  1. that was still a bloody dictatorship with his notorious secret police SAVAK, but it wasn't religious, it wasn't anti-western and the economy was better. so in short, The Shah regime was bad, the current regime is much worse. actually Iran was going into the right direction (or at least a better path) before the 1953 coup which was administrated and managed by USA and UK. I still think 1979 revolution was a huge mistake, but that was inevitable unfortunately.
  2. This is my quick answer, I hope I didn't miss anything 57kg FS: Kartbay (most probably will send someone better) 65kg FS: Sacultan 86kg FS: Mykhailov 125kg FS: Khotsianivsky 87kg GR: Bisultanov 96kg GR: Kajaia (sorry I made a mistake. this goes to ) 53 W: Wendle 62 W: Douarre 68 W: Skobelska
  3. Yes sure that was hopeful but just a tiny bit. it was more like avoiding a disaster rather than making things better. while all hardliners are bad IMO, that guy Jalili belongs to their worst group, the worst you can imagine within the Iranian society. his idea was more similar to Taliban, nobody knows how his wife looks like (which is a sign of how he thinks of women) . actually I'm somehow still upset that he has 13.5 millions vote. that's very disappointing. Jalili and his monstrous idea was the reason 6 millions more people showed up yesterday. still more than 30 millions (more than 50%) didn't which is also a bad sign. the wounds of 2022 have not healed yet I don't fool myself. this is not going to change things dramatically, Khameneyi still call the shots in important matters (he doesn't interfere in everything but still), the IRGC is still there, the hardliners still control the parliament.
  4. not sure how accurate this is but I read a report in our media saying Russia will not send a single wrestler to Paris !
  5. it looks like we have dodged the bullet for now, 6 millions more people decided to come out, increasing the turnout from 40% to 50% and that was good enough doesn't mean this cult is gone, they already have the parliament and will try everything to sabotage the new government. but at least this gives the country (which is in critical situation) 4 more years to breath. sorry for the pilots but that helicopter crash turned out to be a good thing after all.
  6. well it's hard to explain things in short but let me try there is a simple formula for elections here. low turnout = hardliner's win, big turnout = hardliner's defeat (except 2009 which was completely rigged) first round of 2024 was the lowest turnout ever with 39%. people are still very angry about what happened in 2022 and most of them simply don't want anything to do with the regime. they don't want to vote which will legitimate the regime in their minds. they have every right for that but this time it's not about picking up the right guy. it's not about making things better, it's about survival. Iran as a country is already very weak (in all aspects) I don't think we can afford another catastrophe. hardliners have something like 8-9-10 millions vote here, some of them are simply brainwashed, some are just opportunists, some are just uneducated people. no matter what. they simply vote like a sheep without thinking twice. this time hardliner's representative comes from their worst group. the most extreme. his idea is loosely based on this group (not completely but the origin is the same) as everybody knows the president won't have the complete power in Iran, someone else (Ali Khameneyi) does. yet the president is still the 2nd powerful person and can do lots of things. it doesn't mean the election will change everything tomorrow, I believe Khameneyi will control them at some degree. but this group is taking over everything slowly. Khameneyi is 85 years old and nobody knows how long he will last, he is extreme and a bloody dictator himself but still nothing compared to this cult. they somehow believe in something like North Korea's system. probably even worse when you mix that with religion. I tried to make it short and easy to understand. obviously the situation is not as black and white as I explained.
  7. We are only few hours away from a catastrophe , probably one of the worst in the very long history of this country. after the lowest turnout ever in the first round, things don't look better for the runoff, of course there is no reliable poll and I'm still hoping for a surprise when I wake up Saturday morning but it doesn't feel like that. this time it's not about just one "bad guy" but a very dangerous cult with weird delusional apocalyptic idea.
  8. as much as humanly possible ! I will stop everything else in my life and reduce my sleep time too. I usually get weak and sick near the end of the Olympics because of lack of sleep. but this one is in Europe, that's much better time difference for me. no more waking up 4 am in the morning
  9. Iran is going to send 40 athletes (29 male, 11 female) in 14 sports to Paris. that's the smallest delegation since 2004. not a surprise. that was expected. that's the result of a mixture of lack of money, bad luck in couple of sports, poor management and IOC's idea of shrinking our favorite sports.
  10. Lithuania is tying hard to lose this one you can't see this amount of silly turnovers in a Nepalese league match, 3 offensive unsportsmanlike fouls only in 4th quarter just to avoid misunderstanding, I don't mean this is intentional
  11. Congrats for the huge win but wasn't Justin Brownlee supposed to be banned for doping ? what happened to him ? did he receive a short ban ? or not even got banned at all ? in short does he keep his Asian Games medal or not ?
  12. Will they reduce the number of wild cards in 100m from the 56 quotas in this event ? or they will be added to this number ? sorry if this had been answered before. hard to check 94 pages.
  13. I was expecting a quota for Macedonia in either W57 or +M80 but there is nothing about it in their NOC's social media. so I assume that didn't happen. Cambodia at 57kg W makes sense. lots of candidates for M 80kg, but my guess is Mali or someone from Oceania. it could be Iraq but I think we would hear about it already.
  14. great job WT also covers Para-Taekwondo, maybe these 2 countries qualified someone for the Paralympics ? (highly unlikely though) if this is correct, I assume that's Ana Bello (W 49kg) for TLS and Paivou Gomis (M +80kg) for GBS both countries had only 1 entry at the continental qualifiers and these are their highest ranked athletes too.
  15. now we have the full list of wrestlers I have to re-write my earlier post again it's possible that countries change their wrestlers because of injuries or another reason. let me know if you are aware of such a change 57kg: top: Micic (1) vs Mohamed (8) /// Abakarov (4) vs Aman (5) bottom: Higuchi (2) vs Abdullaev (7) /// Harutyunyan (3) vs Zou (6) unseeded: Bravo-Young, Cruz, Egorov, Iuna Fafe, Tsyutrin, Rzazade, Almaz-uulu, Lee 65kg: top: Tevanyan (1) vs Tulga (8) /// Rivera (4) vs Mamedov (5) bottom: Amouzad (2) vs Dudaev (7) /// Musukaev (3) vs Aliyev (6) unseeded: Gomez, Valdes, Akazawa, Okorokov, Dzebisashvili, Kiyooka, Retherford, Akmataliev 74kg: top: Dake (1) vs Ndum (8) /// Takatani (4) vs Tsabolov (5) bottom: Bayramov (2) vs Salkazanov (7) /// Kougioumtsidis (3) vs Lu (6) unseeded: Montero, Garzon, Hussen, Chamizo, Zhamalov, Emami, Rassadin, Valiev, Mahdavi 86kg: top: Dauletbekov (1) vs Kurugliev (8) /// Shapiev (4) vs Ramazanov (5) bottom: Yazdani (2) vs Bagaev (7) /// Amine (3) vs Bat-Erdene (6) unseeded: Moore, Ramos, Lawrence, Benferdjallah, Ishiguro, Nurmagomedov, Gamkrelidze, Brooks 97kg top: Magomedov (1) vs Baranowski (8) /// Ciftci (4) vs Matcharashvili (5) bottom: Tazhudinov (2) vs Yergali (7) /// Snyder (3) vs Thiele (6) unseeded: Azarpira, Silot, Perez, El Ders, de Lange, Lefter, Archaia, Habila 125kg top: Zare (1) vs Deng (8) /// Akgul (4) vs Ligeti (5) bottom: Petriashvili (2) vs Kurbanov (7) /// Parris (3) vs Meshvildshvili (6) unseeded: Smith, Dhesi, Mutuwa, Abdelmottaleb, Batirmurzaev, Kosciolek, Lkhagvagerel, Lazarev
  16. despite being a terrible federation in so many aspects, UWW had a clear formula for re-allocation. and no surprise so far. all of these reallocation quotas were expected (I mean expected for those familiar with the sport) but seriously, they have a TERRIBLE way to rank the eliminated wrestlers. some of these guys are getting a quota just because they beat a very weak opponent by fall or sup and that's it. pure luck
  17. it doesn't look like a very tough group for Iran, actually Group A is probably the easier one. but with this coach we are capable of failing in any group and I really hate playing the same teams over and over. Qatar, Uzbekistan and UAE are always in our group
  18. this is not basketball where you can qualify by 1 very big win, in volleyball you can't win more than 3 sets no guarantee any of those 3 teams can qualify with just 3 pts (from a 3-0 win against Egypt) They need at least 1 pt (2 sets) in one of those two matches.
  19. The Italian police should investigate into Davide Mazzanti's bank accounts what he did last year with this team wasn't just bad coaching, that was sabotage intentionally. someone must have paid him to do that, Turkey, Serbia, USA, Brazil maybe ?
  20. their best time (in qualification or in knockout rounds) here are the 7 qualifiers in women's speed Zhou A. Kalucka Sallsabillah Viglione Lebon Romero Colli
  21. Men's speed qualified athletes by my calculation Leonardo Wu Maimuratov Hammer Alipour Tkach Shin
  22. https://sportzona.pl/app/events/view/wrestling/5567
  23. as far as I know based on this ranking https://arena.uww.org/weight-category/show/1eedaad3-e13f-6270-a58e-8f200b10e386/print/rankings
  24. that quota goes to Ukraine I mean there are two scenarios how they reallocate it. a strong one and a weak one. in this weight in both scenarios Ukraine takes it. and @rybak Poland is going to take the 125kg quota. I'm almost sure of it. UWW is probably still figuring out how to deal with some weights. that's why they didn't contact NOCs yet. but these two weights look straight forward to me. ========================================= oh OK, I made a mistake here, nobody takes the 68kg quota, another Russian Elizaveta PETLIAKOVA is invited to wrestle instead of Khanum Valieva
  25. and keep in mind Poland has a Serbian coach. and lost to Serbia last year as well. I know Poland has a very deep squad and I'm sure Polish players will take both matches seriously but still . I think Serbia won the quota tonight. they won the direct quota match vs Cuba. which means they deserve it anyway
