Who are Zhuk and Ryzakhova?

 

Ryzhykova is her married name. She won a medal at EC six years ago already so she hasn't come out of nowhere

 

Zhuk is still only 21yo. He barely missed a medal at the U23 EC in Bydgoszcz last year.

Incredibly stupid indeed, basically everyone with any real knowledge about athletics (ie coaches, athletes) who has said anything about this, said it's insane. Slightly understandable in an Olympic year (after all, you do want the best athletes to show up), bullcrap in a non-Olympic year.
