  1. Tennis at the Olympics has always been in a peculiar position. It's a big enough sport with some of the most famous athletes, but with 10+ other sports at the same time, you won't be watching round 1 matches all day. You have to have some legendary matches happening like Federer-Del Potro, Djokovic - Del Potro, or it's the final stages to really get peoples attention. After back-to-back Grand Slams and just a few weeks before another, i don't see how you can devote hours of watching your ordinary Mertens - Pegula matches, when you've seen them all year long. I honestly think they should have it starting the monday before the Opening Ceremony and have the first 4-5 days only for it (and the usual football). It will fit with the regular tennis calendar and players can go prepare for the US after that and it would be a nice introduction to the competitions and you can still have the medal matches after the Opening Ceremony.
  2. We are one for example. Every medalist gets a fixed bonus, when winning the medal and then a lifetime monthly pension. Their coaches also get monthly Olympic pensions, but after retirement age i think. There are bound to be others, who also reward their medalists, but i'm getting tired to look it up.
  3. Does New Zealand have a lifelong pension for its Olympic medalists, like other countries? If so, this seems like a genius way to be set for life at 43.
  4. 2 groups done and no shady fixes so far Let's hope this continues for the rest as well.
  5. Ukraine lucked out to be in a group with Mace, otherwise their streak of consecutive loses could still be going into 2024.
  6. Having no fans was such a blessing for UEFA. It made a perfectly inoffensive castrated TV product.
  7. Did they give him the junior ball by mistake.
  8. Is there still a quarantine for the athletes when arriving? Maybe this is the reason some of these average players like Pella and Ruusuvuori are opting to pull out. They don't want to be stuck there for 1-2-3 weeks, when it's almost certain they'd lose in round 1 or 2 and won't accomplish anything. Better play in the weakened 250s/500s and rack some money and points. Either way, they won't be missed.
  9. Yeah, i've read that it actually was 2.7 wind and it won't be officially recorded.
  10. Ahh, i see clown poster number 2 has reappeared. Evidently this past year has been very tough for the mental aspect of people, but it's nice to see he is still giving it a go.
  11. Italia show delivers again. Off to a good nights sleep now. Wales next in line.
  12. Of course it's not. Was he supposed to jump with his hand behind his back? Plus his hand was firmly in the back of the swiss player..
  13. Guess there is some big internal scandal in the Swiss Int. team. Looks like Xhaka and Akanji summoned their personal hairdresser on a private plane to their base camp, as to get their new haircuts. And this is against all protocols and people back home and the swiss football federation were very angry and that Xhaka, as the captain was very selfish and not a good example. Our commentator even joked that people in Geneve were talking more about this, than the Putin-Biden meeting.
  14. Not really. I've seen only articles on the internet sites and mostly for the laugh sections. It was a fun joke at work though, whenever someone drank different things, it was followed by "Drink water" and a nod.
  15. Everyone pre-tournament: "Turkey have a great squad, look at their recent results, they'll easily pass the group. Wales are definitely last place, not playing anything like 5 years ago." Well, this didn't age well. Some people at work will need excuses tomorrow. PS. Betting sites had also Turkey lower than Switzerland for the title, before the start lol
  16. Guess this is going to be the norm from now on. The hosts are coming in with their list if sports demands and the IOC will be Santa, because they barely find hosts to begin with. That being said, PSL was and still is much better than those Big Air stunts and they shouldn't have removed it to begin with.
  17. Poor hungarians, don't they know that politics and freedom of speech are tolerated only one way. Back to detention school i'm afraid.
  18. Oh man, i wanted to see that. This should be a note, fans should attack the pitch in numbers, not one at a time.
  19. Probably, but they still should have put it on the screen, that it was cleared. I didn't see it at least.
  20. That was very suspicious for offside and yet VAR is nowhere to be seen They wait for the most obvious goals, but nope, not this one.
