  1. Time catches up with everyone eventually. Amazing that he was able to win gold as a 28 year old last year, very rare to see old guys who are still competitive in distance events. Maybe he should try the 50 free ...
  2. Interesting stat for GB: They had 8 finalists in olympic disciplines so far: Men's 200 free: 2 finalists (Richards and Dean) -> Both won a medal Men's 100 free: 1 finalist (Richards) -> No medal Men's 100 breast: 1 finalist (Wilby) -> No medal Men's 200 IM: 2 finalists (Scott and Dean) -> Both won a medal Women's 200 free: 1 finalist (Anderson) -> No medal Women's 200 fly: 1 finalist (Stephens) -> No medal Not sure if there is any other event where they could have 2 finalists, maybe men's 50 free or women's 400 IM.
  3. Van Rouwendaal in the 10 km open water race? Brave prediction ...
  4. Always funny to see how terrible those predictions are. For team GB: Gold for Gadirova? Don't see it. Gold for Hodgkinson? Would still favor Mu. Silver for Muir? Would be rather surprising ... Silver for Laugher? First he needs to qualify ... Silver in men's 10 m synchronised? Possible, but they aren't the favorites for silver. Silver for Peaty? I think him retiring is more likely. Silver for Greenbank? Interesting prediction after he didn't even qualify for worlds ... Silver in the 4 x 100 m mixed medley? Seems rather unlikely ... USA, Australia and China are all clearly ahead. Bronze for Asher-Smith (200 m)? Would be a huge comeback, but we will see. Bronze for the men's 4 x 100 m medley relay? Seems rather unlikely unless Peaty comes back sharp (which doesn't seem likely).
  5. France (and/or GB) might end up with more/as many individual finals in olympic events as China, which would be a huge surprise (at least for me).
  6. Interesting to see that Turkey is still irrelevant at senior level after having great success at junior level for quite some time. Also i expected a bit more from Spain, but maybe Titley needs a bit more time. Will be interesting to follow the development of those two nations in the next couple of years.
  7. Amazing night for GB, before today they had 4 individual finals in olympic events and now they doubled it in just one day. So far half of their finalists won a medal, Scott and Richards could continue the trend tomorrow.
  8. Two germans in the round of last 16 of women's foil, but no Ebert (who choked again, which dramatically decreased the chance for a german medal).
  9. Great to see Gonzalez in a final. Very versatile swimmer (100/200 back, 200/400 IM, 200 fly), but maybe he would be better off focusing on less events. Also impressive by Dean to come back like a freight train.
  10. Bosnia and Denmark both with their first individual final in an olympic disipline in women's 200 fly (31st and 32nd country to do so).
  11. Bad last turn by McIntosh, still safely into the final. Also nice to see Pudar rebounding after her subpar performance in the 100 fly.
  12. Marchand might actually try to win 4 golds here, not sure if he will be able to handle the same load next year. He seems safe in the 400 IM, but it looks a lot closer in his other 3 events, he might want "focus" at his home olympics.
  13. Very tough doubles for Marchand and McIntosh in this session. So far it is paying off for Marchand, not sure about McIntosh.
  14. Very slow semifinal in women's 200 fly, but good to see Crevar again, she used to be a good talent in the 400 IM.
  15. Good news for Hungary in men's 100 free, they might win more than one medal after all even without Milak.
  16. Insane that Heilmann and Kharun tied! Those two + Chmielewski could be very dangerous for a long time. Milak almost looks like a grandpa compared to them ...
  17. Amazing silver for Poland! Great new generation (Masiuk included).
  18. Good point (I guess you weren't talking exclusively about men?). Pilato, Miressi, Galossi, Paltrinieri, Martinenghi, even Ceccon. Maybe you could also add Razzetti and Burdisso. Italy so far with only 5 individual finals in olympic disiplines, less than Germany. Italy could end up with less than 10 individual finals in olympic events. Even 2 years ago it seemed unthinkable, but France is clearly outperforming Italy (and might be the european number 1 right now).
  19. For me races are more enjoyable when they are close, but i guess you have a different and unique definition.
  20. Hafnaoui had 3 fast races in his career. 1 at the olympics and 2 here, the rest of the time he is completely invisible. Too obvious sadly.
  21. The level has exploded in most disciplines. Interesting when we also take the explosion of performances in running and cycling (Pogacar, Wingegaard) into account. Obviously there are new drugs on the market. Hopefully Germany will catch up soon.
  22. Not sure what you mean with fun, but Finke still looks like the clear favorite.
  23. Interesting to see that France might have the 4th most individual finals in olympic disciplines, only behind USA, Australia and China, but ahead of GB, Canada, Japan and Italy. Not too long ago their swimming program was completely dead. Sending Marchand to Bowman and naturalizing Kirpichnikov of course helped.
