  1. Spain has a great squad and they are in my opinion the favorites for Gold. However, I wonder whether especially those players will perform as expected. They had a long season with their clubs, the European Championships right afterwards and now, after a break of a few days, the next big tournament waiting. So it's absolutely possible that they are reaching their physical and mental limits and are not able to perform on the level which they showed us during the Euro. Still, if Germany manages to reach the QF I really hope we can avoid Spain there
  2. What a surprise. They allow universality spots while restricting the number of participants. If they were not able to account for this in advance, that's blatant incompetence and ignorance.
  3. Actually, the athlete from Timor Leste who got an universality place for the 100 meters is a 5000m runner. Guess he's not the only one. It's a shame. All that WA/IOC wanna have is as most flags as possible and the pretense of universality - they do not care about the athletes AT ALL.
  4. Close (tbh I would have predicted the same outcome as you did )
  5. Will officially be announced on July 5th. The squad will mostly consist of players from the 2019 and 2021 Under-21 Euro squads. Max Kruse (Union Berlin) and Maximilian Arnold (VfL Wolfsburg) will likely be the only overaged players.
  6. German Road Cycling Team for Tokyo: Men Emanuel Buchmann (RR) Maximilian Schachmann (RR/TT) Nikias Arndt (RR/TT) Simon Geschke (RR) Women Lisa Brennauer (RR/TT) Liane Lippert (RR) Trixi Worrack (RR) Hannah Ludwig (RR) Lisa Klein (TT - selected via Track cycling quota)
  7. Lots of universality places have been added to the Road to Tokyo list by WA.
  8. Women's Shot Put Katharina Maisch - 18,51 m (16.6. Neubrandenburg)
  9. That defencive midfield Rabiot-Kante-Pogba did actually one of the best defensive jobs I've ever seen. Impressive.
  10. Last time Germany qualified for the Olympics was 1992.
  11. Only 3 of 17 NOCs qualified for the Olympics are from Europe. I wonder if this is a historic low share of European participating NOCs in any sport?
  12. Sorry, I got lost in the repechage limbo
  13. Hmm WIkipedia already annouced the quota places from the World Championships, but that should not be correct right?
  14. I forgot about the Mixed teams, you're right. Actually, no clue what will happen. Theoretically, SVK could enter two athletes in M Trap and a different athlete for the Mixed team. Thus, I think SVK are allowed to win three quota places in M Trap and may exchange it for another event.
  15. Wikipedia says that SVK has only one quota in Men's Trap yet (Erik Varga).
  16. C'mon, we all know how this will turn out
  17. Do we now have a full dozen of Germany missing a quota by just one place during the qualification process? Unbelievable! :D
  18. Meraf Bahta and Sarah Lahti beat the 10.000 metres Standard in Stockholm today (31:08 and 31:11)
  19. Thanks, that's interesting indeed. Since under D.1 in the same document it reads "The highest-ranked athlete from the IWF Absolute Ranking from an NOC (one per continent) not otherwise represented shall earn an individual quota place" - the bodyweight category is not mentioned here. If one stops reading after D.1, it'd tend to say that only NOCs are eligible which are not represented otherwise in Weightlifting. Weird.
  20. Great work! But how is Italy able to qualify a weightlifter via Continental representation? Those places are limited to NOCs which did not qualify other athletes. Italy, however, is in TOP 8 in -67kg.
  21. The final Diving Olympic qualification event which was to be held in Tokyo in the mid of April is cancelled. No good sign for the Olympics to happen...
  22. Actually, we already know that the four groups are formed by JPN/KOR + MEX/HON + ROU/FRA BRA/ARG + GER/ESP + AUS/KSA Only pot 3 (Africa/New Zealand) will be drawn completely without restrictions.
  23. The pots for the draw on Apr 21 are already announced: Pot 1 Japan Brazil Argentina South Korea Pot 2 Mexico Germany Honduras Spain Pot 3 Egypt New Zealand Ivory Coast South Africa Pot 4 Australia France Romania Saudi Arabia (copy/paste from Wikipedia)
  24. Oh no... that's no good news for the German team right before the Olympics. 2022 will be the last chance for the German team to shine a bit before there will be many many years in mediocrity. Personally, he was my favorite German winter athlete as he is one of very very few athletes coming from Northern Germany (the federal state of Lower Saxony, to be precise ;-)) and the only one of them who is absolutely World class (besides bobsleigh brakeman Thorsten Margis). AND he is a very nice and reflected dude. Hopefully, he will join the coaching team one day.
