  1. One suggestion. Reserve the first post for qualification details. PDF/Overview/Important dates, whatever format everyone agrees on. Personally, I see this change as a positive, as it reduces the clutter and athletes/fans anyway think more on the line of 4 year Olympic cycle rather than year.
  2. One of them might have been deliberate but most were genuine foul throws wherein he lost balance.
  3. But he was struggling. He had 5 foul throws. Its just his class that the 1 valid throw was enough to get Silver.
  4. Neeraj Chopra! Best Indian athlete ever! In athletics, we used to struggle to qualify, now Silver feels like a loss. And you won Silver on a night where you were struggling, looking for that extra few meters.
  5. When we won the Bronze in Tokyo, I was overwhelmed by emotion that finally I have seen Indian team win an Olympic medal. Post that, we have seen many ups and downs. There was doubt creeping up in me, was Tokyo an aberration? Coming into Olympics, I had very low hope that we will win a medal. Our first 3 games reinforced the belief. But then, we showed up. First we matched Belgium, then we exorcised our demons and defeated Australia (a win which was as memorable as any medal). The performance in these 2 matches gave us hope. Then when we went down to 10 men against GB, I thought, here we go again but boy was I wrong. The way we defended in that match was insane. After that match, I didn’t care if we medalled or not. I was proud of my team. And they didn’t let me down in the Semis as well. They gave everything they had but still came short. We lost on a golden opportunity but it didn’t matter. We were among the best. The whole mood in Indian contingent (& supporters) has been real bad since yesterday. Unlike me who didn’t believe that we would win a medal, these men came not for 4th place or Bronze or Silver. They came for Gold. They must have been devastated. But, they picked up themselves and won the bronze. They lifted the spirits of all Indian sports fans. In India, Hockey is not just a sport but an emotion. When we were under British rule, it was Hockey where we could defeat them. After independence, Hockey was one of the few things where we excelled. Now that we are much better in other sports, economically, once again it is Hockey which has given us relief. And special shout out to captain cool Harmanpreet and the LEGEND SREEJESH. Indian Hockey won’t be same without him. End of an era.
  6. Actually, 2-day tournament is better for the health of the wrestlers as it gives them more time to recover between matches. Moreover, as UWW president said yesterday, they want wrestlers to compete closer to their natural body weight and not go for such drastic measures. Problem is that competing in a weight class that is 5-6kg below your natural body weight is the norm in wrestling. Situation becomes even more drastic when there are only 6 Olympic weight classes.
  7. Situation is deteriorating fast. Multiple reports of attacks on Hindus and temples. Rioters are making lists of places to attack and loot. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cwy77vgmjlzo
  8. Yaar everyone does it. Nikhat who is normally boxes in 52 kg class but in Olympics, she participated in 50kg. Ravi used to participate in 61kg in small tournaments but participated in 57kg in World Championships/Olympics. Sarita Devi went Till 2010, Mary would compete in 46kg and Sarita in 51kg but for London, Mary switched to 51kg and Sarita jumped up to 60kg. There are numerous more such cases.
  9. Almost all wrestlers are usually 2-3 kg over the limit. They dehydrate their body to remove as much water as possible to reduce their weight. After they pass the weigh-in, they try and regain the water and strength. This is an old article which tries to explain the lengths to which wrestlers go to make weight. https://www.espn.in/wrestling/story/_/id/31636607/no-food-no-water-how-wrestlers-cut-weight-big-events
  10. You cannot pretend yesterday didn't happen. When Vinesh defeated her opponents yesterday, she was not overweight. So, her path to final was legitimate. So, her defeating Cuban was legitimate. Hence, the wrestlers who lost to the Cuban and were removed yesterday, remain out. This way only the wrestler, who broke the rule is punished. If, repechage bracket was changed to those who lost to Cuban, it would penalise Japanese and Ukrainian wrestlers, who lost to the legitimate Semifinal winner.
  11. For the rest of Olympics not expecting anything. Not celebrating anything till the medal ceremony.
  12. There are reports that it is not allowed. Unless you are injured in match and have forfeited the match by injury, you have to attend the second weigh-in.
  13. Wrestling switched to 2-day format not long ago. So, previously in the 1 day format, you played all matches on the same day and there was only 1 weigh-in. And as @MHSN said if a player was failing the weigh-in on 2nd day, they would declare the player injured and bank the Silver medal/5th place.
  14. Bhai sincere request, don't go conspiracy route. Vinesh has her personal coach and team. They would have tried everything to reduce her weight but alas it was not to be. Surely, there was negligence in not declaring her injured and getting silver but there is simply no evidence of anything fishy.
  15. Wrestlers dehydrate themselves to go below the required weight at the weigh-in. After the weigh-in, they rehydrate the body to go back to their normal weight. This is the reason some wrestlers look off colour in their first match as somedays you require more time to recuperate from the dehydrate-rehydrate cycle.
  16. No there is no redemption only more heartbreak.
  17. We could have won. We should have won. But, it was not to be. Now go on and defend the Bronze. No regret. No sorrow. No repentance. No grief.
  18. And Vinesh has redemption. She had to withdraw from Rio QF due to knee injury. Today, she has qualified for final.
  19. Fun fact. Dangal is based on Vinesh’s uncle and cousins.
  20. The defending champion Neeraj just threw a challenge to all others. 89.34 in his first thrown. One and done.
  21. Huge huge upset by Vinesh. Go for Gold.
  22. Political revolution in Bangladesh. Violent protesters have overthrown the Sheikh Hasina government. She has already been rescued to India and now there is high chance that Army/Islamists will control the next government.
  23. Thats 2 times in 3 Olympics that an Indian female wrestler lost due to injury in QF.
  24. This win is even more sweet because we had lost to Romania in World Team Qualifiers for Tokyo Olympics. Historic win for the team.
  25. And our streak of having atleast one SF in each BWF World Championship/Olympics continues. Last time we didn’t have one was in 2010 Paris World Championships.
