  1. Iran athletes of the year (based on our own calendar which is from March to March) Male: Mehdi Taremi (Football) Female: Nahid Kiani (Taekwondo) well, it happens when you let people decide, the most famous guy wins, Inter Milan's bench player
  2. Last week our federation announced half of the team for the 2025 Worlds (7 in Greco, 3 in freestyle) we have a very very weird and complicated trial process those guys already met the criteria or in another word nobody else met the criteria to challenge them. we won 8 medals in wrestling in Paris, 4 of those guys already confirmed their places in 2025 team. but the most important part, it's confirmed now that Hassan Yazdani is not going to wrestle in 2025 he had another shoulder surgery after the Olympics (this time in France) and they think it's better for him to not rush it if he wants to have a shot for the 2028 Olympics. he was a national team member from 2015 to 2024 and won 10 World/Olympic medals in 10 consecutive years. and beside that, when/if he comes back he will move up a weight or two. he won't wrestle at 86kg anymore.
  3. so what happens now ? I mean for likes of Ramezanov and Novikov ? our media follow the story and they reported Bulgaria will kick them out. is this correct ? (I assume not, that doesn't make sense) because in this case they have to retire, they can't wrestle for somewhere else per UWW rules.
  4. UWW usually writes a long report on every single final match in major events but for this one, it was just one line blaming the scoreboard in a normal world someone has to resign for such a terrible mistake. should we expect the scoreboard in Slovakia to resign ? https://uww.org/article/young-stars-make-azerbaijan-best-team-europeans
  5. They just awarded gold medal to both wrestlers fixing a disasterous mistake by another disastrous decision .
  6. huge huge officiating mistake in 72kg Greco final between France and Hungary Levai won the gold 4-4 but it should be 4-3 for Ghanem. that 1 point was a mistake (no point awarded for 3rd passivity caution) I think France will protest it and it's possible if they award another gold to Ghanem later. that was rule violation kind of mistake. that was a terrible start for the new UWW referee committee chief
  7. he is a UWW official too
  8. I bet you never saw such a thing before this is Chermen Valiev, Russian mercenary wrestling for Albania vs Mikhail Mamiashvili, Russian Wrestling federation president and a high level member of UWW. Valiev beat Russian star Zaurbek Sidakov in the final and apparently mafia boss Mamiashvili wasn't happy about that
  9. already started but apparently doesn't apply to previous nation switches at least for men's freestyle it's still the Russian Championships + some invitees. maybe after 10 years we see some actual European wrestlers on the mat
  10. all Russian wrestlers made it to the final in the first day. none of them was in real trouble. I think 4 of them will win the gold tomorrow but Kurbanov looked really bad and I think he will lose to Matcharashvili. of course that's not a surprise. Kurbanov wasn't supposed to wrestler here, he was a last minute replacement for the great Sadulaev.
  11. well, there is no perfect solution, sometimes nobody can score in a Greco match and someone has to win. they could leave it to the referees to decide who is more "active" but we had this before, that usually means corruption and double standards and lots of protests, another option was having overtime until somebody scores but that could mean endless matches which I still prefer but I understand why UWW doesn't want that. as I said this is not perfect but at least with this new change nobody will be passive intentionally. in Paris we had some matches where both guys wanted to be passive and that was really ugly.
  12. it took two Olympics (and 4 years) for UWW to finally realize there is a big big flaw in their current rules (we have this since early 2021) in Greco-Roman, in high level specially in heavier weights it's just hard to score. in this case sometimes the match ends up 1-1. (1 pt for passivity caution for each) under current rules lots of wrestlers decide to be intentionally passive in first 2 minutes to receive the first caution. this created lots of ugly scenes in Olympics. for example Yasmani Acosta won an Olympic silver in Paris without doing a thing! he was passive in his 3 pre-final matches and won all of them 1-1 UWW will test a new rule at the European Championship next week, only in case of 1-1 and only in Greco-Roman whoever gets the first point wins. I believe this will become an official rule soon, they should make this change long time ago but yet late is better than never https://uww.org/article/uww-test-new-greco-rule-2025-european-championships
  13. it's probably the first time the NT plays a home match on Nowruz (technically 7 hours after the Nowruz) but no that had nothing to do with the accident. that was power failure or something like that. and Iran scored the first goal on 45+27 minute btw this win 99.99% made Iran qualify for the World Cup.
  14. watching the IOC session yesterday it was like Chinese communist party, everybody praising the dictator and trying to kiss a part of his body. it was like he invented the Olympic himself. very disgusting. of course such result was expected after that.
  15. Say hello to the mixed eight event https://worldrowing.com/2025/03/17/rowing-enters-a-new-era-with-key-innovations-for-the-classic-rowing-discipline/ does it mean they are going to drop M8+ and W8+ or what ? looks like we are having another mixed event in beach sprint rowing so I assume it makes sense to drop those 2 events to keep the same number of 14 events for 2028.
  16. 3 out of 6 50% accuracy that's Ali Momeni, Amir Hossein Zare and Alireza Mohmadi. this is how we know them
  17. Really shocking news apparently from the heart attack at the age of 49 he was a 3 time Olympic Champion. couple of wrestlers have more/better medals but he was always considered as the most technical wrestler of all time. always fun to watch
  18. that was just OK, some good results mixed with some disappointing results. our top wrestlers (2024 Olympic/World medalists) were exempt here but still it was an important part of our trials for the 2025 World Championships and this tournament made it clear that we are weak in certain weights. our trial system is so complicated, something like rocket science , very hard to understand
  19. 11th actually and now
  20. no it wasn't they must really hate this sport in China
  21. maybe just having fun ? not just them, Afghan and Qatari athletes did the same. but yeah at least these NOCs sent just 1 tourist to be in the list. weird to send 4 tourists
  22. The slopestyle event looks very competitive half the snowboarders simply go to the finish line without a single jump or something
  23. IHF should ban Denmark for the next World Championship , playing against this team is not a fair fight. they are just too good
  24. it's really hard for OCA to find a host for the Asian Winter Games. no game in 2021, even 2025 Harbin was announced relatively very late. (only 1.5 years ago) OCA even accepted Saudi Arabia's crazy bid to host the 2029 event in middle of a desert! (at least on paper that looks crazy) therefore it's totally up to the host country to pick the events. this is really bad for the event's prestige but I assume OCA had no other option.
  25. apparently our NOC rejected the winter sport federation request to send a bigger delegation. they published a list of just 14 athletes. 8 in CC skiing, 2 in Alpine and 4 in SkiMo. equal number of male and female athletes in each sport.
