Recap

From the beginning it was clear we will see a race of two different halftimes, after the first SVK was leading the race with 20 seconds advantage, after the second one it was 14th place with more than 4 minutes behind the winning Italy.

Our coaches tried the same compsition of the successful 5th PyeongChang Olympic relay (Paja/Nastya/Poliaková/Ivona)

Paja started the relay and presented us again one sublime performance, a real "need for speed" race overpassing a tons of opponents during her leg because of our bad starting position with BIB 20.  Second fastest time of her leg and good shooting pointed our relay to 3rd place only 3 seconds behind the leader.

Nastya had another of her great days today, she competed at her pace and with very good shooting (only that ONCE AGAIN last target) had no oppponent in her leg today able to put her under any pressure. Our relay was leading the race with more than 20 second advantage after her leg.

Poliaková...well, Poliaková. Total disaster on skis, and even bigger disaster on the range, supposed to be her only strong weapon today. Peoples maybe ask why our staff does not call someone else to replace her, well, the problem is that the gap within our A team and Poliaková is obvious, too big,  but the gap behind Poliaková and any other eventual girls is even bigger. we just have not anyone able to replace her, the results of our juniors in the youth categories for example are far to be encouraging... Terezia started as leader of the race but threw away her 20 seconds lead already in the first lap, and when we include her tragic shooting today, our relay dropped out of the top 10.

Ivona tried to return our team to top 10 but as the whole season so far, she is fightin whith the same issue, 2 different hafs in her races, good start and terrible standing shooting, same happened today, 3/8 in the last shooting does not need any further comment. in the last lap she stayed completely alone and crossed the line in tears at 14th place more than 4 minutes behind.

Now the worrying thing is that this was one of the last relays in this composition, after this season Nastya will retire...and this will be a hard return to the dark times..

before that maybe only 1 relay will be to see for this team and it´s gonna be the last race at the world champs, since Ivona will not travel to Canmore world cup stage.

    • There is a saying to never trust a Russian in gymnastics. Well, ex-Russian turned Bulgarian Elvira Krasnobaeva is transferring now to Armenia.   The "official" reason is for personal, family matters, but in reality it's most likely because she wasn't selected for Paris, which angered her parents. Even though she is only 16, had her breakthrough just this year and started making mistakes, when they amped up the difficulty.   Our Federation's President Iliana Raeva said today, that she received calls also from France and Azerbaijan about Elvira's mother basically auctioning her. Raeva mentioned, that Krasnobaeva was going to be a vocal point in the next Olympic cycle, but now she can hit the road and missed her chance to ever compete for Bulgaria, even if she wanted to in the future.    We are also going to make a new Group from next season. After the disappointment in Paris, 4 out of the 5 girls announced their retirement.
    • true, but was expecting India to get troubles from Australia, not from New Zealand, and specially not by being bowled out. Makes the group phase interesting though
    • The 4th best team in the world beating the 3rd best team in the world is not a huge surprise though.
    • I’ve been recently introduced by some friends to cricket (or the t20 version of it, at least) and actually liked it so I’m following the World Cup that’s happening during this month

    • Tried to open a new topic for the Women's World Cup like the one for Men's but i guess the common thread will have to do it for the girls ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anyway, some interesting matches on this first four days i would say, especially the defeat of India agains New Zealand.
