Gianlu33 reacted to SalamAkhi in Speed Skating Discussion | Qualification to Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026
Sooooo, after day 2 :
No change. To clarify, Thorup confirmed she was not going to the Games. But she still collected three quota for that can be used by any other athlete. Still, Lindenskov has not achieved any minimum qualification time so she's not eligible.
Braun just had to finish the race. She could have started and bailed out like a couple of skaters did in the 500m. But she went all the way and got DQed So only one Polish skater and Smedding is in (she would have received an additional quota anyways).
Horikawa was given the huge edge of starting in A division thanks to a couple of Dutch skips. Despite running 3s slower than Yang she still retrieved a comfortable amount of points to secure her spot. Yang benefited from the quartets but things could have gone to the wire if they ran in the same division.
Italy not starting. Failing to qualify while they only had to be top 12 (with 14 teams competing) is a huge blow.
Nope Nope Nope
It was tense. Before last pair Semirunniy Lorello and Snellink (in that order with the tie breaker rule) were tied with 110 points, ahead of Henriksen. Meaning that Semirunniy was in and Snellink in too but only in the SOQT ranking, thus depriving the Netherlands of their 9th man. But Eitrem, ranking 0.07 ahead of Semirunniy, and a few seconds later Dawson, 0.10 ahead of Lorello, reshuffled the rankings completely, saving both countryman Henriksen and Dutch matrix selectors.
So Semirunniy, as the world leader in the 10k (not the same event indeed) and 4th of one of the three WC qualifying races is not going to race in Milano. I guess the easy answer is to put that on him. But Sasaki, with 6'21, 13'30 and 6'21 is qualified, because he managed to be a tad faster in the first race of the season on the fastest track in the world. Semirunniy mismanaged his efforts in a flawed system that allows time quota in a World Cup circuit with huge track discrepancies, which works with unfair divisions rewarding way too much already established athletes. Like, look at those injured skaters not even going a hundred meters banking more points than 95% of B division, and yet still taking a spot next week. Erin Jackson could pull this till the end of the season and remain top 16.

final report: injuries to her right wrist, left knee and, above all, the cervical area
she's already had an operation to stabilize the cervical area, in the following days wrist and knee will be evaluated more precisely
however, she's moving arms and legs, so the worst prognosis is no longer a threat

Gianlu33 reacted to avlar in AIN athletes qualification for Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games and possible reallocation of quotas
I did not think it would happen again but...
I created similar post for Paris - 2024 https://totallympics.com/forums/topic/27489-ain-athletes-qualification-for-paris-2024-olympic-games-and-reallocation-of-quotas-post1-updated-1507/#comments
I was not sure if that reallocations would really happen but the reality was even more serious than the expectations.
According to this research 43% of the neutral statuses issued by the IFs were fake AIN - https://razom22.com/neutrality-research/
And the figures are based on the IOC decisions - not on the evaluations by Ukrainian NOC or sport ministry.
Right now the situation is absolutely unclear. As usually ))
Some notes:
1. Russians will not reject quotas for 2026 as they did for 2024 in judo and wrestling.
2. AINERP may be more loyal to russians due to the new member - Watanabe. His federation issued AIN status to Melnikova who took part in the primaries of the russian ruling party, had phots with Z and e .t.c.
3. I do not expect a lot of reallocations becaues of the total small number of the rus/blr athletes in qualification events right now.
4. BUT, even with these small numbers we see that FIS allowed to compete several incompliant persons.
Short notes from the IOC statement before Paris - 2024:
1. IOC`s decisions to reject quotas are final.
2. IOC`s decisions to approve quotas are not final - new facts may lead to the rejection of invitation.
3. IOC`s decisions cannot be appealed - NOCs were not invited to the Games, so it is a good will to invite individual athletes... or not

Gianlu33 reacted to Topicmaster1010 in Summer Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 Qualification Systems
Some changes that I've noticed:
3x3 Basketball: With the expanded 12 team field, one extra team per gender qualifies through world rankings, one extra team qualifies through the universality driven tournament and there's now an Olympic Qualifier series to award the final quotas.
Beach Volleyball: Continental qualifiers have have priority over the World championship and World Rankings quotas and there's now Olympic Qualifier Series quotas.
Canoe Sprint: World ranking system now in place and will be used instead of awarding world championship quotas.
Road Cycling: 2 nations ranking quotas per gender moved to universality.
Track Cycling: Sprint and Keirin ranking list is now combined and will award 14 quotas per gender. Previously it was 7+7. Team pursuit down to 8 quotas from 10. 2 of the quotas have been moved to madison (one additional team) and 6 to the omnium.
Fencing: Can get a Continental quota of you finished in the top 24 of the rankings. It was previously top 16.
Hockey: 2 pro league quotas replace two qualification tournament quotas.
Judo: 5 less universality places and 4 more Continental places. For men, there's two more spots for Asia, one less for Oceania and 1 more for the Americas. For the women, there's one more spot for Europe, one less for Oceania and two more for Asia.
Modern Pentathlon: Less quotas awarded through world rankings as a result of quota cuts.
Open Water Swimming: Introduction of world ranking qualifier.
Sailing: In general, seems to be more quotas awarded at the last chance regatta and less quotas at the World Championships
Shooting: One less quota handed out at each World Championship and the return of World Cup qualifiers.
Swimming: Olympic qualification and consideration times renamed to A and B standard. B standard is now 1% slower than the A standard compared to 0.5% in 2024. Stroke 50s have their own direct qualification events and have minimum time standards instead of A and B standards. Qualification times have been nuked again. B standard selection process has also changed.
Volleyball: New revised format. Continental championships first, then world championships followed by world rankings. In 2024, it was 3 qualification tournaments and then world rankings. Only 3 countries per gender will qualify by world rankings now compared to 5 in 2024

Gianlu33 reacted to hckošice in Men's Ice Hockey IIHF Under 20 Division I Group B World Championship 2026
Well, I doubt, anyone from U20 will be in the Olympics roster
Also, anyway in this age category every year is different one bad class does not reflect the program. I´ve heard the 2007 class will be quite good, definitely better than 2006 .
This is a common issue among second tier hockey nations, for obvious reason we do not have the pool of Canada or USA to have every year a top medal contender team, but time to time each of those nations have one good year which can bring great results.

So this ended up being correct (reduction from the 1500), which is unfortunate, because the smaller countries pay.

I am happy to announce a significant extension to the voting deadline. Jury members now have until 21:00 GMT, Friday, December 12th to submit their votes. This adds a full week to the existing deadline so will hopefully ensure anyone struggling with time to get some much needed extra space to listen to the songs and submit their votes
Since the Grand Final won't take place until after the New Year, we have some room to move the deadline to make it easier for everyone to get their votes in
