I’m hoping today’s POL vs ISR will go on without any ant-Israeli actions in the stands… would be awful if anything happens

Italy won and are qualified, this is the only good thing of the match .....

Unfortunately, France is still realistic options for us in the Round of 16 and that would be a nightmare for us... Slovenia with Doncic will also be dangerous, but of course, they're in a much weaker team actually, than France. We have to root for Spain vs Greece and beat Cyprus ourselves: then we will be at first place in the group and probably will play vs Israel in the Round of 16. It's definitely better to play Israel than France...

In my opinion, even reaching the quarterfinals won't be a great success. In the last four editions, we finished in the 5th-8th place. Another defeat in the quarterfinals will only confirm our solid performance, but nothing more. Our last European Championship medal was in 2003: bronze. It would be a dream to finally win a medal, but the competition is big and we're at a stage where, on paper, we don't have a medal-level team. The women's NT team managed to win a medal at the European Championships this summer after a 30-year waiting (1995-2025), so the men still have a few more editions to do the same.

Looking at our youth results and our current young roster+ Donte, we can definitely be among the top teams in Europe in a few years. Our young players need to play extensively in Italy and then travel to the NBA or the EuroLeague clubs: Milano, Bologna, or some other European clubs. Another problem for us is that we've never had a truly superstar in the NBA, because Gallinari, Belinelli, or Bargnani were by no means at the level of Nowitzki, Giannis, Jokic, or Doncic. Donte diVincenzo won't be a star either: he's more of a solid NBA player, that`s all . I was very disappointed with Banchero, as I was hoping he'd play for us, but judging by his behavior, he probably wouldn't have been motivated to play for Italy, enough even if the USA hadn't called him up.

No surprise last night as :FRA beat :POL for the 13th time in a row.

My sister & her husband attended the game. Also present were some Polish football NT players since we play Finland in World Cup quals on the weekend in nearby Chorzów.

    • Yuna Aoki was fantastic and defeats both Chiba and Nakai at 4 Continents.
    • Apparently now Uhlaender is appealing to the IOC to add another spot and give it to her    Good grief, it's a US selection issue ultimately, they qualified two, how they award them is up to them... but she doesn't like their answer, and knows she has no legal standing to go thru those channels or CAS, so goes right to the IOC looking for special treatment.

    • @hckošice Do you agree with me to some extent, or am I hopelessly dreaming?
    • Interesting forecasts, I like 'em! I think the US wins the most medals, but Norway tops the standings (most golds)... have Germany neck-and-neck with Norway for medals, but fewer gold.    Then have Canada and Italy fighting it out for 4th in 5th   Then have Sweden, Austrian, Japan, Netherlands and France rounding out the top ten, with them all within a medal or two of each other. Of course reality will differ significantly
    • A huge day for the very young Italian Bertini: despite a very tough draw, he beats Szilagy in the round of 16 and Gu in the quarterfinals! First career podium for him!
    • Time for more personal and detailed predictions:    will have it hard this time.   I'm trying to stay realistic about our chances. We're not going there as favorites in most events, and deep down I know it would be a big surprise if we suddenly overperformed or even dominated. Still, sports have a beautiful way of ignoring expectations.   We're never predicted to do amazingly well at either edition of the Olympics, so I’m desperately hoping for moments that will stay with everyone in the country for years, whether it's a final that keeps people glued to their screens or a performance that will make us proud. Just one medal could mean so much. It would bring real emotions and something to cheer for to a country that isn’t going through its best period right now. And on the rare occasion of a hockey miracle, celebrations in the streets wouldn't be an oddity.   It all comes down to four sports, the rest are out of reach:   Alpine Skiing is a big mystery, and it will all come down to Petra, whether she'll compete and eventually shock everyone with a heroic result. That's the best-case scenario. Biathlon can be the dark horse, you never know how things turn around. The women's relay is probably our biggest chance, but all four of them need to deliver great performances. As for Ice Hockey, our national sport, I'll always believe in another fairytale. I'll always believe we'll pull off a miracle. Since I wasn't alive yet when we won gold at the World Championships, I can only resort to watching old videos and imagine how amazing it must have been to watch as your country is the champion of the world in something. Best on the planet. Even the silver years later was amazing, but I was too young to actually remember it, so it's time for another hockey euphoria in the country. Ski Mountaineering is a bit overlooked in the media right now, but I believe we have a huge chance of winning a medal in one of the events. Our athletes aren't minnows.   We're a small country, still relatively young. There's not much we're known for in the world, but sports are a perfect way to build a national identity, to stop people from thinking you're still part of a state that ceased to exist decades ago. Doing well in sports is one of the few things these lesser-known countries can show off, not just the ones in Europe.   I'm desperately hoping for a medal, and we all want those two weeks of the Olympics to be amazing and full of unforgettable moments.
    • Never wanted a prediction to be more right
    • Two weeks before the Games officially begin, time to give my final predictions on the medal standings.     will beat  and win the medal table at the WOG for the first time in 100 years. All the (absurd) retirements of elite Norge athletes last season will have its consequences and they will drop to second.    will my bold pick to return to the top 3 after their horrendous Beijing performance, when it comes to Gold medals.     Germany will slip down and will have less than 9 golds for the first time in 50 years. Depending on how the chips fall in some sports, they could even be outside the top 5.   Home team of  will have their best Olympics in some, better than Torino, but it still won't be enough to get into the top 5.
