  1. Yes. Ireland are not happy as Darragh McElhinny had it as a goal for this year and they split the field based on seasons bests, not personal bests. So while he would be a medal chance based on PB, he’s running in the B final based on his SB Late decision according to an Irish journalist. Poor decision too IMO
  2. Not showing sport live and leaving it to later in the day/evening is so archaic it’s hilarious. Literally wouldn’t be tolerated in any other country
  3. The only athlete at these games who's going to Tokyo just won a medal. David Kenny carries on our fine walking tradition with a silver in the 20km walk
  4. It’s funny seeing some of the horses without their sponsors name included. Took me a minute to figure out some of the big names weren’t riding new horses in Tokyo
  5. I think they may have told the athletes concerned and the relevant bodies. They’re just making it as vague as possible to keep the athletes concerned involved as much as possible. It’s nice for them to feel part of the squad I’d imagine
  6. Just replied in the other thread. They’ve said it’s a squad of 25 with 22 names as individuals So the relay team is Healy + 3 (and 2 alternates). Suspect they’ve left it like that deliberately…
  7. If you count the athletes named though they name 22 individual quotas (including Phil Healy) but the OFI say there’s a team of 25 So they’ve named a 4 person relay team of Healy + 3 others with 2 alternates
  8. This is not true. In the UK (and by extension Ireland), they have their own Eurosport 1 feed too there’s obviously some common programming but it’s definitely a specific UK fees
  9. There’s the athletics team. So I think we are done now. Leon Reid included. No Adeleke in the relay
  10. There's only Cavendish that can sprint. So DQT won't get any help at all Until Movistar or Total Direct do something silly again
  11. O'Sullivan hasn't really developed in the senior ranks though. He wasn't close to qualify on his own merits. Now clearly I'm no expert but perhaps the internal qualification wouldn't allow it either
  12. Yes. Peloton already regrouped. Hope I'm wrong
  13. After a gap of one games, Team is back in the Olympics and we have selected Derek Burnett in men's trap. This is Derek's 5th Olympics with a top ten in 2004 his best result so far. A former individual European medalist and team world champion, Burnett was also the only Irish shooter to compete in 2004, 2008 and 2012
  14. Derek Burnett officially selected in men's trap
  15. They're just trying to get people to watch what should be another boring sprint stage with only one sprinter left in the Tour!
  16. Just to wrap a bow on the relays, Ireland officially announced its swimming team today and didn't mentioned the mens 4x100m medley team They've used the 4x200m freestyle to bring butterfly swimmer Brendan Hyland to the games with 2 relay only swimmers It's the largest ever Irish swim team going to an Olympics with 9 https://olympics.ie/team-ireland-swimming-team-announced/
  17. 9 swimmers officially selected. Looks like they've used the relay team to get Brendan Hyland into the butterfly event. Shane Ryan listed as a relay participant too. Only 2 relay only swimmers https://olympics.ie/team-ireland-swimming-team-announced/ Others including McSharry, Wiffen and Walshe can swim their 2nd event too
  18. Team Ireland is nearing completion. We are currently at 91 (without reserves in rugby and hockey) with athletics still to be added: Hockey 16 (+3 reserves), Rowing 13, Rugby 12 (+1 reserve), Swimming 9, boxing 7, cycling 7 (track 4, road 3), equestrian 7 (eventing 3, jumping 3, dressage 1), golf 4, sailing 3, diving 2, triathlon 2, gymnastics 2, judo 2, canoe slalom 1, shooting 1, modern pentathlon 1, badminton 1, taekwondo 1 Athletics will be likely in the 26-30 range and will be confirmed soon
  19. The 4 seeds for each weight have now been confirmed. http://boxing.athlete365.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/20210706_Tokyo2020_Seeding.pdf
  20. I expect 3 for Ireland, and I hope for 6/7 6 is our highest ever total
  21. Suits me as I have Discovery Plus. The app is kinda clunky (particularly on sky) but they might have a dedicated Olympics section to help streamline it
  22. They had 28 in London including a relay team in Swimming and a mens handball team (who of course won silver in 2008). it's crazy to see only 3 universal spots this time round
  23. Oliver Dingley and Tanya Watson officially listed by FINA https://resources.fina.org/fina/document/2021/07/05/b9a5de03-6a1b-4037-9c84-00b16dd4016c/Diving-Qualified-Athletes-for-Tokyo-2020.pdf
  24. I find it hard to imagine that there'll be any action this year without a live feed. There mightn't be many channels showing it but it'll have a live feed for someone!
