  1. why that's surprising ? we are supposed to be only good in fighting sports ? one guy/girl probably started something and the rest followed. that's how a sport develops everywhere, right? almost all of these guys are from the same town (Isfahan) that probably explains it. lots of kids play/train different disciplines of skating here. (I mean for fun) unfortunately we have a very lousy skating federation which never capitalizes on this potential. only this discipline has some success. still no popularity for the so-called urban and youthful Olympic discipline of skateboarding. speed slalom was in 2022 Asian Games program, therefore some of these guys had a chance to be on TV for couple of days and the new world champion Taraneh Ahmadi is a little bit famous for winning a silver medal there. (first even Asian Games roller sports medal for Iran)
  2. This is the knockout round bracket, teams from the same group will meet again in the QF so no matter what, France and Italy can't be in the semifinal together.
  3. Group A is super easy !
  4. I remember I read an interview with WL federation president who heard something from the Iraqi president of IWF. they are hopeful they can get back the same status as 2020 with 7 weight classes . maybe that's the case I didn't take it serious, to me it was just wishful thinking.
  5. 2024 World Championships. primary entry list https://mf.iwf.sport/entry_list/ I think only Chinese Olympic medalists are missing, but beside that everybody else is in the list, even likes of Talakhadze or Nasar there is one very interesting name here too, former Olympic Champion Kianoush Rostami under the name of Kosovo does he even know where is this place ? he is upset with our WL federation, this is his way of revenge
  6. David Taylor surprisingly came out of retirement to try his chance in US trials at 92kg for 2024 World Championships (non-Olympic weights) this weekend there are some rumors that the great Abdulrashid Sadulev also wants to try his chance at 92kg to add another world title to his resume, personally I think that's not correct but we will see. but if this is true and if Taylor wins the US trials and again if Albania don't act shit like last year it will be a hell of a competition between Taylor, Sadulaev and Ghasempour. much more interesting than anything we saw in Paris. ps: the great Jordan Burroughs will wrestle in US trials too, probably for his last hurrah
  7. Indonesia did great so far, but if they want to achieve something they also have to beat weaker teams (Bahrain, China) which is probably even a tougher task for a team like Indonesia. about Iran, under the current coach (who is a mafia boss IMO and I hate him more than any other sportspeople in the world) we only played one great match which was against Japan in Asia Cup QF and unfortunately that single win will keep him in this position for a long time I also think Iran came to this NT window completely unprepared. we were lucky to collect all 6pts. I believe we will do better next window.
  8. We had few early red cards in today's AFC qualifier matches. PRK managed to get a draw from so-called Asian Champion Qatar despite playing almost the whole match with 10 men! Saudis despite one man down saved themselves by a very late goal and beat China Iraq also played the entire match with 10 players and managed to not lose to Kuwait. I believe they have a good chance to qualify behind South Korea which will qualify anyway Japan destroyed Bahrain too, 12 goals in 2 matches they are clearly a head and shoulder above everybody else. the rest have to fight for the 2nd spot in that group. Australia is in big trouble now with 1 point after 2 "easy" matches. as for Iran, despite playing not-so-good they still found a way to win matches 1-0. this reminds me of 2022 qualification campaign, when the team was playing no good yet managed to win matches mostly 1-0.
  9. Thanks @phelps for gathering information but World Skate is an Olympic federation now, yet they can't provide a basic result system for their main event. OK I'm not asking for a live score system, but how hard it is to post results in PDF after each event ? not talking about the sport but this IF doesn't deserve to be in the Olympics.
  10. throat-cutting gesture
  11. he received a yellow card for excessive celebration after his 5th throw and then again another yellow card for showing that stupid religious flag/slogan. (which was about his love/believe in Muhammad's daughter) and therefore got disqualified with 2 yellow cards. it's really hard to lose a gold medal like this, but he deserved it for being very stupid.
  12. interesting start for Australia, losing at home to Bahrain 1-0 ! with Japan and KSA in the same group. it looks like another trip to the playoff for Australia but yes it's tooo early. and Japan is spanking China badly. 6-0 and counting
  13. of course I know things can happen in life unfortunately and Olympic athletes can become eligible for the Paralympics. but in this specific case, nothing really happened to this guy, no accident, no illnesses, apparently he was using contact lenses in his career. he is a well known athlete here, I just checked and even late 2022 he was still #1 in 400m in Iran winning a league competition without any eyesight problem. rumors say he wanted to compete in Paralympics for Iran but our NPC doctors rejected him. then he found somewhere else for his Paralympics project. this is near the end of his career and he wanted to make some money anyway (Turkey pays very good apparently for Paralympic medalists) I feel sorry for him but cheating is cheating. ps: I have to say there are some rumors about one or two of Iranian Paralympics Judo gold medalists in Tokyo doing the same thing, that probably gave the idea to Mr Hashemi.
  14. Matt Stutzman is just fantastic finally winning the Paralympic gold
  15. something interesting for you guys this guy who won a gold medal yesterday and will probably win another one in next few days https://olympics.com/en/paris-2024-paralympics/athlete/serkan-yildirim_2000715 is in fact the same person as this guy https://worldathletics.org/athletes/islamic-republic-of-iran/sajjad-hashemiahangari-14422407 and he is not blind, he is a national record holder in Iran in 400m and 2012 Olympian I'm no doctor but I highly doubt he is qualified to participate in Paralympics in T12 class. he probably has a better eyesight than some of us here. there are other Iranians in Paralympics, paid to compete for Turkiye but only this one completely changed his name, guess why ? probably to not get identified. didn't work well.
  16. Yeah I was watching the match, they could be in the final though, they just threw away a 5pts lead in the 2nd set (after winning the 1st) in the semifinal yesterday but still bronze is a great result. beach volley isn't much active here
  17. don't know the exact detail but our NPC claims they protested about his equipment which was successful (they also protested about the 2nd throw of Polish athlete which was annulled and decreased his result)
  18. Women's Club Throw - F32 and Men's Shot Put - F55
  19. at the end of national teams season (Euro Qualifiers was the last event of the year) we know the name of 32 qualified teams, the draw will be held on 14 September Host: WC 2022: Asia 2023: South America 2023: North America 2023: Africa 2023: Europe 2023: World Ranking: Croatia was on the last spot but they lost two matches badly in EQ, 3-1 and 3-0 to weaker teams and lost the place by only 2pts !
  20. I can confirm that's not a software mistake. protests (and therefore changing results) like this happen all the time in Para athletics. I don't know if a counter-protest works or not but as of now she is disqualified unfortunately. based on our NPC's report someone else (Brazil or Tunisia) protested probably about her equipment.
  21. Paralympics is a bit weird, results can easily change after protests Iran finished the day with 1 bronze in throwing events but then all of sudden that bronze is now upgraded to silver and another 4th place finish is also upgraded to silver medal position ! so that's 2 silver medals instead of 1 bronze. I'm afraid that was mostly at Poland's expense , which lost a gold medal and downgraded from silver to bronze in another event.
  22. yeah I was watching, good for her, she is just 15.
  23. Iran sent a 65-member delegation to Paris, because of their nonsense policies they rejected lots of quotas in different sports which shows they don't even know what's the real purpose of Paralympics and it's not about winning medals they only sent medal favorites, that was the criteria even for the team sports , there are only few exceptions like the Goalball team, which is not a medal favorite but somehow managed to convince the NPC to let them participate. not a huge fan of Para sports, but will follow this as much as I can and wish everybody the best of luck
  24. This time here in Iran the sport ministry and the NOC decided to have separate prizes ! but if we add them together considering the current exchange rate (this changes minute by minute ) Gold medalists received ~300,000$ silver medalists received ~135,000$ bronze medalists received ~67,000$ beside that wrestling federation paid extra 100,000$ to gold, 23,000$ to silver and 12,000$ to bronze medalists Taekwondo federation will also pay something which is only 20% of what wrestling fed pays. (they will get bankrupted for that they weren't expecting 4 medals out of 4 athletes) those were official numbers, (probably they already received it) but they will receive something from their state/province and probably even their own town. I'm afraid athletes from Tehran don't have that kind of privilege but in other provinces they usually supports their champions much better. and there are some other companies, sponsors and some rich guys paying some prize, etc. I assume at the end of the day our gold medalists made at least 500,000$, that's still nothing compared to what local footballers earn for doing almost nothing but still not that bad.
  25. finally https://oca.asia/news/5416-oca-press-release-oca-cancels-bangkok-chonburi-aimag.html
