  1. women's finals 55kg: Kiyooka vs Zhang 59kg: Kinjo vs Tserenchimed 65kg: Zelenykh vs Long 72kg: Ishii vs Bekbergenova only one non-Asian finalist , Ukrainian girl representing Romania
  2. Tomorrow finals 55kg: Azizli vs Dadmarz 63kg: Mammadli vs Zharlykassyn 72kg: Ganizade vs Ghanem 82kg: Szilvassy vs M.A. Geraei great day for AZE with 3 finalists + 1 in the repechage. for us it was OKish to have two in the final. if could be zero, both semifinals were close. I believe our 63kg got robbed but that's mostly his own fault for having no Plan B. Ali Geraei made up for his brother's terrible day who lost to a random American guy in the first round I expect 2 silver medals, I hope I'm wrong
  3. even when Russia is banned they still have the refs in their pockets, Sefershaev and Lalaev didnt' deserve to be in the semifinal but the refs brought them here. most of the better refs had been in Paris therefore they are using 2nd/3rd tier refs here. I saw lots of terrible calls today (some of them got corrected by the challenge review panel)
  4. Yep. we just had a redraw and now we have the biggest match of all time (OK maybe the biggest ) right in the first round. Taylor vs Sadulaev and Ghasempour is also in the same half. so at least one of these guys will go home with nothing.
  5. The brackets are out but there are some reports of a possible redraw the seedings were wrong, the UWW made a huge huge mistake. their software automatically removed 2023 World Champs points from the ranking after the Olympics. for all 10 weights but they shouldn't do that for the non-Olympic weights. that is stupid nobody noticed this until after the draw
  6. Today in Albania (World U23 Champs) both guys got disqualified obviously A bit warmup for the real deal. World Championships (non-Oly weights) and the big battle of Taylor/Sadulaev/Ghasempour
  7. Technical Handbooks https://drive.google.com/file/d/13bUy7zMkEZwEBekpYN6cLR_khK6lvadS/view
  8. 0-0 in Tashkent is not a bad result considering Iran played the entire second half with 10 men but Iran got robbed of a penalty in 94th minute. it was clear handball to me, the ref called it but then the VAR room made him change his originally (correct) decision for some reasons we have to play our next home match against Qatar in neutral venue (UAE) on Tuesday. a win there will put Iran in a very good position to qualify. I'm still confident they can get the 3pts against the so-called Asian Champion. and looking at other results, S-Korea scored a big win in Jordan (they got eliminated by the same team at the Asian Cup) and Japan also beat KSA in KSA. I think JPN/KOR are safe to qualify as usual. it's between Australia and KSA in Group C and Iraq/Jordan in Group B
  9. I assume this is one of the biggest surprises ever in this sport World #1 Wang Chuqin lost to 14 years old Benyamin Faraji at the Asian Championships today. China still survived the team match 3-1 (OK I know Wang is not playing well recently but still) ps: it's unbelievable but Iran actually had a chance to do the impossible and beat China, Noshad was competitive in both of his matches against Lin Shidong and Wang Chuqin.
  10. no names mentioned, even the number of athletes is not finalized yet, the report says 4 in CC without mentioning the gender. I assume if she is still competing (not retired) she will be going , hard to find anything about winter sports athletes in the summer (or even in the winter )
  11. no idea. I just repeated what I read but I won't be surprised if they make a mistake like this. the officials here are usually terrible in reading the rules. if I remember correctly they sent an Ice hockey team to the Games back in 2017 but most of the players were ineligible to play per IIHF rules and they played some friendlies instead btw there is a federation, but not an ISU member. Ice Skating (which has a very very limited activity here) was a part of Skating (roller sports) federation but now moved to Skiing federation which officially changed its name to Skiing and Winter Sports Federation.
  12. yeah I know I mean it wasn't a different team specific for that sport. it was the same CC team participating in both sports.
  13. from what I heard , Iran has registered to participate in Alpine, CC skiing, SkiMo, Skating (they didn't mention which discipline ) and ... (this one will be surprising ) ... Curling Curling is not a sure thing yet, the NOC has to approve it. the team is very new. I mean very very new, only few months ago they gathered few people to start the sport you can't lose 100-0 in Curling, right ? anyway it will be first time ever Iran participating outside of FIS disciplines. ( I didn't count Ski orienteering in 2011 which was the same as CC) nobody cares about winter sports here. therefore finishing last won't have consequences. they can afford sending very weak teams. (which is not the case for the main Asian Games)
  14. 11 medals out of 15 athletes. for whatever reason we sent an incomplete team of 16 athletes (only 1 left for tomorrow) I wish I knew why I can guess though the result is indeed very good in such a competitive sport but lack of talent was never our problem in taekwondo. it was always there probably much more than any other country. but the problem is the transition to the senior team. most of previous junior world champions never even made the senior team. (the new federation is doing better in this regard though)
  15. preliminary entry list for the World Championships (non-Olympic weights) 2024 https://uww.org/article/world-championships-non-olympic-weights-2024-entries Abdulrashid Sadulaev won the Russian trials yesterday (he didn't look good though) and therefore his name is here, as well as another Olympic Champion Zaur Uguev. with David Taylor, Jordan Burroughs and Reza Geraei we have at least 5 Olympic Champions in the list also interesting to see lots of guys (Berdimuratov, Ganbaatar, Tsakulov, Kaipanov etc) cut weight massively from their usual Olympic weight to wrestle here. which shows the importance of a World Championship title ps: 2024 Olympians are not allowed to wrestle here.
  16. it happens when you think too much ahead about the next match (vs Brazil) while you have a tough opponent ahead. they gave up 4 silly goals in the first half and then it was a mountain to climb. Iran had a last penalty exactly in the last second which hit the bar have to admit Iran played terrible the entire match and didn't deserve the win but Morocco is also a very ugly team. lots of acting, deceiving, diving and protesting in the 2nd half. putting Iran in 5 fouls very early which made the team playing cautious
  17. not really, there are some guys here and there still keeping the embassy in this and that country or the UN but there is nothing left of that previous government which was weak and corrupt and gave up everything easily to Taleban savages Taleban run everything inside the country, yet nobody officially recognizes them. sport organizations still recognize the old flag and the old national anthem etc. but unfortunately this is a lost cause, the world sooner of later has no choice but to accept these savages. so far Taleban is OK with this, they are busy with their own stupid/weird things inside the country. but I think at some point in future they will ban Afghan athletes inside Afghanistan to compete under this flag. IOC always can find some Afghan refugees in Europe to compete under the old Afghan flag though. this futsal team almost has no tie with the Taleban, most of these guys were/are refugees in Iran, they are from Hazara ethnic. (Talebans are mostly Pashtun) but even the Cricket team which consist of Pashtun people still compete under the old Afghan flag, as I said Talebs are OK with this FOR NOW. btw they had a great tournament. they lost to Paraguay only in extra time
  18. UWW changes few things for Russian/Belarus wrestlers https://uww.org/article/uww-updates-eligibility-criteria-russia-belarus-wrestlers I assume with the new criteria almost all (if not all) of them will be eligible for UWW competitions. I'm talking about top Russian wrestlers. which means we will most probably see Sadulaev in Albania next month. Uguev too, from what I heard he has to wrestle AbbasGadzhi Magomedov first to make the team.
  19. we had the first huge huge upset of the tournament, Venezuela knocked out one of the favorites Spain by a late goal. VEN advanced to the KO round as the 4th third-place team with -6 GD
  20. both Iran and France wanted to lose. the match was very very ugly. the first half finished 0-0. France had zero shot on goal. Iran tried couple of shots . one of them was serious but then this happened at the start of 2nd half and after that our coach said OK I give up Frenchies are better actors. and then it was a serious match for something like 15 minutes Iran has a tough match vs Morocco first to meet the very strong Brazil in the QF. let's hope we see the repeat of 2016 match
  21. French cinema at its best
  22. This is really disgusting France is even more determined to "not win" . they have a zero shot policy
  23. secured a place in the knockout round by two big wins BUT based on what I saw in last two minutes (our key players intentionally receiving yellow cards to be suspended for the next match) I can imagine what's the plan for the last group match, losing intentionally to finish 2nd in the group (to avoid Brazil in possible QF) ironically they did the same last World Cup against Argentina, not trying to win, to finish 2nd in the group and that didn't turn out well. they got eliminated against Kazakhstan (Brazil B) in the QF it will be a shame repeating the same ugly tactic. and it will be harder this time. it was easy to lose to a top team like Argentina but losing to France ? that will be tough.
  24. Hassan Yazdani after his shoulder surgery in France yesterday (he had another shoulder surgery last year which wasn't great and we saw what happened in the Olympic final ) most people thought the Olympic final was the last match of his career but that's not his plan. he still wants to come back to win that 2nd Olympic gold after losing two Olympic finals in 2021 and 2024 in dramatic ways even if everything goes well he will be out for 2025 season and will come back to the mat in 2026. he won World/Olympic medals from 2015 to 2024 and this means his 10-year streak will be broken
  25. I think they (or the generation before them) also won few medals in previous World Skate Games (maybe in 2019 ?) in this discipline. they usually battle with Taiwanese girls/boys for the title in world and asian competitions. this time they won but it's usually a very narrow margin. and they lost it when it mattered the most in Hangzhou Asian Games. that was their only chance to make a name for themselves.
