Doping Cases and Bans Thread (2016 & 2017)

Most of those who were tested positive are amongst the top athletes and they probably didn't even pay attention what pills they were taking... They're probably too lazy to check the list themselves and that's why they trust their doctors more than they should, lol.

That would make them even more extremely stupid :)

Especially the top athletes should pay attention and, as many top athletes say, "I read the ingredients of every single thing I eat, drink or take".

I don't think they're stupid or anything, they're just not taught to do that kinda things themselves, they've simply got no time for doing such things.

If most top athletes apparently check literally everything they take, then why is this group of (mostly) Russian athletes apparently too busy to take 5 minutes to check some ingredient on Google?

It's not like you need 2 hours per day to do that. Any athlete who has time to post a photo on social media for example has time to open Google and enter some medicine they take there.

And they are stupid too. Nothing will save them if even American manufacturers lie (there's a proven case here) & "forget" to include prohibited ingredients on the pack.

I think it's more likely that he (and the others) are lying and that they took it after 1 January..

I mean, there are also studies showing that meldonium is only detectable for a few days, certainly not for 2 months, so it's hard to believe these excuses :(

Actually most of them don't lie.

The info list in the pack says it eliminates from the body in a day or 2 (which is true if you take it for the 1st time).

According to French study if you take it for years it can stay in your body up to 4 months. It's not mentioned on the pack and our biathlon federation obtained those studyings AFTER Abramova case by contacting those scientists.

I googled meldonium in September but the longest term I could find was 10-14 days.

There is not and will not be such a thing as the clean sport. Ever. Deal with it.

They don't care or they didn't want to care. We do not know that just yet.

I agree with you. But the truth is, many of them simply don't care, which is bad as it gets, but that's the reality. In their heads that's 'just a pill', they can't be bothered to check which one is it.

What's more suspicious - these meds exist for 4 (!) decades but they were included to the prohibited list only now.

7 months before the Olympics :mumble: After certain lobbyist studying that it's popular among their competitors E. Europeans.

    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
