Sprint Canoeing Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024

I believe the IOC will allow tennis doubles teams of Russia and Belarus players at the Olympics, plus Russian and Belarus players are allowed to enter doubles teams into ATP and WTA tennis competitions, which are technically Olympic qualifiers. I don't see how this is any different. The Russia/Belarus ban is on team sports and not necessarily all team events within sports that include both individual and team competitions.

I am afraid the IOC will really do this.

But it is not a question of "team" it is a question of AINs - Individual Neutral Athletes. The IOC declared that AINs will participate in Paris. They do not represent their country or NOC, they are individuals, so there is no any legal ground for them to compete in pairs or doubles.

Just been in touch with a journalist friend who says the ITF expect tennis players from Russia and Belarus to compete in doubles in Paris

ICF: But they are individuals! They just so happen to be in the same boat at the same time going towards the same place.

:p

Yes, ITF uses argument, that they qualify individually. But ICF cannot use this argument.

is this accurate?

https://www.canoeicf.com/sites/default/files/paris_2024_csp_quota_allocation_as_of_07052024_v2.pdf

Kazakhstan won both MK1 and MK2 quotas which is not possible per rules and China despite already having 4 quotas in WK4, is winning 3 more in WK1 and WK2. (while each country can win max 6 quotas in WK)

6 quotas per gender and no limitaions how many boats can be qualified at the continental regatta

But you are right - quotas (but not boats) are limited - it looks like reallocations will follow.

The way the qualification document is written is that a nation automatically gets the K2/C2 quota while the K1/C1 gets reallocated, but here it looks like the nation can choose to decline the K2/C2 quota and receive the K1/C1. Regardless, quotas will need to be reallocated.

Also it looks like :SAM is to get the K1 1000m quota instead of :COK.

now that makes sense, so they are waiting for those countries (CHN, KAZ in Asia and USA in MK) to confirm one of those quotas and then they can reallocate the other one

so Singapore, Iran and Brazil will get a quota later most probably but that's not 100% confirmed yet.

Hungary, Serbia and Spain already have 5 quotas in Women's Kayak, they can only get 1 more quota. My question is, if, for example, Hungary is 1st and Spain 2nd, would Hungary's released quota go to Spain or would it be reassigned to K1?

    • It's an interesting question, Norway is certainly expanding their efforts into a number of new sports. So, that cannot help but to peal off a few more natural athletes. I know their training methods are kinda rocking the world in a number of summer endurance sports.  I can't really speak to they dynamics of their development program. Their men's nordic programs largely always seem to be ridiculously deep, overwhelmingly so the last decade or so.

    • But it seems to us that Norway wasn't as strong in Lillehammer 1994 as it was later? And not just in women's events. Generally, until 2000, Norway was much weaker in women's biathlon and women`s cross-country skiing. I remember in the 1990s, Italy's biggest rivals, Belmondo and di Centa, were Russia, when Norway somewhere further back and only in the classic style. Bente Martinsen- Skari, this is their first really strong girl in cross country, just about 2000, just like Liv Grete Skielbreid- Pioree in women`s biathlon at similar times.   Do you think, that is there any hope that thanks to the popularity of Haaland and football in general in Norway in recent years, winter sports such as biathlon or cross-country skiing will lose a little bit, becouse that?

    • This suggestion  @Dnl  made some months ago has also been implemented.   In each club, I have added a "Milano Cortina 2026 Qualification Tracker" record which takes the content from the Qualification by Nation tracker of that NOC.   People who see it can not edit the content, but it will be automatically updated once @Matej will update the record, and if you notice any mistake feel free to report it to Matej or in the record itself.   Club's admins can now edit the name of the section into their own language or change the spelling, I have used "Milano Cortina 2026 Qualification Tracker" for all the clubs. To do so, go inside the section, then click on "Manage Club"-"Edit this database Record" and change the name of the section:     By the way, if you are not a club's admin but you would like to edit things inside the club just let me know and I will give you the rights to do so. There can be more "admins" inside the club with the rights to edit and organize the sections, and that's not a role that require time or commitment.   Let's try to make all the clubs active during MiCo and when the LA28 qualifications will start!
