  1. Rozita Alipour lost her repechage match, by my count she will take the Asian Continental quota. I'm not really sure if she wasn't aware of this. she didn't look much motivated. with Grande and Alipour taking both 61kg quotas. there will be no quotas available in this weight anymore.
  2. Kazakhstan lost to Germany. which means Abdalla Mamduh Abdelaziz will take the African quota. there will be no more quota available for 75kg. so all other 75kg athletes have to qualify here. no more chance. Brian Irr (+75kg) is now guaranteed a place even if he loses tomorrow
  3. nobody can because they will compete tomorrow
  4. I have a feeling most of them don't know that
  5. so it's Jordan vs Hungary and Uzbekistan vs Germany/Kazakhstan in the semifinal if Egypt gets eliminated (he lost to Kazakhstan) he will take the African quota. and since both 75kg spots will be used, the American Scott won't qualify for the Olympics. (he is 1st in Pan-America but his fate now depends on Egypt and Kazakhstan)
  6. Tsuneari Yahiro (75kg) got eliminated and therefore he will take the Oceania quota.
  7. since she is cute, she was my favorite but unfortunately no, she is out of the Olympics
  8. this is confirmed now that Alexandra Grande will take the Pan-American continental quota.
  9. and advanced to the final round in women's 61kg.
  10. I don't know about Grozdev's chance but Hristov is #1 favorite for bronze here IMO. Martirosyan and Djuraev will win gold and silver unless one of them bombs out. 4-5 guys will compete for bronze, Hristov is slightly better than the rest. could be different if Chumak was here.
  11. huge surprise for me. I thought we are very weak in men's Kata hopefully it won't be another disappointing 4th finish. last night refs were too kind toward European athletes. the good thing is there is no European this time
  12. with Moradi out of the picture I was really hoping to see Tian Tao in Tokyo. he was always rival to our weightlifters (Moradi and Rostami) but a very likeable character and also a very fun weightlifter to watch. I think Qatar is almost guaranteed a gold medal in Tokyo. maybe first ever Olympic gold for that country. Fares Hassouna is also a great athlete. hopefully these 3 guys meet each other next year at the Asian Games. I still remember 2014 Asian Games, when Rostami finished his competition way above the rest, he was shaking hands with everybody, wasn't even watching what Tian is doing. Tian lifted 205, missed 211 and all of a sudden jumped for 218 (equal to World Record) I remember the Iranian commentator was laughing at him. but then he made that lift and Rostami collapsed on his chair he is a well known athlete here.
  13. yeah it seems he enjoys his time in Greece, that's his "home" actually. he has a Greek wife. it's hard for him nowadays to make the starting lineup because of Azmoun and Taremi but he was always a classy person, always ready to help the NT when that was necessary. also scored a goal today. (and another one against Hong Kong a week ago) hopefully we won't need his service against Iraq on Tuesday because when he is on, that means things are not working according to the plan.
  14. no, not at all, only the best ranked "European Games Gold medalist" will take the lone European quota. Banaszczyk didn't medal there. she will go only if one of those 3 athletes above her gets injured. very unlikely in this sport.
  15. I think that's unlikely. there are 2 guys above him and removing only Colombia won't be enough. I think Albania will take that Asian unused quota. and Poland will go if they really ban Colombia. Canada will be next if someone gets injured or banned. which is always possible in this sport. I don't think Canada can receive the host unused quota. (even if one is available in this weight) that's for countries "not represented yet" this is interesting, when I was reviewing things, there were no chance for ZWARYCZ but now it seems he has a pretty good chance. I'm quite sure he wouldn't even think about going to Tokyo in his wildest dreams this qualification system does wonders. Poland may have 3 male weightlifters in Tokyo after all.
  16. huge chance if you ask me. even if IWF doesn't really want to ban them. IOC will pressure them to do that.
  17. you can't qualify 4, all of them from the continental quota. that was the rule. max 3 was possible via that
  18. I have to say I made a mistake here. a big one I noticed that yesterday I remember I read somewhere that the re-allocated quota will go the NOC "not represented" yet so I assumed if India declines the 81kg quota (which they did) Ireland will get that one but now I think I was wrong, that goes to Albania. per rules I posted above that simply goes to the next ranked athlete. but still that applies to unused host quotas, but that depends on Wild Cards. there will be 4 Wild Cards and after that there will be 3 unused host quotas. they will be awarded after the wild cards. they want to know which 4 weights will be selected for the WC. the other 3 will be available for reallocated quotas. these are highest ranked athletes from NOCs with 0 quotas. they have priority to receive reallocated host quotas. (even though the rules don't say that's guaranteed) 61: Al-Saleem 67: Pineda 73: Robu 81: Brown 96: Mugurdomov 109: Sidiskis +109: Nagy or Kuworge * Nagy most probably will take the African quota. no unused host quotas for the women's side.
  19. to me that's very clear but you never can be sure about anything with these rules
  20. that won't be counted too results against last placed teams won't be counted when they are going to determine top 5 2nd-placed teams, thanks to North Korea's withdrawal Cambodia is an interesting team. they are not "that bad" but they play like they are Brazil or France I mean no defense. trying to press our defense and steal the ball. if they would park the bus it could be much less. before the last group match we know what we want. Iran will advance with a win and will be eliminated with a defeat but if we draw. then we will qualify if 2 of these results happen 1) Korea beats Lebanon 2) KSA beats Uzbekistan 3) Vietnam beats UAE 4) Jordan doesn't beat Australia #1 and #4 look very possible but we will play Iraq without knowing some of these results (only KOR-LBN will be on Sunday, two days before the rest) I don't think Australia is that kind of team to lose intentionally but they are already qualified and Jordan plays with heart and sometimes they get good results (they beat Australia in the Asian Cup before) we have to beat Iraq, otherwise our fate will be in the hands of Saudis (God forbid) and Australia. and it's just the first round
  21. actually only 1 quota in general is available for European Games medalists. not 1 per event. he has to finish in top 3 to qualify. no chance for the continental quota.
  22. I'm afraid there is no chance for him. Continental places will be decided based on European Games results and the Latvian guy in the same weight who won the EG is the first in line for the European Continental quota.
  23. so it's Bulgaria, Russia and Kazakhstan in women's 55kg. wasn't expecting the World Champion to finish last in the final round
  24. is qualified in women's 55kg BUL has 2pts, KAZ 2pts and POL 1 Poland has to beat Bulgaria. otherwise Bulgaria and Kazakhstan qualify
  25. all second round matches are finishing 0-0 ! I think those who compete the last matches will have the advantage , they know what exactly they need to qualify
