  1. Our Baseball Team is actually not bad, again qualified for this year's European Championship (which has 12 participating nations). But I guess only 1 or 2 European teams will qualify for Tokyo. Won't be enough for us. Lucija Zaninovic actually won her first round match. She was very unlucky with losing to Aziez in the final seconds of the fight. And then Aziez lost to the Korean woman in sudden death round, so there was no repechage for Zaninovic.
  2. Great achievement from you, guys. And you have potential in football and handball (and men's volleyball) too. I think actually Germany is not a very strong team sports nation overall compared to some other big populated countries. They were not qualified in basketball, volleyball, water polo and rugby sevens. But thanks to football and field hockey they still top the table in that regard.
  3. I was just thinking that Denmark is the best European nation in terms of medals per capita. Very good Performance Croatia should be on 2nd place in that regard if I'm not mistaken.
  4. Kind of expected weak competition in high jump, I think only two times during this year a height of 2m had been cleared (one by Jungfleisch and one by Lowe). Blanka obviously wasn't at her best, but nice that she won a bronze medal. In 2020 she will be at the same age as Beitia is now, so who knows.
  5. What a year for Sara Kolak! This is like a fairy tale. It's our ninth medal. Come on Blanka, get us 'la decima'.
  6. I wonder who will win gold in men's 470, Australia or Greece. Seriously, negative streak in medal races has to end today. Looking good enough so far.
  7. Good effort from our team in the last quarter, but the 3rd quarter was disastrous and cost us. Holy crap, what a shitty day this was. I have enough of these tight losses.
  8. Congrats to you, guys. You played a good match. I think you had better goalkeepers (often our Problem in big matches) and better back court shooters.
  9. Huge, huge disappointment. I really did not think we would lose to Poland at this tournament. And near the end I was still confident we would win this after fighting back.
  10. Looking like it at the moment. 27 point lead for Australia after 3rd quarter. Didn't expect Australia to be that good in this tournament.
  11. Bad day in sailing, everything else was fine. Perkovic won gold, Ivancevic is in sf, Hrgovic has also secured a medal and water polo team has won. I never like it when we have to beat a team twice at the same tournament, I think that doesn't work most of the time. But our water polo team has to do that now in order to reach final.
  12. Bad day for our sailors. I now hope that 11 points lead will be enough for Fantela/Marenic tomorrow.
  13. I like the idea. Regarding the medal table I always thought that the best way of ranking the countries would be to weight the medals somehow as both usual ranking systems have their flaws. In one of them a nation with 1 gold and nothing else is ahead of a nation with 3 silver and 3 bronze for example. And in the other one a gold medal is worth the same as a bronze medal.
  14. I wasn't aware of this too. In this case there is quite much on the line tonight for Argentina. They certainly don't want to be in danger of ending 4th in this group.
  15. Brazil has beaten Nigeria 86-69. Means that we are in the quarterfinals. Argentina beating Spain later on would mean that Spain would be out, Brazil would be in the quarterfinals and Croatia would have guaranteed at least 3rd place even if losing against Lithuania. But I doubt that this will happen, there is too much on the line for Spain and too little for Argentina. So we probably have to beat Lithuania to avoid playing USA.
  16. Wouldn't Hungary be 3rd then? Serbia, Greece and Hungary would be equal on Points (assuming that Serbia wins against Japan). Serbia would have scored most goals in head-to-head comparison, then Hungary and then Greece.
  17. Does anybody know why Andrea Ivancevic will not compete at 100m? I hope she isn't injured again.
  18. You're right. My bad. Watching four events simultaneously must have confused me.
  19. Somewhat mixed results for our athletes today. Pejcic didn't show what was expected from her. Maybe she felt too much pressure as the big favorite, the last two series were very bad. She would have needed only two or three points more to reach the final. Samardzic was much behind her PB and didn't reach the semifinals. Cilic is also out, not really unexpected, Monfils probably was slightly the favorite. Kudos to Sinkovic brothers. With the Olympic gold medal, now they have done it all. Fantela and Marenic continued their good showing. They are 1st after day 2. And then the results in handball and basketball, which are perfect.
  20. Seems that Theodora Giareni is the Greek athlete who failed the drug test. She is not on the start list for tomorrow's 50m freestyle.
  21. Stipanovic is 1st after 6 of 10 races (+ medal race) and Fantela/Marenic had a good start into the competition with a 1st and a 2nd place. Kljakovic Gaspic didn't have a good day, at the moment it doesn't look like he has a chance for a medal. I hope that our basketball Team will now win two of the last three group games. One win against Nigeria might even be enough to reach the quarterfinals, but that would probably mean 4th place and a game against USA. To be eliminated in the quarterfinals wouldn't be tragic, but I would like us to have at least a realistic chance of going even further than that. Petrovic is sometimes really annoying and his behavior has hurt the Team, but I doubt that they would even be there without him. Let's see if our handball team can turn things around. They certainly have to, if they want to challenge France, Denmark or possibly Germany in quarterfinals. Semifinal in Single sculls will now take place on friday. Let's hope that Sinkovic Brothers and Pejcic can live up to expectations tomorrow.
  22. Participants for mixed doubles have been announced Pereira/Melo BRA Vinci/Fognini ITA Begu/Tecau ROM Hradecka/Stepanek CZE Bertens/Rojer NED Stosur/Peers AUS Mattek-Sands/Sock USA Radwanska/Kubot POL Niculescu/Mergea ROM V. Williams/Ram USA Suarez Navarro/Ferrer ESP Konta/J. Murray GBR Mirza/Bopanna IND Muguruza/Nadal ESP Mladenovic/Herbert FRA Garcia/Mahut FRA Pity that we are not in, but it was expected. Even with Cilic we would have missed the cutoff by much.
  23. Great Performance by Glasnovic! It's our third medal in shooting and the first sport in which we have won a medal in three consecutive Summer Olympics. Gacina was really disappointing. I was confident that he might reach the quarterfinals. He has beaten Samsonov several times in the past years i think. Ovtcharov probably would have been to much for him anyway. Cilic from now on will really be tested. Even if he beats in-form Monfils, then probably Nishikori would be waiting. Its doable for him, but very tough.
