A guy named Akhsarbek Gulaev just won silver for Slovakia at the European U23 Championships in the -74kg class losing the final against Russian Zaurbek Sidakov. He apparently won all his previous games of the tournament by superiority... Interesting, our wrestling federation attended some Black Friday shopping in Russia since our team for the U23 Europeans was already composed of 5 naturalized guys...If we count that the almost entire senior team of last tournaments composed only of Russian born athletes, the future of SVK wrestling is a bit worrying I don´t see how a Slovak youngs can be even motivated to start doing this sport, when they´ll rarely reach the national team

Medal for team today The young K4 squad Samuel Baláž, Gábor Jakubík, Milan Fraňa and Tibor Linka earned Silver in the "non-Olympic" 1000m. Congrats guys for your first ever medal and the continuing of Slovak tradition in this event. Tibor Linka is also a part of the A team that will compete in tomorrows A-Final in the newly Olympic event 500m. Also Peter Gelle/Adam Botek will compete in the K2-500m and try to improve their mood after todays 4th place some cm from medals in the 1k event. Ivana Mládková did qualified today for the K1-200m finals, she will compete also in the 500m final tomorrow.

5 A-Finals for SVK (M K2-500, M K2-1000, M K4-500, M K4-1000 and W K1-500) That´s very very good. well done guys A special mention especially for the K2 Peter Gelle/Adam Botek managed to qualify directly for the finals from heats in both events btw our youngest athlete here, multi medalist from last years EYOF in Gyor Lucia Valová was the flag bearer of our team at yesterday´s opening ceremony, what a moment and boost for her also the table with the country name was carried by her C2 team mate another our youngster Hana Mikéciová.
