Yes, I was talking about the 4x100m freestyle relay. The US will still be heavy favourites in the medley relay. -

US Olympic Trials: Day 5 Finals: Women's 100m Freestyle (OQT: 53.61) 1. Kate Douglass - 52.56 Q 2. Torri Huske - 52.93 Q 3. Gretchen Walsh - 53.13 q 4. Simone Manuel - 53.25 q 5. Abbey Weitzeil - 53.70 q? 6. Catie DeLoof/Erika Connolly - 53.86 (Swimoff needed) Very good time for Douglass. There'll be a swimoff in tomorrow's finals session to decide who gets the final spot on the relay team. Men's 200m Butterfly (OQT: 1:55.78) 1. Thomas Heilman - 1:54.50 Q 2. Luca Urlando - 1:55.08 Q? 3. Mason Laur - 1:55.37 4. Dare Rose - 1:55.70 5. Colby Mefford - 1:56.43 6. Jack Dahlgren - 1:56.63 7. Trenton Julian - 1:57.07 8. Zach Harting - 1:57.69 I believe Heilman becomes the youngest US male Olympian swimmer since 2000. Also happy for Urlando to make his first Olympic team. He was also a junior star but was dealing with injuries for the past few years. Women's 1500m Freestyle (OQT: 16:09.09) 1. Katie Ledecky - 15:37.35 Q 2. Katie Grimes - 15:57.77 Q 3. Ashley Twichell - 16:08.07 4. Kate Hurst - 16:09.77 5. Aurora Roghair - 16:09.79 6. Rachel Stege - 16:10.03 7. Erica Sullivan - 16:29.88 8. Mariah Denigan - 16:34.19 In shocking news, Katie Ledecky wins. Easy qualification for both her and Grimes. With both of them doubling up, the rest of the female 2nd place finishers are now officially on the US team. Men's 200m Breaststroke (OQT: 2:09.68) 1. Matt Fallon - 2:06.54 Q (American Record) 2. Josh Matheny - 2:08.86 Q? 3. AJ Pouch - 2:09.05 4. Will Licon - 2:09.38 5. Daniel Roy - 2:09.44 6. Nic Fink - 2:09.56 7. Jake Foster - 2:09.64 8. Josh Bey - 2:11.66 After qualifying for the finals in 1st place at the 2021 Olympic Trials, Matt Fallon couldn't maintain his momentum and finished last. But he wasn't going to make the same mistake setting an American record in this race. He'll be firmly in the medal conversation. After barely missing qualifying in the 100m breaststroke, Josh Matheny got the job done here to likely qualify for his first Olympics. Heartbreaking for Jake Foster who missed the opportunity to go to the Olympics alongside his brother. Also heartbreaking for Will Licon who finished 4th here after finishing 3rd at the last two Olympic Trials. Men's 100m Freestyle (OQT: 48.34) 1. Chris Guiliano - 47.38 Q 2. Jack Alexy - 47.47 Q 3. Caeleb Dressel - 47.53 q 4. Hunter Armstrong - 47.78 q 5. Ryan Held - 47.82 q? 6. Matt King - 47.94 q? 7. Destin Lasco - 48.14 8. Macguire McDuff - 48.64 Not surprisingly, the final was slower than the heats and semifinals (likely due to all the big men swimming next to each other and creating waves). You can add Dressel to the list of defending champions who won't get to the chance to repeat. Although he still put up a solid time and will be on the relays. Great to see his comeback. The 4x100m freestyle relay record could be in jeopardy. With the lack of doubles on the men's side so far, it's possible that Matt King may not be able to go the Olympics. Destin Lasco scratched the 200m backstroke heats this morning (an event he was favoured to qualify in) to focus on this race and unfortunately, it didn't work out for him. Semi-finals: Advancing to Women's 200m Butterfly Final: 1. Regan Smith - 2:04.91 2. Alex Shackell - 2:06.10 3. Emma Sticklen - 2:07.44 4. Dakota Luther - 2:08.36 5. Lindsay Looney - 2:08.60 6. Tess Howley - 2:08.79 7. Lucy Bell - 2:08.90 8. Charlotte Hook - 2:09.50 Could very well see a 2:03 from Regan Smith tomorrow. She and Alex Shackell look like the favourites to qualify. Advancing to Men's 200m Backstroke Final: 1. Keaton Jones - 1:55.49 2. Ryan Murphy - 1:55.69 3. Jack Aikins - 1:55.95 4. Tommy Janton - 1:56.87 5. Daniel Diehl - 1:57.29 6. Jay Litherland - 1:57.59 7. Hunter Tapp - 1:57.79 8. Caleb Maldari - 1:57.99 Really impressive swim from Keaton Jones to get the top seed. That swim ranks 3rd in the world this year. With Lasco scratching, the battle for the 2nd spot is wide open assuming Murphy qualifies. Advancing to Women's 200m Breaststroke Final: 1. Kate Douglass - 2:21.23 2. Lilly King - 2:22.45 3. Alex Walsh - 2:22.81 4. Ella Nelson - 2:23.84 5. Kaelyn Gridley - 2:25.82 6. Anna Keating - 2:27.60 7. Raya Mellott - 2:28.61 8. Isabelle Odgers - 2:29.03 A bit slower than the morning heats for Kate Douglass here but she had the 100m freestyle in the same session so it makes sense. Looks like a battle between King and Walsh for the 2nd spot. Notably, 46 year old Gabrielle Rose finished 16th in 2:30.44 Qualifiers after Day 5 (41 athletes: 23 men + 18 women): Priority 1: 1st place finishers (15 swimmers) Kate Douglass - W 100m Freestyle, 4x100m Freestyle Relay, 4x100m Medley Relay Matt Fallon - M 200m Breaststroke Nic Fink - M 100m Breaststroke, M 4x100m Medley Relay Bobby Finke - M 800m Freestyle Carson Foster - M 400m Individual Medley Katie Grimes - W 1500m Freestyle, 400m Individual Medley Chris Guiliano - M 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle, 4x100m Freestyle Relay, 4x200m Freestyle Relay, 4x100m Medley Relay Thomas Heilman - M 200m Butterfly Luke Hobson - M 200m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle Relay Lilly King - W 100m Breaststroke, 4x100m Medley Relay Katie Ledecky - W 200m Freestyle, 400m Freestyle, 1500m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle Relay Ryan Murphy - M 100m Backstroke, 4x100m Medley Relay Aaron Shackell - M 400m Freestyle Regan Smith - W 100m Backstroke, 4x100m Medley Relay Gretchen Walsh - W 100m Butterfly, 4x100m Freestyle Relay, 4x100m Medley Relay Priority 2: Top 4 in 100m Freestyle and 200m Freestyle (10 swimmers) Jack Alexy - M 100m Freestyle, 4x100m Freestyle Relay, 4x100m Medley Relay Hunter Armstrong - M 100m Backstroke, 4x100m Freestyle Relay, 4x100m Medley Relay Caeleb Dressel - M 4x100m Freestyle Relay Erin Gemmell - W 4x200m Freestyle Relay Torri Huske - W 100m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly, 4x100m Freestyle Relay, 4x100m Medley Relay Drew Kibler - M 4x200m Freestyle Relay Paige Madden - W 400m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle Relay Simone Manuel - W 4x100m Freestyle Relay Kieran Smith - M 400m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle Relay Claire Weinstein - W 200m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle Relay Priority 3: Other 2nd place finishers (8 swimmers) *Men not guaranteed selection - Need 6 doubles per gender Katharine Berkoff - W 100m Backstroke, 4x100m Medley Relay Chase Kalisz - M 400m Individual Medley Josh Matheny - M 200m Breaststroke Charlie Swanson - M 100m Breaststroke, M 4x100m Medley Relay Luca Urlando - M 200m Butterfly Emma Weber - W 10m Breaststroke, 4x100m Medley Relay Emma Weyant - W 400m Individual Medley Luke Whitlock - M 800m Freestyle Priority 4: 5th place finishers in 100m Freestyle and 200m Freestyle (4 swimmers) *Not guaranteed selection - Need 8 doubles per gender Brooks Curry - M 4x200m Freestyle Relay Ryan Held - M 4x100m Freestyle Relay Anna Peplowski - W 4x200m Freestyle Relay Abbey Weitzeil - W 4x100m Freestyle Relay Priority 5: 6th place finishers in 100m Freestyle and 200m Freestyle (4 swimmers) *Not guaranteed selection - Need 10 doubles per gender Catie DeLoof/Erika Connolly - W 4x100m Freestyle Relay Matt King - M 4x100m Freestyle Relay Blake Pieroni - M 4x200m Freestyle Relay Alex Shackell - W 4x200m Freestyle Relay Doubles count: Men: 3 Women: 6 -

I do remember that in one of the CBC interviews, she did mention she was going to focus on freestyle so it's definitely possible she dropped the 100 fly. Still think Jansen gets the 400 IM spot. Agree that MSH would be in contention at her trajectory but maybe she just doesn't like swim it perhaps? Assuming that she does drop the 100 fly, then adding the 100 free to her programme could be reasonable: 100 free, 200 free + 2 relays. -

US Olympic Trials: Day 4 Finals: Women's 100m Backstroke (OQT: 59.99) 1. Regan Smith - 57.13 Q (WR) 2. Katharine Berkoff - 57.91 Q? 3. Kennedy Noble - 58.81 4. Josephine Fuller - 59.03 5. Rhyan White - 59.07 6. Phoebe Bacon - 59.37 7. Leah Shackley - 59.40 8. Claire Curzan - 59.57 Will be interesting to see how McKeown responds. Should be a fun battle between those two in Paris. Also will likely be a fun battle between Berkoff and Masse for bronze. On another note, Claire Curzan is in big trouble to make the Olympic Team. Men's 800m Freestyle (OQT: 7:51.65) 1. Bobby Finke - 7:44.22 Q 2. Luke Whitlock - 7:45.19 3. Daniel Matheson - 7:49.34 4. David Johnston - 7:50.23 5. Ross Dant - 7:54.56 6. Charlie Clark - 7:57.28 7. Will Gallant - 7:58.22 8. Sean Green - 7:59.01 Easy qualification for him. 7:44 is an okay time for him. Big swim for the 18 year old Whitlock to grab second taking 5 seconds off of his PB. Semi-finals: Advancing to Men's 100m Freestyle Final: 1. Chris Guiliano - 47.25 2. Jack Alexy - 47.33 3. Caeleb Dressel - 47.53 4. Hunter Armstrong - 47.59 5. Destin Lasco - 47.90 6. Macguire McDuff - 48.04 7. Ryan Held - 49.05 8. Matt King - 48.11 Needing 48.11 to make the final is crazy. Alexy and Guiliano look like the clear favourites. There's a good chance Dressel won't get to defend his title from Tokyo but he looks like he'll comfortably qualify for the relay. Advancing to Men's 200m Butterfly Final: 1. Luca Urlando - 1:54.64 2. Thomas Heilman - 1:54.93 3. Mason Laur - 1:55.05 4. Dare Rose - 1:55.25 5. Jack Dahlgren - 1:55.65 6. Colby Mefford - 1:55.72 7. Zach Harting - 1:56.52 8. Trenton Julian - 1:56.73 That's two really good swims for Urlando today. Heilman also looked much better here after what looked like a rough morning swim. Notably Carson Foster scratched this event. Advancing to Women's 100m Freestyle Final: 1. Torri Huske - 52.90 2. Simone Manuel - 53.16 3. Kate Douglass - 53.21 4. Gretchen Walsh - 53.33 5. Abbey Weitzeil - 53.66 6. Beata Nelson - 53.92 7. Catie DeLoof - 53.98 8. Erika Connolly - 53.92 (Won swimoff) The top 5 are well ahead of the rest of the field. Will be interesting to see who grabs the 6th spot. Advancing to Men's 200m Breaststroke Final: 1. Matt Fallon - 2:07.39 2. AJ Pouch - 2:08.00 3. Josh Matheny - 2:08.79 4. Jake Foster - 2:09.57 5. Daniel Roy - 2:09.65 6. Nic Fink - 2:09.80 7. Josh Bey - 2:11.09 8. Will Licon - 2:11.14 Fallon just missed the American Record by 0.22 seconds. Just going to list the french qualifiers from the last two days quickly. I'm on phone right now so I'll format this later. French Olympic Trials: Day 2 Men's 200m Freestyle (Relay only): 1. Hadrien Salvan - 1:46.72 2. Yann le Goff - 1:47.05 3. Wissam-Amazigh Yebba - 1:47.21 4. Roman Fuchs - 1:47.24 Women's 100m Backstroke: 1. Emma Terebo - 58.79 (French Record) 2. Beryl Gastaldello - 59.17 Men's 100m Backstroke: 1. Mewen Tomac - 52.88 2. Yohann Ndoye-Brouard - 52.90 Women's 200m Freestyle (Relay Only) 1. Lucile Tessariol - 1:59.29 2. Anastasia Kirpichnikova - 1:59.88 3. Marina Jehl - 2:00.04 4. Assia Touati - 2:00.37 Men's 400m Individual Medley 1. Leon Marchand - 4:10.62 Day 3: Women's 1500m Freestyle: 1. Anastasia Kirpichnikova - 15:59.95 Women's 100m Freestyle: 1. Marie Wattel - 53.61 2. Beryl Gastaldello - 53.71 3. Mary-Ambre Moluh - 54.08 4. Charlotte Bonnet - 54.57 Individual quota for Wattel. Gastaldello has the OQT outside of these trials so not sure if she'll be allowed to swim this event or not. Men's 100m Freestyle: 1. Maxime Grousset - 47.33 2. Rafael Fente Damers - 48.14 3. Guillaume Guth - 48.62 4. Hadrien Salvan - 48.78 Individual quotas for Grousset and Fente Damers. -
She did the 100 back prelims today in 59.19 but scratched the final. Solid time for her.

Don't worry. She's not abandoning us. She's based in Spain and like Josh said, probably wants to get in some racing before the Olympics. Most Canadians are at a competition this week.

Also, Kylie Masse will be racing at the Spanish Olympic Trials this week.

US Olympic Trials: Day 3 Finals: Women's 400m Individual Medley (OQT: 4:38.53): 1. Katie Grimes - 4:35.00 Q 2. Emma Weyant - 4:35.56 Q? 3. Lilla Bognar - 4:37.86 4. Leah Smith - 4:39.87 5. Leah Hayes - 4:41.32 6. Lucy Bell - 4:41.40 7. Zoe Dixon - 4:42.01 8. Audrey Derivaux - 4:46.89 2nd Olympics for both women. 4:35.00 seems a bit slow for Grimes only further cementing McIntosh as the big favourite in this event. Men's 200m Freestyle (OQT: 1:46.26) 1. Luke Hobson - 1:44.89 Q 2. Chris Guiliano - 1:45.38 Q 3. Drew Kibler - 1:45.60 q 4. Kieran Smith - 1:45.61 q 5. Brooks Curry - 1:45.89 q? 6. Blake Pieroni - 1:46.09 q? 7. Jake Mitchell - 1:46.48 8. Aaron Shackell - 1:47.37 Good swim by Hobson to go sub 1:45. Chris Guiliano continues his breakout and comes out of nowhere to get the 2nd individual spot. Kibler and Smith also will be part of the relay. Smith would probably be disappointed with that swim after having the fastest time in semis yesterday. Curry and Pieroni will have to wait until later in the week to find out if they've made the team. Men's 100m Backstroke (OQT: 53.74) 1. Ryan Murphy - 52.22 Q 2. Hunter Armstrong - 52.72 Q? 3. Jack Aikins - 52.74 4. Adam Chaney - 53.44 5. Justin Ress - 53.57 6. Will Modglin - 53.69 7. Jack Wilkening - 53.79 8. Tommy Janton - 53.87 To no one's surprise, Murphy and Armstrong qualify. However, Jack Aikins almost managed to beat out Armstrong just missing by 0.02 seconds. He'll have a good shot to qualify in the 200 back though. These are the 3rd Olympics for Murphy and the 2nd for Armstrong. Women's 100m Breaststroke (OQT: 1:06.79) 1. Lilly King - 1:05.43 2. Emma Weber - 1:06.10 3. Lydia Jacoby - 1:06.37 4. Kaitlyn Dobler - 1:06.77 5. Kaelyn Gridley - 1:07.03 6. Alex Walsh - 1:07.38 7. McKenzie Siroky - 1:07.71 8. Ella Nelson - 1:07.83 In one of the biggest surprises of the meet so far, Lydia Jacoby will not be defending her gold medal from Tokyo. In an even bigger surprise, it's Emma Weber (and not Kaitln Dobler like some predicted) who out touched her for 2nd. Lilly King continued her dominance swimming in her home state of Indiana. Women's 200m Freestyle (OQT: 1:57.26) 1. Katie Ledecky - 1:55.22 Q 2. Claire Weinstein - 1:56.18 Q 3. Paige Madden - 1:56.36 q 4. Erin Gemmell - 1:56.75 q 5. Anna Peplowski - 1:57.04 q? 6. Alex Shackell - 1:57.05 q? 7. Simone Manuel - 1:57.13 8. Katie Grimes - 1:57.33 3rd straight year that Ledecky and Weinstein go 1 and 2 at US trials. It remains to be seen whether or not she'll swim this individually which would mean that Paige Madden would get a 2nd individual swim if she doesn't. Erin Gemmell also qualifies for the relay. This has significance because her father used to coach Katie Ledecky. Peplowski and Shackell will have to wait. Semi-finals: Advancing to Women's 100m Backstroke Final: 1. Regan Smith - 57.47 (American Record) 2. Katharine Berkoff - 57.83 3. Josephine Fuller - 58.79 3. Kennedy Noble - 58.79 5. Rhyan White - 59.08 5. Claire Curzan - 59.08 7. Leah Shackley - 59.25 8. Phoebe Bacon - 59.33 Regan Smith is clearly in the form of her life right now. Berkoff also becomes the 5th woman in history to go under 58 seconds. Those two will be the favourites heading into tomorrow's final. However, the rest of the times are also insane for a domestic field. 59.33 is arguably faster than what it'll take to final at the Olympics. Qualifiers after Day 3 (25 athletes): Priority 1: 1st place finishers (9 swimmers) Nic Fink - M 100m Breaststroke, M 4x100m Medley Relay Carson Foster - M 400m Individual Medley Katie Grimes - W 400m Individual Medley Luke Hobson - M 200m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle Relay Lilly King - W 100m Breaststroke, 4x100m Medley Relay Katie Ledecky - W 200m Freestyle, 400m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle Relay Ryan Murphy - M 100m Backstroke, 4x100m Medley Relay Aaron Shackell - M 400m Freestyle Gretchen Walsh - W 100m Butterfly, W 4x100m Medley Relay Priority 2: Top 4 in 100m Freestyle and 200m Freestyle (6 swimmers) Erin Gemmell - W 4x200m Freestyle Relay Chris Guiliano - M 200m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle Relay Drew Kibler - M 4x200m Freestyle Relay Paige Madden - W 400m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle Relay Kieran Smith - M 400m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle Relay Claire Weinstein - W 200m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle Relay Priority 3: Other 2nd place finishers (6 swimmers) *Not guaranteed selection - Need 6 doubles per gender Hunter Armstrong - M 100m Backstroke, 4x100m Medley Relay Torri Huske - W 100m Butterfly, W 4x100m Medley Relay Chase Kalisz - M 400m Individual Medley Charlie Swanson - M 100m Breaststroke, M 4x100m Medley Relay Emma Weber - W 10m Breaststroke, 4x100m Medley Relay Emma Weyant - W 400m Individual Medley Priority 4: 5th place finishers in 100m Freestyle and 200m Freestyle (2 swimmers) *Not guaranteed selection - Need 8 doubles per gender Brooks Curry - M 4x200m Freestyle Relay Anna Peplowski - W 4x200m Freestyle Relay Priority 5: 6th place finishers in 100m Freestyle and 200m Freestyle (2 swimmers) *Not guaranteed selection - Need 10 doubles per gender Blake Pieroni - M 4x200m Freestyle Relay Alex Shackell - W 4x200m Freestyle Relay Doubles count: Men: 1 Women: 2 -

It's more so his parents that I dislike for controlling his life and ruining his swimming career (his dad is his coach). The 100m breaststroke result is satisfying since his dad thinks his training style is superior to that of other coaches. -

US Olympic Trials: Day 2 Finals: Men's 400m Individual Medley (OQT: 4:12.50): 1. Carson Foster - 4:07.64 Q 2. Chase Kalisz - 4:09.39 Q? 3. Jay Litherland - 4:12.34 4. Ian Grum - 4:15.06 5. Tommy Bried - 4:15.15 6. Kyle Ponsler - 4:16.53 7. Gregg Enoch - 4:17.64 8. Danny Berlitz - 4:17.65 Carson Foster gets redemption from his 3rd place finish 3 years ago. Really happy for the guy. He was clearly really emotional about it after the race. Chase Kalisz will also likely be headed to his 3rd Olympics. Women's 100m Butterfly (OQT: 57.62) 1. Gretchen Walsh - 55.31 Q 2. Torri Huske - 55.52 Q? 3. Regan Smith - 55.62 4. Claire Curzan - 57.47 5. Kelly Pash - 57.72 6. Beata Nelson - 57.80 7. Lillie Nordmann - 57.92 8. Emma Sticklen - 58.44 Insanely fast times. With this race, we had Gretchen Walsh swimming the 2nd fastest performance of all time and Torri Huske and Regan Smith becoming the 3rd and 4th fastest performers of all time. Walsh and Huske will enter Paris as the favorites for gold and silver. Men's 100m Breaststroke (OQT: 59.49) 1. Nic Fink - 59.08 Q 2. Charlie Swanson - 59.16 Q? 3. Josh Matheny - 59.23 4. Liam Bell - 59.40 5. Noah Nichols - 59.69 6. Jake Foster - 59.84 7. Luke Rodarte - 59.85 8. Michael Andrew - 1:00.11 There were some doubts about him qualifying yesterday but Nic Fink delivered his best race of trials tonight to qualify in 1st for his 2nd Olympic Team. Charlie Swanson also continued his good form to likely qualify for his first Olympic Team. Semi-finals: Advancing to Men's 200m Freestyle Final: 1. Kieran Smith - 1:45.39 2. Luke Hobson - 1:45.58 3. Drew Kibler - 1:45.82 4. Jake Mitchell - 1:46.43 5. Blake Pieroni - 1:46.52 6. Brooks Curry - 1:46.60 7. Chris Guiliano - 1:46.83 8. Aaron Shackell - 1:46.95 (Won swimoff) Advancing to Women's 100m Breaststroke Final: 1. Lilly King - 1:05.57 2. Kaitlyn Dobler - 1:06.42 3. Emma Weber - 1:06.48 4. Lydia Jacoby - 1:06.66 5. Kaelyn Gridley - 1:06.67 6. Alex Walsh - 1:06.87 7. Ella Nelson - 1:07.41 8. McKenzie Siroky - 1:07.73 Should be an easy qualification for King. Lots of people thought Jacoby would be a lock for the 2nd spot but it looks like that won't quite be the case here. McKenzie Siroky qualifying for the final is pretty impressive since she's an ice hockey player and only started to swim full time recently. Also the 46 year old Gabrielle Rose placed 10th in a new PB of 1:08.32 Advancing to Men's 100m Backstroke Final: 1. Ryan Murphy - 52.65 2. Adam Chaney - 53.08 3. Jack Aikins - 53.23 4. Hunter Armstrong - 53.57 5. Tommy Janton - 53.61 6. Jack Wilkening - 53.70 7. Justin Ress - 53.78 8. Will Modglin - 53.83 A heart stopping moment happened in the 2nd semifinal where Hunter Armstrong slipped off the starting blocks and was way behind. However, he managed to still finish 2nd and qualify. Assuming there aren't any issues in the final, he and Murphy should have no trouble qualifying. Advancing to Women's 200m Freestyle Final: 1. Katie Ledecky - 1:55.25 2. Claire Weinstein - 1:55.86 3. Paige Madden - 1:56.36 4. Erin Gemmell - 1:56.53 5. Katie Grimes - 1:57.19 6. Alex Shackell - 1:57.42 7. Anna Peplowski - 1:57.55 8. Simone Manuel - 1:57.63 You will notice relay regular Bella Sims not listed. That's because she finished 17th in prelims and failed to qualify for the semifinals. This was after a disastrous 400m freestyle performance yesterday. Unfortunately, it looks like her chances of making the Olympic Team are basically over.
