  1. I wonder how the Greek women are feeling now...."f*ck, we should have done our best a bit more in that 5th place match against the Dutch.."
  2. Well I'd do the same in her case I think I mean, even if there's a 5% chance that you suddenly have to play at the Olympics, nothing would be worse than hearing you can go and not being prepared...so better prepare as if you're sure so that you are ready to fight for the gold if the time comes
  3. Ah yes, I completely forgot to mention it here One of the players (I forgot who) even postponed a surgery because of this, because that surgery means she can't play for a while for sure, but without the surgery she can still play pretty normal There are already people saying "camping teams" (teams who are on vacation already) are always good, mentioning the Danish 1992 football team
  4. Morzine, the place of Floyd Landis' epic victory in 2006 He had a huge blow in the day before, losing 8 minutes on the final climb and so losing his yellow jersey. He drank some whiskey and beer to recover and the next day he showed one of the most incredible attacks in cycling history: going full-power for the entire stage, basically riding solo for the entire stage with someone who's name I forgot crying in his wheel He took a ton of time back and won the Tour de France right there. Well, he lost it because of doping a little while later but we can't let that ruin the fun of this epic bit of cycling history
  5. The third weight is arguably the only men's weight where four different nations have a somewhat realistic gold medal chance, as far as I can tell. Of course first off it's Shi Zhiyong who, whatever the real reasons are, keeps Liao Hui off the team. Reigning world champion, 352 at Chinese nationals this year and 348kg later on in the year while being a couple kilograms overweight. I'd definitely think he is the man to beat, and if someone is going to be able to do that, the first one that comes to my mind is Russian Oleg Chen. World silver in 2011, 2013 and 2015 so you'd say he's about ready to take it to the next level, though his 342 and 344 of last year suggest he's more likely to lose against Shi, as is probably no surprise. Daniyar Ismayilov could have provided Turkmenistan with their first ever Olympic medal since gaining independence, but unfortunately he is one of the many, many athletes across all sports who has chosen to represent Turkey instead. 343 last year, which suggests he is well in the hunt for the medals. Same goes for Kim Myong-hyok, the North Korean whose 342 got him 4th place at worlds last year. Last but not least, there's a few guys waiting to pick up those medals if a couple of the aforementioned should fail. Most notable I'd say Colombian Luis Mosquera, Mexican Bredni Roque and the ever-improving Kyrgyz Izzat Artykov. Their best ever Olympic weightlifting finish is an 11th place, so it'd be quite cool if Artykov can win a medal for Kyrgyzstan if you ask me. My top-5: 1. Shi 2. Chen 3. Ismayilov 4. Kim 5. Artykov
  6. Why is reallocating an unused quota bullshit?
  7. My thoughts on the -62kg Time for the second weight, the men's 62kg. I'm fairly sure there's just one favourite here: world champion Chen Lijun and his 333kg at last year's worlds, plus 328 this year. There's really only one lifter who got somewhat, relatively close to that in let's say the past year or so: Indonesian Eko Irawan lifted a total of 320 at the national trials for Rio earlier this year which, if he can repeat it in Rio, would probably make him one of the most likely medal candidates behind Chen. I'm guessing the bronze (if Irawan repeats his performance) goes between the two Colombians, Francisco Mosquera and Oscar Figueroa. Personally I'd give the advantage to the latter. Then, who do we have left? Chadovich of Belarus had a 305 and 300 last year and this year, but both while being considerably over 62kg. Kazakh Farkhad Kharki 313 as a 69 last year, so I guess it's hard to say how he might do in Rio.. My prediction: 1. Chen 2. Irawan 3. Figueroa 4. Mosquera 5. Kharki I doubt there will be many different thoughts about the winner (even though of course nobody is a certain winner), but I'm curious about the rest
  8. I don't think today's beach volleyball pairs will think "oh my, our football team lost at home in 1950, I think we are doomed"
  9. A little less bold: I think Brazil will win 1 or 2 gold volleyball medals (and let's say 4 total medals....and 2 for the USA)
  10. Yes. Like said before and I agree with basically everyone about this: nothing against her personal, but it's bad that Belgium now basically had 2 athletes in the OQT. I would even not have complained if there was nobody fighting for Belgium in the OQT, but there was (Indra Craen I think?).
  11. I still have hope for a massive Gatlin-choke
  12. Bolt is ready
  13. I was almost thinking "Bolt fakes a false start to not have to run"
  14. You should watch the European championships final again, just for fun. Pay attention to Kilty
  15. Maybe she's the only one he doesn't call a cockroach
  16. Better than my French
  17. That Lithuanian triple jumper who carries his baby probably isn't hating him neither, oddly enough
  18. I'm getting more and more worried about PPP
  19. No, 400 and 800 if I'm not mistaken.
  20. And basically running on her own, she just completely annihilated Hassan I don't think I have seen many races that were as brilliant as this one, incredible.
  21. Wow, that was an absolutely stunning race from Muir...wow!
  22. Nope, that's not how it works
  23. I'm so glad this meet is on the BBC, because I'm sure the Dutch commentator would have said something like "12.20, that's a good time, fastest time of the year and even better than Donkova...now on to the women's 1500m"
