  8. TENNIS QUALIFICATION with Rohan bopanna ( currently 11th ) reaching the quarters his chances of reaching the top 10 brighten ( he has gained 180 points already ) If rohan reaches the semis he will surely overtake Bruno soares ( rank 10th ) If Ivan dodig /Melo pair lose in the next couple of rounds Dodig ( rank 8 ) drops enough points to come behind rohan most of the others who had similar points to Rohan have dropped out ......currently Roger vesslin ( rank 15 ) is still in the race and if he finishes well ahead of rohan he would overtake rohan ............................ so it seem that rohan has a reasonable chance of reaching top 10 and being guaranteed a place in the doubles at rio
  9. ROLAND GARROS girl’s singles event, Karman Kaur Thandi beat Oana Gavrila 6-1, 7-5 in the opening round.
  10. gv update needed
  11. Seema Antil Punia, a 32-year old discus thrower from Haryana, qualified for the upcoming Olympics in Rio de Janiero by winning gold at the Young Thrower's Classic in California on Sunday. Punia threw a distance of 62.62 metres, which was ahead of the Olympic qualification mark of 61 metres. It was also enough to beat her opponent Stephanie Brown Trafton, who win silver with a throw of 60.50 metres. she had recently done 60.80 so was definitely expected to reach the qualification but after many recent disappointments in athletics with the Olympic qualification recently it was great to receive this news
  12. one more amazing achievement of the amazing Leander paes http://indianexpress.com/article/sports/tennis/leander-paes-could-soon-be-6th-in-list-of-most-doubles-victories-2823474/
  13. The Taiwan boxer as she defeated Mary Kom in the ranking fight ..........................
  14. I was watching the World champs India vs australia round of 16 http://watchnow.club/video/2016-aiba-womens-world-boxing-championships-session-9b around 1hr 50m is pavitra fight Pavitra fight I feel the final score surprised me ... I felt she dominated round one and four , three was even and round two the Australian had the edge .............. watch the fight and tell me what you think it was not an outright robbery but the score was surprising, especially round 4 scoring ( pavitra lost ) I am not sure how the scoring was happening ........ especially round 4 ..........why would two judges score australia more when I felt the Indian controlled that round
  15. I agree completely it is impossible to score accurately ... I have been watching boxing for some time now and the scoring at times lacks rationale as happened in the fourth round .... 2 scored against her and one scored for her .....after watching the bout I find it difficult to see what they saw ?.a.. and it makes it frustrating for fans I am sure ...... freestyle wrestling has become one of my favorite sports to watch under the new rules ...I wish they could do something about boxing
  16. India at the boxing rink sarjubala in the 48 Kg ( round of 16 ) - Pavitra - In the 64 ( round of 16 ) - seema punia in the 81+ ( round of 16 ) Sarjubala was dominant against the srilankan ..... the 4th round is remarkabale as she opens the srilankan up to the right hook , beautiful combinations throughout...... the srilankan was plucky and nice to see the srilanka in a major boxing tournament at the round of 16 ......... Sarjubala won ( for those of her in this forum who were suggesting that she move up will see how unlikely that can be as even in this contest she was really tiny and had reach problems ) ... I remember there was a category called 45 which has been removed but surjubala was in that category a few years ago ( sarju won ) Pavitra fight I feel the final score surprised me ... I felt she dominated round one and four , three was even and round two the Australian had the edge .............. watch the fight and tell me what you think @Prashanth @Partha_SG @Smit @Suneet @RickygoestoRio @gvaisakh @Sanjib@tirtha22 @kapil857@shrikant it was not an outright robbery but the score was surprising, especially round 4 scoring ( pavitra lost ) Seema fight - I was suprised by AZE she was so passive in the first two rounds that seema was scoring at will ......I expected the AZE at the heavy weights to have a better fighter as they have had some success in this weight ( seema won ) you can watch all fights http://watchnow.club/video/2016-aiba-womens-world-boxing-championships-session-9b sarjubalas fight around 50m , 1hr 50m is pavitra fight and seema 2hr :22 we have 5 QF as of now which is a good result as of now ( I wish there was the 1-2 olympic categories in this )
  17. Narang has been having a back issue so had withdrawn from the three positions and only was participating in the prone so I guess that must be affecting him...hope he recovers in time for Rio as India is fielding him in three events
  18. 3 in action at the boxing world championships .today ................... While we have been disappointed with the No Indians achieving Olympic Quota at the Boxing Womens world championship ....... we still have many of our boxers left and I hope all of us get behind these hardworking boxers ... There are 6 indian still in action out of 10 weight classes...... while this is the olympic qualification it is also a world championship ............. sarjubala in the 48 Kg ( round of 16 ) - in action today - our best boxer currently - seeded second - hopefully she would get a medal Nikhat Zareen - In the 54 ( QF ) - This girl must be watched to see our boxing future ......I feel she can come to 51 Kg and try to be in Tokyo Sonia Lather - In the 57 ( QF ) -She is doing well and again may be saritas replacement so we must see her performance closely Pavitra - In the 64 ( round of 16 ) - in action today - she is a very good boxer in 2014 she reached the QF saweety - in the 81 ( QF ) .............. again one of Indias fine women boxers , a very likely medalist seema punia in the 81+ ( round of 16 ) - in action today today I am hoping for all three boxers to win but ... Pavitra and sarjubala should win easily 3-0 is the score I am expecting ..................... Seema bout is even-steven with a slight for the Aze boxer so
  19. good point smit ......
  20. Pankaj is true champ
  21. Hey Gv looking forward to seeing what events are there this week last week has been really frustrating as an Indian olympic fan 1. Loss of all three Indian boxers from the quota race - the poor state of Indian boxing was exposed while we are seeing record numbers in other sport ....... Boxing seems to be the where there will be a steep fall from London .....partially it is the qualification process but mainly it is the poor state of the federations ... Many of our federations seem to go through this political crap and Indian sports and fans suffer ...... the last two years the boxing federation has been going through all the jockeying for power and our sports lack exposure , support and hence are coming down , the same thing happened with hockey , gymnastics and now rowing and boxing 2. Sidhanth thilanya acheiveing the quota standard and then the wind being just above the norms ( +2.1 ) 3. Jitu and anissa reaching the finals but no medals 4. poor baton exchange in the taipei open led to no results 5. strong -1.4 winds lead to our women runners not improving on our fed cup results at the taipei open 6. No improvements even on PBs at the Japan seiko open So I am looking forward to the luck changing this week and looking forward to see your list ............ of course major events seem to be continuing into this week ...... Roland garros , boxing shooting
  22. a event of course that I am looking forward to.....
  23. Good for India to make the bronze second year in a row ....Lost to japan very closely in the group ........ Hopefully we can go one step more next
  24. They have to be careful they do not have many chances and they need to have two good relays ............. not one
