  1. Kubot and Melo were very clutch when in trouble on own serve in 5th set. Unfortunately Kubot started servebot mode at 0-40. I don't think Marach and Pavic did much wrong there.
  2. Congrats to Muguruza. I would have expected more fighting from Venus Williams at the end, but when you are such an experienced player, you probably realize when it is hopeless because things are Just not working. Many UE by her, especially on fh.
  3. Too bad for Mektic and Skugor, they played a great tournament. Maybe this would be a good combination also for our future Davis Cup ties. If I'm not mistaken Pavic could be our first multiple Slam winner. All others have won a Slam only once so far (Ivanisevic, Majoli, Cilic, Lucic-Baroni and Dodig). But Kubot and Melo will surely be favorites to win.
  4. Hopefully Cilic can continue his good form. Semifinal against Murray should be interesting. Overall our men's tennis is somewhat worrying. Karlovic appears to be done, Coric I think lacks quality and in juniors there is nothing on the horizon at the moment. At least we have some good doubles players and our women's tennis is promising.
  5. So typical for us to lose this game in Iceland through a corner kick in the 90th minute Will be tough to win this group now, with away games against Turkey und Ukraine still to come. Great job, guys.
  6. Players are primarily to blame though. Even without tactics and without a coach, Hungary should be able to beat Andorra.
  7. Andorra had lost 58 competitive games in a row between 2005 and 2017. Now they haven't lost their last two games in a row. Bad result for the Netherlands in Group A. They are now more or less forced to win the away game against France in August.
  8. Are there still good relations between Iran and Hamas? As far as I know Hamas has broken with the Syrian regime and is supporting the rebels.
  9. Tomorrow. Men's singles matches have been cancelled for today. Of course the significance of Davis Cup is limited when top players refuse to play all the time. Croatia is good, but Spain, France and Switzerland would probably beat us anytime with their best possible team.
  10. I actually started watching at 2:5 15-30 in the 3rd set. Since then Svitolina won almost every point. Sometimes I think I jinx those matches. Anyway, great tournament by Petra Martic, even a bit disapponting that she lost to Svitolina at the end. Hopefully Cilic can make it to QF. He should be able to beat Anderson. Wawrinka in this form is probably too good on clay.
  11. Congrats to Brazil! Uruguay is now suddenly in danger of missing the World Cup after these two losses. I wonder, if there will be any debutants in next year's World Cup. I think only Uzbekistan, Panama and Iceland have a good chance to qualify. Small chances maybe for Burkina Faso and Montenegro.
  12. Apparently Blind risked too much by fielding a 17-year-old central defender, who had never played with the team before. Are van Dijk and de Vrij injured? I think Blind will now be fired.
  13. And she will have a new career high ranking. She is #29 in live ranking . Her previous career high was #32 in 1998.
  14. Croatia's Davis Cup team for the upcoming tie will be: Franko Skugor, Nikola Mektic, Ante Pavic and Marin Draganja And this will be against Spain's team: Rafael Nadal, Roberto Bautista Agut, Pablo Carreno Busta and Marc Lopez Oh boy, I hope we will have our best team together again when we play World Group play off tie in September.
  15. Germany is out too Qatar against Slovenia now.
  16. Denmark is out. Didn't think that Hungary was capable of beating Denmark considering their results in group phase. Big surprise. Germans now probably wish they would have lost against Croatia.
  17. Nevermind the Kyrgios-Wawrinka match, because the Australian has lost to Seppi. Cilic is also out, which I somehow expected. Bad start into the year for him.
  18. AO in general hasn't been exactly our favorite slam tournament. Coric still hasn't won a match there, Cilic hasn't gone past round 3 since 2011. At least Karlovic should now be able to reach 3rd round, which he also hasn't accomplished since 2012. Wawrinka against Kyrgios in 4th round should be interesting. I'd hope for Wawrinka to win, but I would bet on Kyrgios this time. Also, Luxembourg with a population of 500,000 has two players in 2nd round of Australian Open.
  19. Congrats to Argentina! But what a bad match from Karlovic. His return game is shit all the time, but I can't remember him serving as bad as he did today. But our team achieved more than I had expected this year. I thought we would lose against USA and I thought the same before the tie against France. Pity that Coric was injured. Against opponents like Delbonis I would choose him over Karlovic. Karlovic just relies too much on his first serve. On a good day he can beat a top 10 player (what Coric usually can't do yet), on a bad day he can lose to nearly everybody.
  20. The number of refugees from Cuba who are picked up by the US Coast Guard is actually low compared to those from Dominican Republic or Haiti. And that is despite the preferential treatment Cuban migrants get compared to others regarding permanent resident status. You can look up the statistics about standard of living yourself. Just look at UN statistics, HDI etc.
  21. Well, Cuba was fighting the racist Apartheid Regime and the UNITA in Angola. Cuba also has a mucher higher standard of living than most other countries in Central America. Castro was fighting illiteracy and improved healthcare. Under his Leadership the lifes of most Cubans improved compared to the situation before he came to power. He was controversial for sure, but was not a bad leader overall.
  22. Macedonia was very unlucky, they were surprisingly close to taking a point in all three games. Against Italy they conceded a goal in injury time, against Israel they missed a penalty in injury time. Thanks to our draw against Turkey we are actually a bit under pressure now against Iceland. We shouldn't have another home game without a win.
  23. Robben yes, I am not so sure about van Persie. I thought Sweden might surprise with not everything depending on Ibrahimovic anymore, with a new coach and some decent young players like Forsberg, Guidetti and Lindelöf. That first game certainly didn't look like it. Good result for Bosnia. I think they are not as good as they were a few years ago, but I hope they can qualify one more time. 2nd place seems to be possible in this group.
  24. Wales probably is the favourite there now. Depends on if Austria will continue their weak showings from the Euro. Serbia might even be best in terms of individual quality, but their results have been poor in recent years, they apparently are not working well as a team.
  25. Unfortunately this looks to be correct. They will probably finish 2nd in their group, but with only one win against Netherlands they won't be among six best 2nd placed teams. Our women's teams are quite bad overall, only Volleyball and Handball team are somewhere near top level. Could Luka Paliska be a hope for Triathlon? I don't know much about him and am not very familiar with Triathlon in general, but he seems to have solid results at junior level.
