  1. Sad to see that Turkey also uses intersex athletes now ...
  2. I get that (of course), but it doesn't have to be that way. There are already a million races a year that are decided by team tactics, not sure why we need another one. Also surprising to me that someone says that it shouldn't be about nationalities but then argues for a rule that makes team (= nation) tactics more likely. I think with 3 riders per nation the races would get less predictable. It would be a different kind of race than we usually have. Something else that is interesting (at least for me): In cross-country skiing we never see tactics like in cycling. The top athletes in cross-country skiing just go fast from the start and destroy the field.
  3. Back then protesters were preventing you from watching the race, nowadays it is commercials ...
  4. I am officially a fan of Mitrovic from Serbia. She could be a star (at least in Serbia, triple jump probably isn't important enough for her to become famous globally).
  5. Very nice result on day 1 of the european U20 championships from a german perspective: 13.13 in women's 100 m hurdles by Rosina Schneider Fastest time by a german U20 athlete since 1986.
  6. Not even sure why cycling road race should have more than 3 athletes per nation (as pretty much every other sport)?
  7. a) The european junior championships in 2019 were before the junior world championships, so your argument doesn't really make sense. b) Finucane also never did anythting else impressive at junior or U23 level. Before today there was no competition that indicated that she was a special talent. c) If you say that ther progression isn't unexpected for her age, then you would have to ask yourself why Pröpster, Kouame and Friedrich, who are all not much older didn't have a remotely similar progression. d) If you think that Finucane improving by that much since the european championships was expected (in case british cycling clearly focused on worlds), then you have to ask yourself why Capewell, who was clearly faster than Finucane at the european championships, is now slower than her. If she indeed used the same bike, then there is no "logical" explanation for her improvement. Both her teammate (Capewell since the european championships this year) and her former peers (Pröpster, Kouame since 2019 junior worlds) haven't shown a remotely similar improvement.
  8. Ok, as long as i don't have any proof i won't believe it (which doesn't mean that it isn't true). If she really used the same bike, then her progression makes even less sense. She wasn't even close to Grabosch at europeans and now she is faster than Friedrich who is lightyears ahead of Grabosch.
  9. 1) About the bike: Look at the articles i posted above. 2) She was completely hopeless in the sprint event at europeans and lightyears away from the german girls in qualification. 3) She finished 3rd at 2019 junior worlds in sprint and time trial. She got destroyed by Pröpster who is the german number 4. There was absolutely no indication that she was a special talent. In the time trial both Pröpster and Kouame completely destroyed her by 0.3/0.4 seconds, it wasn't even remotely close.
  10. Are you sure? The following article made it seem as if GB would use a new bike at worlds: https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/the-hope-x-lotus-track-bike-for-the-2024-olympics-is-wilder-than-ever/ https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/about/article/20230727-about-bc-news-Paris-track-bike-to-be-debuted-at-2023-UCI-Cycling-World-Championships-0
  11. I think it is at least 90 % the bike. She was completely lost at european championships not too long ago. She also never did anything remotely impressive at junior level.
  12. The elimination race should be an olympic event, it is more exciting than most of the other events (maybe excluding sprint and keirin). It always baffles me that many federations have no clue what people want to watch. Make events closer/less predictable/easier to follow and more people will watch. Maybe some football representatives bribed officials of other sports in order to get them to make their own sports as unwatchable as possible -> Makes football more popular ...
  13. The omnium format is incredibly stupid, the first 3 events are pretty much pointless.
  14. Obviously they use the wrong tactics, but their goal is obviously right. Impossible to change the system without breaking the rules that were made up to make sure that noone can change the system. There is a long history of people being thrown in jail who were later seen as heroes.
  15. Absolutely the worst world championships i can remember. One event per day and somehow the sessions still last 5 hours and they never manage to stick to the schedule. The paralympic events should either not be part of the program or take place during the break between morning and evening sessions (when noone is forced to watch it).
  16. No, too much rounds is definitely a problem. Maybe they could also do what you said, but basically noone getting eliminated before the semifinal makes it incredibly boring.
  17. It is nice that you are so proud, but you should remember that compound isn't an olympic discipline.
  18. Probably anything that breaks the rhythm.
  19. The world rankings don't mean much, GB has the top 2 positions in the women's world ranking ...
  20. Interesting that it seems to be more unpredictable than shooting. I guess if archery would have more rounds it would also be more predictable. More shots = Less unexpected outcome.
  21. 4 out of the 8 individual semifinalists are from the Americas, 2 from Europe (if you include Gazoz) and 2 from Asia. Europe might win both golds despite only having 2 out of the 8 individual semifinalists. Always interesting to see the difference between archery and shooting. India (so far), China, the US, Hungary and Norway are doing much better in shooting than in archery. The Netherlands for example is almost nonexistant in shooting. Japan and Mexico also seem to be doing much better in archery. Also interesting: I just looked at the shooting medal from the last olympics and i was shocked to see that India didn't win a single medal while South Korea only won 1 medal. won twice as many medals as , , and combined ... Combined number of medals of , , , , and : 3 Combined number of medals of and : 4
  22. Unruh must be sitting at home crying right now. Can't believe that Peters made the final, Unruh had a huge chance this week. Overall crazy results. Gazoz was the only "expected" individual medalist. Valencia (and maybe D'Almeida) winning a medal wasn't really shocking either, but apart from that the results were very unexpected and probably won't be repeated next year.
  23. Last time they didn't win an individual recurve medal: 1981 (no pressure for their only remaining athlete in the men's competition ...) Last time they won less than 4 medals in recurve (mixed excluded): 1987 (they can at best get to 2 medals here) Last year they won all 5 golds in recurve ...

  25. Women's keirin has too many rounds. It should be prelims - semifinal - final (no repechage).
