so no 7th olympics in a row for Hilgertová:( but Kudějová is a quite good medal chance, so good choice for CZE

Question..... during the olympic trials USA had a K1 Women competition, Why? they didnt win the quota at world championships, or pan am's, and the only competition left is giving a european quota, so what did i miss?

well, I do not know anything about USA winning a quota in womens K1 even ICF still did not announced, as expected, nothing.. but I think it´s only a national trials for nominations into the national team for the season 2016.

Usually many nations has this system of trials each year (Slovakia too) there 2-3 races in which the athletes won points and the best 3 are nominated in the National team for the whole season, they will start in world cups races, continental champs, world champs etc... so I assume USA canoe/Kayak merged both trials (for OG and for NT) in the same race.

but that´s only what I´m thinking. not 100% sure. but thats the way how the different teams select the racers. and assuming USA has not quota in W K1 I think it´s the reason.

Technically the unused quota from Canada in the women’s K1 would go to the US, but then the US would have had to decide between its women’s K1 and men’s C2 since a nation can only qualify two athlete quotas from the continental qualifiers.

Is it possible for the US to use their C1 winner and add him to the C2 boat? What would happen to the missing athlete quota, will it go to the C1? I hate that ICF gives the public no information. The are by far the worst sport at this, especially considering that they have such a complicated qualification system in the sprint.

I'm not expert of canoening (i know only a bit of italian athletes) but I think that we have a small chance to win a quota in C1

    • How wonderful!   I met the national rowing (and beach rowing) coach of EST/LTU/LAT on the way to ice hockey one day, who's Canadian by the way. I also flew home on the same flight as JC Schoonmaker's mom and friends, so we chatted for a bit.
    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
