  1. that means 81kg will be pretty weak in Hangzhou, no China, and no Rahmat Erwin but unfortunately our guy was terrible at the world champion, so it doesn't matter we are not going to win that gold btw the competition unofficially starts in something like 30-35 hours and still no results/schedule section. booo
  2. tough question our TV commentator went crazy with that call and some people still think Yazdani got robbed of a gold medal with that call but if you ask me, those kind of situations are tricky, that was a 50/50 call, I wish they would called in our favor but I understand why they didn't. I would probably do the same if I was the judge. so in short, to me that was correct but 4pts for Yazdani was also correct too. they have to make rules more clear for situations like this. btw just to tell you guys how important Yazdani is here. when our 125kg guy Zare won the gold in a dominant fashion and left the mat, the first question Iranian journalists asked him in the mixed zone was "what do you think about that call in Yazdani's match?" imagine winning a world title and the first thinh you are asked about is someone else's match!
  3. the last quota also goes to Kurbanov , with a 8-3 win. as the UWW commentator said, he "won" the quota but has to wait for IOC's final decision
  4. since I'm not sure UWW's result system software post the results let me tell you that Shapiev (UZB) wins 3-1 and gets the last 86kg quota, 3 for Asia, 1 for Europe and 1 for America
  5. Yazdani's defeat was really sad but expeceted. he is a 9 time World and Silver medalist but he just can't beat this Taylor guy but Zare saved the day by his dominating gold medal. at least we are guaranteed to not leave this competition withtout a gold medal. now time for 5th place matches
  6. I think it's very simple, wherever AIN athletes participate in direct qualification events and "win" a quota. that quota will be on standby pending IOC's final decision actually it's IOC's fault, not UWW. and I'm 100% sure they wouldn't do a thing without consulting with the IOC. IOC is fully aware of everything. they just have to make their mind about this. Yes or No.
  7. as @ChandlerMne said there will be a 5th place match at the end of the day, I mean after the medal ceremonies
  8. no Man Asaad was in Group D and just participated in weight-in without lifting a thing he is either injured or saving himself for the Asian Games, same as Djangabaev. I know Asian Games matters a lot for most of Asian countries (including us) but still it's not a good sign for a sport when people prefer an Asian Games title over a World title ! (and yes I know it's about prize moneys too)
  9. 4 defeats and we have nobody in the semifinals 57 and 75 defeats were execpted but really disappointed with 79 and 92kg defeats, Nokhodi simply fell into the Russian's trap. when you are facing a Russian you have to push from the start because if you are leading by 1 point there is 90% chance that you lose the match. they know how to score in the last 30 seconds and Azarpira was a total disaster, he lost despite leading 9-4 at some point. 3 of 4 semifinalists lost so many times to our 2nd/3rd tier wrestlers in past couple of years speaking of Olympic weights, Emami did nothing special against Sidakov, losing 6-0. Sidakov almost lost his 1st match but he is a snake, he always finds a way to win. I think he will beat Bayramov in SF easily but still it will be a long road ahead in the repechage for Emami. 57kg was a different story, we gave up on our so-called experienced wrestlers and sent a 18 years nobody kid instead. surprisingly he won 2 matches before losing to the defending champion Abakarov. I hope Aba makes to the final and brings back our kid to the repechage but even in that case he has to beat Aman good day for Azerbaijan, they have 3 in the semifinal. USA also received 3 defeats and even Kyle Dake barely survived in his matches. but star of the day was Kougioumtsidis, beating Kadi and Salkazanov also Micic surprised everybody by beating the Olympic Champ Uguev
  10. back to back surprises at 74kg Chamizo is out, so is Kadimagomedov !
  11. as said above we don't know that yet but I watched UWW commentators during the afternoon session and they never said anything about AIN wrestlers not being eligible to qualify. I will pay more attention tomorrow during the finals to see if they say anything about it. personally I think they won't get the quota for now but that will be reserved for them until IOC takes the final decision in this matter. they have plenty of time before the continental qualifiers to do that.
  12. sure but two of them had their competitions today 61kg Abbasgazhi Magomedov was the clear favorite before the event and he proved that on the mat too. easily making it to the final dominating everybody including the Ukrainian. (no shake hands after the match and UWW didn't care again) from the other side I was expecting the Kyrgyz guy to qualify but Vito Arujau was great. I think Magomedov will win the final too 70kg Zain Retherford was the clear favorite IMO and he made it to the final. I believe your guy has a realistic shot for the bronze. I didn't know him before today but like most of your lighter guys he is not giving up easily A.M. Yazdani is a talented wrestler but he lost to almost everybody this year, so him being in the final is surprising. I don't think he will win the final but I hope I'm wrong and for tomorrow weights 79kg I think two big favorites are going to meet in the QF and that's Nokhodi (IRN) and Usmanov (RUS/AIN) I believe Usmanov has the upper hand. Nokhodi has a unique style comparing to our other wrestlers, more similar to Russian style. bottom half looks easier to me, I think Mykhailov (UKR) is the favorite with Gamkrelidze to win the bronze. Mykhailov tried his luck at 86kg mostly this year, I don't know how he is doing one weight down, but if he making weight properly he will be very dangerous. 92kg the draw is unbalanced, most of favorites are in the bottom half. Valiev, Azarpira, Valencia and Nurmagomedov and I can add the Japanese kid Yoshida to the mix too, we know him very well because of his Iranian father, he won the Asian title this year and to me he has a chance for medal. unfortunately our World Champion Ghasempour got injured and we had to replace him with Azarpira who is good but Ghasempour was something else. I think Akturk can win the top half, he is the clear favorite. but the bronze medal is up for grab,
  13. Ligeti has some tricks up his sleeves and almost gave us a scare when he scored that 4pts against Zare but he is not young and after that Zare easily scored tons of points on him. that guy Khramiankov has couple of wins against our 2nd/3rd tier wrestlers, so I know his potential probably better. of course Ligeti can take the win with one of his nasty throws , winner of that match will finish 5th though but will be one win away from the quota. of course, it's important to win the quota early, because then you can prepare yourself better. but in this specific sport winning the quota doesn't mean the same guy will to the Olympics. they still have to go through our own trial process (even though by wining a medal they will have a huge advantage over the rest) it's also about matchups and different styles. for example that Uzbek guy was great until the SF but Yazdani handled him quite easily, he usually does that against Russian (and ex-Soviet) wrestlers but he struggled against Amine (SMR) who is American in fact. anyway it was a good day, 2 quotas, 3 in the final (2 expected 1 surprise ) we are in a race with team USA for the team title and they are leading after the 1st day. Yazdani-Taylor is probably the most anticipated sporting event here (I mean outside of football) people will get very upset if/when he loses. and unfortunately I can't see him winning. Taylor was just better today
  14. so here are the quotas for tonight 86: 125: these guys in repechage will try for the remaining 3 quotas tomorrow 86: needs one win needs couple wins at least / I think it's fair to say that 3 quotas will be between KAZ/UZB/SMR/BRN, only the Mongolian can change that 125: needs one win needs couple wins at least / no chance for PUR and I think BLR will beat Ligeti (HUN) or at least he has a better chance. that CAM wrestler is actually Iranian so it won't be walk in the park. last night I would considered Baran (POL) as favorite but Kurbanov (AIN) was better than my expectation so I say 3 quotas will be between RUS/BLR/TUR/USA but POL and HUN can change that
  15. Geno is not the same great Champion we knew. he almost lost to the Russian, had problems even against Cambodia (which is a 10th tier Iranian wrestler) in the first round Parris did good specially in his first match. I think it will be 50/50. if Geno gets a chance on top . he can still beat anybody in the world 10-0 by his fantastic gut-wrenches. but he is physically in a terrible shape.
  16. hmm, not really. these 2 guys at 86kg and 125kg are our bests, their quota was 99% guaranteed. can't say the same about other Olympic weights unfortunately. 2-3 more quotas will be a good result (absolutely no chance for 57) and actually people here are a bit upset because H. Yazdani didn't look good. he used to finish his matches 10-0 in 2 minutes. that didn't happen today and he had troubles even against a guy from Australia !!! his match vs Taylor is something like a Messi vs Ronaldo thing here. 61kg defeat was quite upsetting, this guy sucks big time, but at least we had a positive surprise at 70kg. he was terrible recently, nobody expected too much from him. (and yes we do care alot about the non-Olympic weights too )
  17. we know the semifinalists 61kg Arujau vs Zhumashbek Uulu Phartenadze vs Magomedov 70kg A. Yazdani vs Ramezanov Retherford vs Andreasyan 86kg (Olympic weight) H. Yazdani vs Shapiev Taylor vs Daulatbekov 125 (Olympic weight) Zare vs Akgul Parris vs Petriashvili
  18. the link I posted before is working now. all results are available
  19. there is but it doesn't work no update since the first 20 minutes (the link probably doesn't work foryou but even if it does at the moment it only shows the first few match results) https://arena.uww.org/session/show/1ee3cbae-f200-6c3e-a149-d54d04edeeec/print/complete-results
  20. Russia picked up the first L that was a non-Olympic weight but their guys don't look in their best shape , not at all
  21. apparently so, kind of an agreement with our wrestling federation apparently but it works terribly, I can only watch 2 mats. but I have the other two mats on TV too. (I also have access to a Tajik TV)
  22. it's supposed to be free for Iranian users but doesn't work properly. getting better though
  23. it's a nightmare their result section sometimes doesn't work. the broadcast is terrible. mostly not working ... seriously, they had to test their new system now ? for the biggest event of the year ?
  24. Greco yes for sure even though that's much harder to predict. we have much more favorites comparing to freestyle but I'm not really informed enough about women's wrestling. I mean I watch medal matches in major events but it's not like I follow all events everywhere. (which I do specially for men's freestyle and less for the Greco)
  25. most of your guys are new to me, not really familiar with them. this is the strongest qualification tournament with only 5 quotas available , so my answer is no I don't think so I don't know your 61kg guy but his draw is not that bad, if he is as good as your usual lightweight wrestlers, he has a shot for the bronze. Aman is the current Asian Champion, that means a lot. Abakarov is the current world champion but he is not unbeatable. he cuts a lot to make 57kg. of course he can end the match 10-0 quickly but if Aman survives the early storm he has a chance in the 2nd period. I think he is in top 7-8 of this weight and with a bit of luck he can win a quota.
