore either. Free Palestine will last a lot longer due to Saudi Arabia becoming a sponsorship force in sports.   Israel is too weak in soccer to qualify from UEFA zone. The only time they qualified was from the Asian zone and they only beat Australia & New Zealand who were complete nobodies in the 1960s. No such luck in the 60 years since.
    • Oh I assure you FIFA dodger a bullet with Israel not qualifying…   But ya that’s kind of the thing, shut up and dribble is a mantra anti LGBT people have used often. I don’t think it’s hypocritical to remind them of their position
    • Ah, yes but that's not how pro athletes are taught in North America these days? Shut up & dribble is xenophobic, racist or whatever? The hypocrisy of some of these policies were exposed during 2022 World Cup already where the Saudis played it smart and waved their own "Free Palestine' slogans. Forget LGBT rights for a moment, how many 'Free Palestine' flags will be waved in 2026? Or will those be confiscated by default? Somehow I feel this won't be met with similar backlash when China clamped down on 'Free Tibet' in 2008 OG. Saudi Arabia is more important to global markets than Iran & Egypt
    • Wisła Płock just assumed 1st position after five consecutive draws. Must be first time ever a team on a five match winless streak actually moves up to league top.
    • Well ya, which is why the Egyptian and Iranian teams can shut up and dribble :P
    • The problem is, the World Cup is not a local event. Overall it's another storm in a teacup. LGBT rights in Muslim countries won't change a damn inch becuse of one soccer match in Seattle
    • After looking at the entry list of athletes in the official website, I've changed some of my predictions in the Olympic events with these changes:   Total Tally: Thailand 87, Singapore 51, Vietnam 48, Indonesia 33, Philippines 24, Malaysia 22, Cambodia 1     Badminton (5): Malaysia 2, Thailand 1, Singapore 1, Indonesia 1   Men’s Singles: Switched from Thailand to Singapore     Boxing (11): Thailand 8, Philippines 2, Vietnam 1   Men: -54 kg (-55 kg): Thailand, -60 kg: Thailand, -63.5 kg (-65 kg): Thailand, -69 kg (-70 kg): Thailand, -80 kg: Philippines   Women: -50 kg (-51 kg): Thailand, -54 kg: Thailand, -57 kg: Thailand, -60 kg: Vietnam, -66 kg (-65 kg): Thailand, -70 kg: Philippines     Sailing (7): Thailand 4, Singapore 2, Malaysia 1   ICLA 6: Switched from Thailand to Malaysia     Taekwondo (8): Thailand 6, Vietnam 2   -67 kg: Switched from  Vietnam to Thailand     Weightlifting (5): Thailand 2, Philippines 1, Indonesia 1, Malaysia 1   Men: -65 kg: Malaysia, -94 kg (-95 kg): Thailand   Women: -53 kg: Thailand, -69 kg: Philippines, -77 kg: Indonesia   * I saw that they have actually change the weight categories to almost match that of IWF newly introduced categories from several months ago.      Wrestling (12): Vietnam 7, Philippines 3, Indonesia 2   Men's Freestyle: -57 kg: Philippines, -65 kg: Vietnam, -74 kg: Vietnam, -86 kg: Philippines Men's Greco-Roman: -67 kg: Indonesia, -77 kg: Vietnam, -87 kg: Indonesia, -97 kg: Vietnam Women's Freestyle: -50 kg: Vietnam, -53 kg: Vietnam, -57 kg: Vietnam, -62 kg: Philippines
    • Many permutations possible in the last game, going to be a nail-biter!  v  is the live game on the Olympic Channel later today.   2025 WCF Curling Olympic Qualification Event – Kelowna, Canada   Team   Wins   Losses   Men       CHN 6   0     P USA 5   1     P JPN 4   2     NED 3   3     PHI 3   3     KOR 2   4     NZL 1   5     POL 0   6
    • This is absolutely ridiculous. If you aren’t willing to celebrate Pride then you should simply not come to Seattle. You have to respect local customs.   https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c208392884jo
