OlympicIRL got a reaction from maestro in Totallympics Open International Song Contest 2024
I would like to make an effort later this year to update the TISC stats for historical purposes and even create new stats but as you can imagine it’s a time consuming project. But I always feel it’s a worthwhile endeavour to have all sorts of data relating to the contest to make it more interesting and build up the history. If any of you have an interest and would like to help out, please message me to let me know, I’d appreciate it

Perhaps swapping with China? Would fix 2 problems with 1 swap? @Vic Liu

Haven’t done an update on my dad since mid July, so thought I’d share.
He ended up getting out of the hospital a couple days before the Olympics, and has generally been getting better the past couple of months.
Unfortunately, the past couple of days he’s been really sick, and was vomiting for much of yesterday. He was taken to the hospital last night, and is expected to be there for at least a couple of days.
Just sucks to see him struggling this much, hoping for as speedy of a recovery as possible

I am really sorry to announce this, but I am forced to pull of from this edition.
I am sadly now too busy with outside life currently (mainly fresh new job which is consuming major part of my daily time), that I do not have time to visit and participate in the forum as much as I would wish, did not have time to even listening the songs at least once.
I knew this will happen when I was considering my participation, sadly, it appeared to be true.
Sorry for that @Cinnamon Bun one more time. I was really looking forward for your edition
It is definitely not a farewell, rather a temporary hiatus until my free-time will be more open and friendly, sadly, it is not going to be sooner than next year for sure.
Anyway, when I will have some time i will try to watch a take a look on the thread and contest.
Wish you all good luck and happy contest.

No quotas basically means maximum number of placings possible in an event. So for example, Ireland participated in Men's Hockey there were 16 athletes but just 1 quota as the team can have just 1 placing

🇺🇾 Juan Izquierdo, 27, football player from Nacional. He had an arrythmia in the end of the match against Sao Paulo in Copa Libertadores, then cardiac arrest and brain damage before death. Shocking news, the saddest part is that he has two little kids and the younger one was born a couple days ago.

No I know exactly what you mean, I think we'd all love to see him have a crack at even bigger heights to see what is the limit of his abilities but we know that won't happen.
This reminded me in the past when my mother would always be annoyed by Yelena Isinbayeva who according to her just hid under a towel all day and then would come out at the end and put 1cm on the bar to break the record. She never remembered her name and would call her "that annoying one with the towel"

Ireland claim 4 medals at 2024 World Rowing Championships
Ireland wrapped up a successful week in the water at the 2024 World Rowing Championships in St.Catherine's, Canada with a haul of 4 medals including 2 golds and 2 bronze.
The highlight of the performances came from double Olympic champion, Paul O'Donovan, who claimed his third world title in the men's senior lightweight singles category.
Reigning champion Siobhán McCrohan claimed another medal in the women's senior lightweight single sculls, this time having to settle for the bronze medal behind 2022 champion and Olympic medalist, Ionela Cozmiuc of Romania.
In the Under 23 category, Ireland's Ciaran Purdy and Donnacha Keeley carried on the fantastic success of Irish men's lightweight rowing by claiming gold in the lightweight double sculls.
Meanwhile Brian Colsh partnered with Adam Murphy to claim the bronze in the men's heavyweight doubles sculls.
There were no medals for Ireland in the under 19 categories, but they did have a few creditable results, including a 4th place finish for the junior men's quadruple sculls squad.
Overall a good championships for Ireland with plenty of young blood to keep the success and momentum going into the future.

Yes, he will only increase by 1cm at a time, so for example if he was to reach 6.38m, that would need 12 more world record to be broken. So let's say, how many times is he likely to break a world record in a season. Logic tells you it will get harder and harder to do so. Let's look at the last few seasons to see how many times he broke the world record:
2022: 3 times
2023: 2 times
2024: 3 times
So if we say he is able to break the record 3 times a year (which will obviously get harder to do as he raises it further each time) to get to 6.38m it would take him another 4 years which I think is about doable. But it also depends on him staying at the current level and even getting better, which I think he can as well. Makes you appreciate getting to see Mondo and these WRs because in a couple of years time these might become very rare and might be one of those records that lasts for decades.

2024 Boys World Junior Rankings
Now with the conclusion of the European Juniors, Olympics and Junior Pan Pacs, thought it would be a good idea to take a look at how the World Junior Rankings this year. These results were taken from a mix of the World Aquatics website, the Nuoto Mondiale Rankings and Swimcloud. With many competitions not contesting the stroke 50 events this year, I've decided to exclude them from these rankings. 33 countries are represented in these rankings.

Israel Olatunde breaks Irish 100m National Record
Israel Olatunde set a new Irish NR in the 100m at the NEB Open meeting in London this afternoon. His time of 10.12 secs (+1.7 m/s) carved 0.05 secs off his current Irish record which he set at the European Championships in Munich in 2022.
Great start to the LA 2028 Olympic cycle by Olatunde . As a reminder, the automatic qualification standard for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo is 10.00 secs so he still has a little bit to go to reach that but this is an encouraging result in what has been a difficult 2 years for Israel.

OlympicIRL reacted to Sindo in Totallympics Announcements Thread
Discussion Threads are moving from an annual cycle to a quadriennium cycle, and being merged with the Olympic Qualification Thread for the following Olympic Games.
Example: Alpine Skiing Discussion | Qualification to Winter Olympic Games Milano-Cortina 2026
You might see the downside of this so I anticipate the benefits of it
- There will be no need to open discussion threads every new year, but just every 4;
- In the past we had some discussion threads very active and some with very few replies. Having also the general Olympic qualification discussion in the thread will guarantee each thread to be active during the Olympic quadriennium;
- We will still have separate threads for single Olympic qualification events, so these threads are only for general discussion related or unrelated to Olympic qualifications;
- In the past, we had to move lots of posts between Discussion Threads and Olympic qualification threads. This now will not be necessary anymore because there is a single thread for both.

Not sure where to post this since I don't want to just stick it in the music thread, but I have to say I absolutely loved Eurosport's Paris 2024 theme, which they played throughout. This really added to my overall experiences and memories of the Games. It sounds very dramatic and menacing at times, in a good way, but just loved it
