Yeah, if there not enough starters in the heats/qualifiers (in this case top30), everybody is assured to qualify for the semifinals, you just have to start in at least one of the heats, you even do not have to finish any of them, just start and pass at least 1 gate to be eligible to start in the semis in this case. Maybe this was the fishy purpose here, to qualify an athlete with writing her a DNF instead of DNS

You meant in the W K1. This was just a mistake/typo, she DNS in the semifinal. They just for some reason copy/pasted her DNF result from heats. Here is her eventual semifinal race screenshot, you can see that she did not compete in any gate

The heats are qualifying races for the semifinals. so a DNS in the heats automatically disqualify you from starting in the SF
