Nanna Skodborg Merrald is finally back (scoring 73 point something today).

The Danish dream would be for Merrald to become another Dufour... Would pretty much guarantee them team silver in Tokyo. At least.

Not beyond the realms of possibility. Very talented, if not hyped, rider.

There is something you don't see every day. British wife sabotaged her Danish husband's Olympic campaign.

British and Danish teams are currently in a dead-lock for team medals. Wink. Wink.

Am I missing something here or how is this not a massive knife in the back of her own husband? She basically puts her country above her own marriage?

It is certainly curious. Dahl already campaigned the horse at the 2019 Europeans and they were on a strong upwards trajectory, score-wise. At the very least, they could have been strong travelling reserves for the Olympics - something Denmark needs given their traditional lack of depth.

Dahl saying his wife made the decision is curious as well. Sounds like D-I-V-O-R-C-E may be coming.

It's weird even if she just wanted the horse for herself.

The anthem says "God Save the Queen" not "God Save my marriage"*, so...

*Don't look at HRH Duke of Edinburgh, he is an exemption.

By the way, just realizing this now, but how can someone with a minority share change the ownership ratios apparently without any sort of approval from the one with a majority share?

I assume because FEI-listed ownerships are often virtually tweaked for the Olympics. Real ownership is tracked somewhere else.

There are riders who ride for foreign owners/businesses. In order to make them eligible for the Olympics, the owners virtually give them some percent of ownership. But that's just on paper.

    • The Technical director of the Dutch Olympic Committee has, using his discretionary powers, decided to include them in the team. He cites “extra-ordinary circumstances”, but has not stated what they are. The use of these powers is quite rare. They were used in 2022 to nominate an alpine-skier.
