Alexanne LePage swam 1:07.60 in the 100m breast semis today. Had an entry time of 1:09.66. Bodes well for the future of sprint breaststroke!

Between this and Sophie Angus, Canada might have finally filled their breaststroke role in the relays.  Unfortunately it comes at a time where they are falling behind in the other strokes.

Yup. No clear successor to Masse/Wilm or MacNeil

And unless Oleksiak comes back strong, the sprint freestyle has suddenly dried up, too.  Still think they'll compete for a medal in the women's medley in Paris, and maybe even the mixed medley if they decide to go for it.  The latter is much harder, though.  Putting Angus/LePage on the breaststroke will improve the team, but replacing McNeil with Liendo won't really move the dial.  Not sure if it'd be enough.

The other good news is, reviewing the times from Fukuoka, Gaziev did great in the relays on the freestyle.  After two strong finishes in the men's freestyle relays in Tokyo and Fukuoka, they're just lacking one more 47-second guy to really challenge for a medal.

Yeah, during the 2016-20 period, most of our young talent was in the 100/200m distances. Now during this period, it seems like most of our young talent is now in the 200/400m distances which is still great but doesn't bode as well for the sprint relays. But as we saw with Lepage, talent can emerge from out of nowhere very quickly so hopefully we can find some new sprint talent soon

Notably another National age group records from Wigginton in the 400 IM. 4:12.81. Now just 0.31 from the OQT.

Also nice to see Jansen bounce back after a rough double yesterday.

Another gold for Lepage! 2:24.70 to win the 200m breaststroke. Will be interesting to see what she splits in the medley relay later.

    • Tentoglou won the men's long jump with 8.22. He only had two valid jumps today.   Another U20NR came in the women's shot put from Maria Rafailidou. She had 16.53 earlier this week and now got 16.59. She's second in the world for U20 this year    So of course Karalis was the big star of our nationals this year, more than Tentoglou, but we also had a lot of teenagers show good signs for the future (Antonatou, Alivizatos, Mitropoulou, Iakovaki, Rafailidou etc).   Antonatou and Alivizatos are both from Kefalonia island. Antonatou's brother is a shot putter who is 19 yo and had a new PB yesterday of 17.92 in the NCAA. I don't remember us ever having any strong athletes from Kefalonia in any sport aside from the late Anna Pollatou who won an Olympic bronze in rhythmic gymnastics. What are they feeding these kids on this island (it only has about 35.000 residents)?! Very impressive.
