  1. will take part in its first official international sporting event tomorrow. It is sending a team to the Athletics Championships of the Small States of Europe (taking place tomorrow in San Marino). Papa Francesco incoraggia Athletica Vaticana a testimoniare la “cultura della fraternità” ai Campionati di atletica dei Piccoli Stati d’Europa (San Marino, 5 giugno) | Athletica Vaticana
  2. I'm pretty sure it's 10 teams like last time. Czechs in my opinion are sure to qualify. (currently ranked 1-6) will definitely be there. (7) doesn't have an Olympic-caliber ice dancing team, and Zandron will have a very tough time qualifying for the men's event anyway (8) to my knowledge doesn't have any active pairs teams (none have appeared at their Nationals since 2018) (9) will almost certainly qualify either a woman or a pairs team at Nebelhorn, so they should make it (10) has no men, pairs or ice dancers (11) it would be a miracle if either Hallam or Jones/Boyadji qualified, given how few spots are in play for men/pairs (12) have already qualified in 3 events, so they will be there (13) have a strong pairs team and ice dancing team, at least one should definitely qualify at Nebelhorn (14) Czechs as it stands are #10, the last qualifiers, and will only need at most one additional quota for ice dancing (15-20) are all missing Olympic-level athletes in at least one discipline, so even if they overtake Czechs on ranking points, they shouldn't be a threat
  3. It's not a bad theory but just reading the paragraph it's quite a stretch. "ISU Members who have earned the necessary points according to Rule 378, paragraph 2b) and c) will have the right for two (2) or three (3) entries if, in addition, they had two (2), respectively three (3) Skaters/Pairs/Couples qualified for the Free Skating/Free Dance in the World Senior Championships immediately preceding the OWG."
  4. 3. Twenty-four (24) entries for Ladies and Men, sixteen (16) entries for Pairs and nineteen (19) entries for Ice Dance will be determined according to the classification outlined in paragraph 2 above. ISU Members who have earned the necessary points according to Rule 378, paragraph 2b) and c) will have the right for two (2) or three (3) entries if, in addition, they had two (2), respectively three (3) Skaters/Pairs/Couples qualified for the Free Skating/Free Dance in the World Senior Championships immediately preceding the OWG. The remaining entries under this paragraph 3 will be attributed to the ISU Members with the best placed and qualified for the Free Skating/Free Dance Skaters at the World Senior Championships immediately preceding the OWG. 4. The remaining open entries available will be filled by ISU Members in order of their placements at a Senior International Competition designated by the ISU and conducted in the autumn of the calendar year immediately preceding the Olympic Winter Games. The open entries are available only to: a) ISU Members which have not previously earned an entry, for only one entry per such ISU Member. b) ISU Members which have earned the necessary points for two (2) or three (3) entries but did not have two (2) respectively three (3) Skaters qualified for the Free Skating/Free Dance at the World Senior Championships immediately preceding the OWG. Such ISU Members are entitled to enter one Skater in the qualifying event who, however, cannot be a Skater that had qualified for the Free Skating/Free Dance at the World Senior 30 Championships immediately preceding the OWG. I don't know about you all but this seems to obviously say to me that 24/16/19 entries will be given out at the World Championships and are not 'reserved' for the Nebelhorn trophy. If not then both Brezinova and our pairs team miss out...
  5. True, and they could get an additional team quota if they don't make it there. Does have any pair skaters though? There weren't any at this year's Korean Nationals.
  6. From my calculations, the Men's Nebelhorn Trophy will be a mess, as all have the right to enter a skater there. But, since two skaters qualified for the free skate but only earned one quota, there will be 7 spots available at Nebelhorn instead of 6. So it'll basically be the entire world's second-tier skaters fighting for two quota spots Same with pairs as will definitely claim one of the 3 quotas, but I'm not sure if (also eligible) has another pair. The women's will be much better though as while the is a sure quota and don't have anyone else who would reach the WCH free skate regularly, so that'll be the world fighting for 5 spots.
  7. Czech commentator (former figure skater) is savaging the Belarus team. "Neumí bruslit"
  8. @heywoodu Could Brazil enter a women's relay? Any other Brazilian women in Europe? Shame Gabi Neres didn't make the trip.
  9. If I understand correctly, it's ironic that while it seemed like Bruna and Jacqueline Mourao were competing against each other for the Olympic spot, Jacqueline is the main reason Bruna still has a chance? Because she was the only Brazilian to score under 300 FIS Points at the Championships, and participating in the skiathlon and team sprint will give Brazil extra nation ranking points.
  10. Bit off-topic but Elizabeth Swaney just got added to the Cross Country FIS Points list... will she try and appear in the Sprint? https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/general/athlete-biography.html?sectorcode=CC&listid=300161&competitorid=259065&type=fispoints
  11. Oh you’ll love what the Czechs are doing then. Lol
  12. We lost to Lithuania dark day for Czech biathlon
  13. I live in DC (10 min walk from the White House). It’s a mess. City under curfew. Lots of people rushing to buy food before it started. Sometimes you hear a siren or helicopter in the background. See if there was proven fraud maybe this would be justified sort of like the protests in Belarus but the issue is he hasn’t conclusively proven any of his allegations and I’ve lost my patience with him. It’s not worth this. I really feel for all the law enforcement and first responders who have to deal with this now. The worst part is most Trump supporters I talked to today are so behind him they’d do absolutely anything he’d ask them to do without hesitation. There were some nuanced voices and people with healthy skepticism but definitely the minority. It’s a problem everywhere in politics tbh but especially here. I also think that today’s events will lead to one-party rule one way or the other. If Trump succeeds in staying in power he will try to solidify it, and if Democrats take power they will use today’s events as an excuse to severely restrict any future conservative opposition.
  14. Damn. I thought it was only in Eastern Europe that those kinds of 'fans' existed...
  15. Liberec 2009... Half of the Czech women's ski jumping team (a 12 year old and a 14 year old, there were no age limits) crashed during training and didn't start.
  16. Thanks! Just free-lancing, I kind of just write them whenever I get an idea. Really if you or anyone else here would like to publish in ATR sometime, I'm happy to try and put you in touch, so do let me know. They're real nice and you get paid $100 per article. I hear you. I was considering making it a hit-piece but it's a bit hard to do as someone just starting out. But you know, maybe you could write! Perhaps not in ATR but in your local newspaper or start a blog or something. Honestly my inspiration to write was to share many of the feelings people had here so readers could think a bit more critically about what the IOC does. I've always thought 'fascinating' can mean captivating either in a good or bad way. Murder mysteries are fascinating but you wouldn't want them to occur again... haha
  17. If anyone's interested I just wrote a review of the 2024 sports programme in Around The Rings. Would love to know your thoughts, I tried to keep it somewhat balanced http://aroundtherings.com/site/A__101937/Title__Paris-2024-Sport-Program-A-Young-Persons-Review/292/Articles
  18. If anyone’s interested I published an Around The Rings piece about how the election could impact future Olympics http://aroundtherings.com/site/A__101446/Title__Trump-Vs-Biden-Will-Olympics-Be-the-Winner/292/Articles
  19. Looks good! I am in New Zealand until August so timezones might be hard, but we will cross that bridge
  20. YES YES I don’t have a console so not sure how I’d do Mario/Sonic but that’s a good idea overall
  21. Sure. Maybe make a dedicated thread about it and see what interest there is.
