  1. A fun little explanation of the unique situation Belgium finds themselves in.
  2. The following events have been cancelled: The Pacific-Asia Curling Championships 2020 The Le Gruyère AOP Curling Championships 2020 The Americas Challenge 2020 The World Qualification Event 2021 The World Junior-B Curling Championships 2021
  3. I think the Games were originally U23 (being 19-22 probably). However, based off Ilic’s statement, I think they opened the Games up to both youth and junior athletes after the postponement of Dakar 2022.
  4. The Government of Colombia, led by President Ivan Doque, confirmed the country’s support for hosting the 2021 Junior Pan American Games today. The news was delivered by Colombia’s Minister of Sport, Ernesto Lucerna Barrero, to Panam Sports President, Neven Ilic, during the Virtual Meeting of the Organizing Committee of the Cali-Valle 2021 Junior Pan American Games. The official dates of the Games were confirmed for September 9 to 19, 2021. It was also announced that Cali 2021 will be open to young athletes between the ages of 14 and 22. The sports program for Cali 2021 will consist of 27 sports; 23 of which are core sports at the Summer Olympic Games. The following is a list of sports included on the sports program for Cali 2021: Aquatics (Diving, Swimming and Artistic Swimming), Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball 3x3, Bowling, Boxing, Canoeing, Cycling (BMX, Mountain, Road and Track), Fencing, Gymnastics (Artistic, Rhythmic and Trampoline), Handball, Judo, Karate, Modern Pentathlon, Roller Sports (Artistic, Speed and Skateboarding), Rowing, Sailing, Shooting Sport (Pistol and Rifle), Squash, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball (Beach and Indoor), Weightlifting and Wrestling (Freestyle and Greco-Roman). Additionally, in order to ensure the best young talent throughout the region participates in the Games, Panam Sports is offering qualification to the 2023 Pan American Games to the gold medalists in every individual sport. Neven Ilic, Panam Sports President, was happy with the confirmation of the 2021 Junior Pan American Games, commenting “With the postponement of the Dakar 2022 Youth Olympic Games, Cali 2021 will be the most important and massive sporting event in the world for young people in the coming years. I am sure it will be a spectacular sports festival that will serve as a launching point for our next generation of athletes and that Cali and the Colombians, as always, will be fantastic hosts.” He added, “I want to sincerely thank the Colombian Government, President Duque, Minister Lucerna, Valle del Cauca Governor Clara Luz Roldan, Mayor of Cali Ivan Ospina and the Colombian Olympic Committee for trusting us as an organization, and for the commitment and passion they have shown to youth and sport throughout the continent.” It is expected that more than 3,500 athletes from 41 countries will compete at Cali 2021.
  5. That’s only part of the reason. It’s honestly a little hard to pinpoint one reason, since we’ve seen such dynamic demographic shifts over the last few election cycles. Two big things are: One: People aren’t enthusiastic for Biden. We eliminated the candidates most people were enthusiastic about, so that the moderates could have party control and Biden as a candidate. People are mainly only voting for Biden because they don’t want Trump. That’s not the greatest selling point for a candidate to have. People have made the analogy that this election is like being asked to choose between spoiled milk and arsenic, that’s not great. Two: Trump has gained support amongst African Americans. Trump won a laughable 8% of the African American vote in 2016. Right now, he polls at 19%. I don’t know why that support has gone up, especially since Biden was basically elected as a candidate by the African American vote, but it has.
  6. I do not know. They didn’t publish that information, and I’m not a wizard, so I can’t conjure it up for you. My educated guess would be Sprint only. Shotgun isn’t contested at youth or junior multi-sports games, at least I can’t think of a time it has. Sport Climbing was most likely omitted because of a lack of national representation. There’s still only 8/9 Pan American NOCs with active Sport Climbing federations. Football was likely omitted for the reasons discussed above. Water Polo is another discipline which tends to be omitted from youth and junior multi sports games. Same thing for Basketball 5x5. Field Hockey and Rugby Sevens are shocking omissions though, especially since both have featured at other youth and junior multi sports games.
  7. Alright, PanAm Sports sent out a release today, here’s a summary: The Colombian government officially confirmed their support for the Games today. Official dates of September 9-19, 2021 have been confirmed. The Games will be open to athletes aged 14-22. The Games will feature a program of 27 sports (list below) Aquatics (Diving, Swimming and Artistic Swimming), Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball 3x3, Bowling, Boxing, Canoeing, Cycling (BMX, Mountain, Road and Track), Fencing, Gymnastics (Artistic, Rhythmic and Trampoline), Handball, Judo, Karate, Modern Pentathlon, Roller Sports (Artistic, Speed and Skateboarding), Rowing, Sailing, Shooting Sport (Pistol and Rifle), Squash, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball (Beach and Indoor), Weightlifting and Wrestling (Freestyle and Greco-Roman). Gold Medalists at the Games will qualify for the 2023 Pan American Games. Panam Sports Channel will stream a “One Year To Go” celebration on September 9, 2020. I know some of this was already posted, but it seems like Panam Sports is officially confirming all of this today.
  8. Whelp, the newest national poll by Emerson confirmed my worst fears. Support for Trump is up, though marginally, and he now sits only 2 points off Biden. Biden 49% Trump 47% We’re going to give that NAZI a second term. We’re so fucked.
  9. It’s about athletes being mature enough both physically and mentally. Figure Skating has one of the harshest athlete cultures out there. Some of the girls aren’t even in secondary/high school before competing at a high level internationally. I can’t imagine that honestly. It’s one thing for a coach to be harsh and push an adult athlete, but a completely different thing for them to do it to a 12, 13, 14, 15 year old athlete. Plus, it’s not just Alexandrovskaya we’ve seen struggle with her mental either post career, or even during. I could list off multiple skaters who have had serious mental health conditions because of what they went through in figure skating. We’re taking suicide attempts, purposeful harm, anorexia, depression, etc.
  10. From what I’ve read, it’s about athlete health.
  11. You have to wonder how Covid will impact these Games. I’m not talking about the pandemic itself being a problem during the Games (at least I hope not), but about the indirect effects of the pandemic. I could be wrong, but I think most athletes generally use the season before the Games to really start building their campaign towards the Games. With all the events being somewhat disrupted or cancelled this season, it will be interesting to see what the effects our on athletes. Curling will already feel the impacts with the World Championships being “do or die” this year in terms of qualification. Figure skaters will be hard pressed too, with the Grand Prix being held in a watered down form. There’s possibility of skaters having to show up to the World Championships with very little competition experience under them. Of course Biathletes stand to lose the most. This season is arguably the most important for them in terms of qualification. If events are cancelled, postponed, etc. it could wreak havoc on the qualification process. I think the skiers might get lucky since their events are mostly outdoors, and don’t require too large of a group of people to go forward with competition. Bobsleigh and Luge might be able to get away with competitions as well if they have a solid Covid plan. These are just some thoughts that have been creeping around in the back of my mind for a while now. I thought I’d share them to see what y’all think about all this.
  12. No, @hckosice was talking about a different French team. I can’t remember their current name, but they used to be Direct Energie. Lotto Soudal is still in the field. Astana hasn’t changed names in the last decade either I think. I feel like Movistar has been around for quite a while too.
  13. Yeah, I was just about to say the same thing. FdJ, AG2R, and Cofidis are the only teams that stayed constant, since I started watching cycling around 2010.
  14. No, it’s fine. I’m just being a little bum hurt about the Games being called off.
  15. Not officially, there’s a possibility they just choose to cancel the Games outright.
  16. Woke up to this email from Lucerne 2021 this morning: ”Dear Fans of the Winter Universiade 2021 Dear Sir or Madam With our slogan "Welcome home", we wanted to welcome the participants of the Winter Universiade to beautiful Central Switzerland and Lenzerheide in January 2021. Unfortunately, we have decided together with the International University Sports Federation FISU and Swiss University Sports that the Winter Universiade cannot take place from 21 to 31 January 2021 as planned. The main reasons for the decision were, firstly, the epidemiological situation and, secondly, travel restrictions, in particular for entry into Switzerland. Currently, many of the registered participants are highly affected by the restrictions, among others the large delegations, such as the USA, Russia, China and Kazakhstan. Unfortunately, there is not much prospect of this situation changing in the coming months. Under these circumstances, it is regrettably not possible to hold a world sports event such as the Winter Universiade in January 2021. After more than four years of preparation, it is a painful decision, but in the end the right one. The health of all the participants has always been the top priority in our evaluations. Over the coming weeks, we will examine a possible postponement of the event to a later date together with the International University Sports Federation FISU and Swiss University Sports. This will now take several weeks to evaluate. We will inform you as soon as we have more information. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our OC members as well as all our partners for their great commitment and support. I would be delighted if you would still like to participate at a later date and we could count on your support. Yours in sport Guido Graf President Association Winter Universiade Lucerne-Central Switzerland 2021”
  17. The only reason I asked is because they had made an effort to compete at previous editions. I feel like this is the event (outside of an Olympic appearance) they should target. Generally, the field for these Games isn’t the strongest, and they could place well. I will say, one thing that is awesome about the Biathlon competition at the Winter Military World Games is that the Military Patrol event is still on the program The next edition of the WMWG is scheduled for March 2021, but I’m almost certain they will be cancelled.
  18. I somehow stumbled across all the results for the 2017 Winter Military Games today, so I can cross those off my list of results I’m after. @heywoodu Any clue why none of the South American biathletes attended the games?
  19. I thought about coming off the bench for both the Tour de France and the US Open. I didn’t do the Tour de France after I came to the realization that’s it been a good year or two since I last watched professional cycling (which is crazy), and I didn’t want to look like a complete fool. The sole reason I didn’t the US Open is because of how many matches I would have to predict. I agree with @heywoodu on this one, there’s got to be a better way to run this contest next time around (for both participants and organizers). Thanks to @Wumo for organizing these latest contests though.
  20. Can’t wait for Marc Hirschi to sit on their wheels and win the stage
