Last 4th Stage of the Euro Hockey Tour 2020/21 (the Czech Hockey Games in Prgaue) started today with winning also their 10th match of the tournament !!! today against in a 10 goals game 6-4. In the second match the host defeated 2-1 after being down 0-1 after the first period. The Czechs won all their exhibition matches before the World Champs so far. yeah, not going to be a NHL super stars feast this year for sure. May be one of the lowest level championship in a looong while. with the coronavirus pandemic strict measures, including quarantining players after their arrivals to Riga, no relegation fear, many teams will play in experimental rosters. As mentioned Slovakia will send the youngest team in our histroy, we may very well beat the absolute record with having 3 U18 players in the roster. Also from NHL we will have only 1 player this year and a kid who just debuted in the profileague in last weeks Studenič with New Jersey. I do believe almost all other teams are in the same.

Let have a first look also on roster. One of the top favorites did not officially announced its roster yet, but according several north american sources a couple of interesting names from NHL already confirmed their participation Goaltenders Darcy Kuemper and Adin Hill (both Arizona Coyotes), Defencers Colin Miller (Buffalo Sabres), Troy Stecher (Detroit Red Wings), Sean Walker (Los Angele Kings) or forwards Connor Brown, Nick Paul (both Ottawa Senators), Maxime Comtois, Adam Henrique (both Anaheim Ducks), Dillon Dubé , Andrew Mangapiane (both Calgary Flames), Brandon Hagel or Brandon Pirri (both Chicago Blackhawks). According to TSN also a couple of talented youngsters will fly to Riga like last year draft number 10 Cole Perfetti of Winnipeg Jets.

So 5 of the 7 SVK boats here qualified to the finals, sadly without any realistic chance to grab a quota.. Before the tournament I was pretty confident with Matej Rusnák in C1, but he hugely disappointed today, in other side I am really pleasantly surprised by our young girls especially Lisa Maria Gamsjäger debuting at senior international level today and she did pretty well, sadly not enough quotas remaining to qualify her for Tokyo, but considering what we saw today and what our coaches are talking about her, she may really do something in Paris with fully concentration and training, remember she restarted doing sport only last summer after almost 2 years without any sport activity

First 4 NHL reinforcement for confirmed 3 defenders Nikita Zadorov (Chicago), Artyom Zub (Ottawa), Vladislav Gavrikov (Columbus) and 1 forward Mikhail Grigorenko (Columbus) In other news Rene Fasel confirmed in an interview to TV RTS that the tournament will start without spectators in the stands, The preliminary Round will certainly be without fans in the arenas, but there still a chnace fans will be allowed for the 2nd phase from the Quarterfinals.

Finally also something positive for us here. the work with our M K4 squad clearly help Petrušová/Gamsjäger pair a lot. They are still young and I believe if they will continue to work hard like that together, they may absolutely aim for something in Paris in 3 years

How is is possible, are not only 34 players qualified for the singles ?

First names for team announced def Zac Jones and forwards Kevin Rooney & Colin Blackwell (all NY Rangers), Conor Garland (Arizona) and the son of slovak parents Kevin Labanc (San Jose) whom moved to the states in 1994, there was some speculations for Labanc to represent Slovakia a couple of years ago, but he chosed USA. Two other veterans also confirmed their participation at the tournament for USA, maybe the most famous names of the team so far Justin Abdelkader (who played this season in with EV Zug) and Brian Boyle (who did not play anywhere this season)

so qualification over ?

So sadly we had to change our basecamp, UEFA will repay the cancellation costs. Our Federation chosed and booked the Hotel Belmond in Saint Petersburg (basecamp of during 2018 World Cup) which will be entirely closed in a special bubble and will use the Zenit St. Petersburg training center.

Sadly it is official, Richard Pánik, Andrej Sekera and Christián Jaroš will not reinforce our team. All three said their NO. In other hand Marián Studenič from New Jersey is confirmed and will arrive next week. Also both fresh champions with Lukko Rauma Pavol Skalický and Kristián Pospíšil confirmed their participation and will join the team as soon as possible. The team staff is still working on Adam Ružička from Calgary, the response should be known in the next days. But overall this should be everything, since there no sense to call other NHLers who will eventually lose in the Play-Offs, because of coronavirus measures, they would have to stay 3 days in isolation and then another 3 days without contact with other team mates and only after they would be able to play. I guess any of the teams will not call by these circumstances during the tournament players after Stanley Cup 1st round.

Will be one of the smallest team in Tokyo composed only by mens Kayak and again as usual everything will turn around the K4...yeah, disappointing without M Canoe and any female representative, but what can we do, it is how it is

Not sure what we can expect here, Our biggest hoepe Ivana Kmeťová is pregnant and will skip this season, thus we lost chance for a female representative in this sport, the other girls are still too young and inexperienced. but I am interested in one name Lisa Maria Gamsjäger and how she will do in her debut at international senior level, this girl has a really interesting CV worth a Hollywood script. She was born in Austria to Austrian father and Slovak mother, her father left them after her birth, she moved to Slovakia (Komárno) with her mother when she was 2 years old, at 9 she watched Canoeing Slalom at the Olympics and decided to become a future star of this sport, but in Komárno they have only canoeing Sprint club and venue, so she accepted and started this sport, but seeing there more chances and financial funds of this sport in Hungary she moved to Gyor at 14 and started attending Hungarian school, at 15 received Hungarian citizenship and started competing for Hungary, won various medals at Juniors ad U23 Eurpean competitions in K2 & K4. In 2019 after graduation she decided to end her career. the sport did no more entertaining her. she looked for a job and found one quickly, worked as a flight attendant in a large flying company. But in 2020 the coronavirus came and she lost her job... Our M K4 head coach contacted her in summer and invited her to try to return to canoeing in our country again, so she agreed, restarted her career, trainings etc... and now ? well, last month she won the Slovak internal qualification for K1-200m women. and will try the Olympic qualifiers this week. Obviously there no big chane of success, she does not have the speed and strength against other trained and established athletes, but why not in Paris 2024 ? All in all, a quota from Szeged may be a bit hard to obtain, if you ask me to bet, I would say Matej Rusnák in M-C1 should be our biggest chance here though Live stream
