The team event is super exciting though, just like the Mixed 4x400m relay.

Another TV bullshit, city events with 20 secs. courses. Thanks, I'll pass, It's bad enough Olympic downhill tracks are flat as hell because they award the WOG to some non-traditional venues. I miss the Lillehammer atmosphere with real fans, real courses and Olympic spirit.

That's it. And if it works well I would be totally behind it. But this one is just pointless... we already have a men's and women's 4x400m... adding a mixed event in the same distance adds nothing new. If you are going to add it then you have to remove the two specific gender events to make it have some sense, but that would be worse :d

I feel like "politically correct" is just a term to be thrown at anything people don't like.  What is "politically correct" about the mixed relay?  I guess you'd have to define "politically correct" to begin with.  To me, politically correct would mean including a women's version of an event even if there's not enough competitors.  It would mean including competitors from every continent even though they are not the best in the world (something that is already done).  I don't see how a mixed relay is politically correct.

Except that it isn't. Everyone has already figured out the most beneficial order M-W-W-M (except Japan).

Good in both genders? It's just rich getting richer again.

That might be the current strategy, but sometimes, as Nike says, you have to risk everything to achieve greatness. There are so, so many events where the rich get richer. I really don’t see a problem with this one.

And generally performs very well at the Jeux De La Francophonie...

I wouldn't say that, I think not even in the athletics. Very well would mean top 5 - top 10 in the medals table, I'm not sure about results but I don't think we're there.

That be like saying the only good part of the Tour De France is the time trials...

The 50km is monster. Only athletes with the best fitness and best strategy can win. It’s a true test of Skiing ability.

What strategy? It's 49 km of hanging back in the pack and 1 km sprint. That's all. I'm sorry but you really haven't watched any 50km time trial events in your life?

50km ain't a monster tbh. Have you heard of the Vasaloppet for instance?

Right, but when 3/4ths of the world can only ever watch a sport on TV, you have to innovate.

It's down to money. China can buy every God damn Olympics if they want to and were allowed to. Hell, Doha would host WOG if they could ship snow to the Gulf!

I can't possibly wait how horrible the Olympic downhill course will be in Beijing.

    • There were lots of good moments , this olympics felt so special (I am talking of WOG). The last time I really enjoyed viewing WOG was in Sochi & this tops it. So many feel good moments, very well attended event with spectators filling up stands & making an atmosphere. So many top performances, but for me the  women team dominating the Biathlon event was really special. All 3 of them were just so good & gave top performance. I love it how the female commentator pronounced  Lou Jeanmonnot  & finally grazie mille  we loved it! Thanks for making me fall in love with winter sports again
    • I'm surprised that some Hungarians here are interested in some Nazis in Kiev, instead of their country's economic decline over the last 15-20 years, falling under Romania's level of GDP, when around 2000 it was the richest country in the all former post-communist region. But I understand that this is Orban's tactic to continue ruling and stealing the country, to distract from truly important matters and focus on trivial matters. Clinton's campaign slogan in the USA many years ago: "The economy, stupid!" I think that the current opposition leader in HUN should probably do the same- just do your thing and let Orban himself with all of this Soros, Nazis, etc, only the Martians are still missing in this madness, but that may come to pass
    • I found Condor really nice. I did upgrade myself, so maybe thats why. I would fly them again
    • So, wanted to update on this now that I’m back home in Seattle to say I had a really good time in Milan. I ended up not going to events outside of Milan (I went to short track, speed skating and hockey), and it was probably a good decision to keep things simple for my first Olympics.   Getting around in Milan was a breeze, and I feel things were pretty well organized at the venues (though the ice hockey venue definitively could have used a couple more weeks of work). I was especially pleased with the speed skating venue, given it’s a temporary track it looked really good once you were actually in your seat and things were well organized for spectators (even though it was a looooong walk to and from the train station).   So ya, happy with the experience, as a newbie to both attending the Olympics and traveling in Europe. Def made me want to attend the French Alps in 2030 (and subject them to my horrible-for-a-native French accent xD )   Thanks to  for being good hosts.   As an aside, I now understand why people dislike British Airways, and Condor was surprisingly okay, though it was definitively a "you get what you paid for" situation (flew SEA-LHR to get to Europe and FRA-SEA on the way back).
