  1. Mari was always a long shot to be fair. moorhouse won this morning. Fights Guatemala next Hopefully Aidan Walsh does the business later. He’s on about 9:45. I won’t get the result until much later myself
  2. No apology necessary. We all just give our opinions on here. Some times we get heated but the majority just want the best for their sports stars. And Irish sports officials have made some of the most embarrassing statements of all time, so there’s definitely no issue there with others doing their own
  3. I think that appeal is pretty shocking. Reads like something someone on here would write for our faves rather than anything else. “It is clear the Irish boxer did not want to box” as if that matters. Not a hope that Bach even reads it, never mind overturns it
  4. I wasn’t suggesting the love for Annmiek was undeserved! I think she’s been an amazing cyclist and ambassador for women’s sport. I was so happy she got to win the first women’s TDF
  5. As an outsider (who loves cycling), I think some of it is that AVV was so loved that Vollering threatening to disrupt AVV’s status as number one in her final years was seen as a negative on Demi. And they clearly didn’t get on personally themselves so the public mind set was to back AVV.
  6. No Olympics for Kelyn Cassidy. Lost another split decision today. On the back foot after he lost the first round on all cards
  7. Streams are live now on the Olympic Channel website
  8. The flip side of that is that Vollering is by far the best cyclist in the world
  9. There’s a great example. Not a single judge saw each of the 3 rounds the same way. If judge 1 gives the 3rd round against Walsh, then he loses. It’s so, so tight
  10. Live streams start tomorrow
  11. No. Haven’t watched it. I’m not suggesting you’re wrong or right. I’m just saying that the judges have different viewpoints so can literally see things differently. That’s all
  12. That’s how the box off works. Indian guy failed a doping test so a new spot was freed up. Tough one again for Aidan coming up but he’s given himself a great chance
  13. I think it's an important point to make about how hard some rounds are, particularly in the "amateur" game. One extremely tight round given to a fighter could be the difference. They don't watch TV angles either. They can only see whats in front of them from their own angle
  14. I was trying to be funny then. Some got it. I've always said that with this rubbish scoring system, the opportunity for "wrong" results is there. There's no question However some fans claim every defeat for one of their favourites as a robbery. That simply isn't true. And I find the complaining amusing
  15. Christ I hadn't even seen your reply. Ha ha.
  16. Your incessant complaints of robberies never cease to amuse me
  17. This afternoon's bouts 66kg Rd32 Grainne Walsh v 71kg Rd16 Aidan Walsh v Tomorrow morning bouts 80kg Rd16 Kelyn Cassidy v Tomorrow afternoon bouts 51kg Rd32 Sean Mari v Four tricky fights there. Suspect these are the big ones for Walsh, Walsh and Cassidy (though Aidan has no picnic in the next if he gets through)
  18. Fair. I didn’t look too deeply into them. Just don’t think Ireland will
  19. And the funny thing is he had to fight in the preliminary round! As of now, the only nations that can fill all 13 quotas are I don't think Ireland will. France might. Australia came in only needing one but they lost. Everyone else will be missing at least one
  20. Current Ireland Qualifiers The Ireland qualification period has finished. Swimmers with OQT (5) Tom Fannon (50m free) Daniel Wiffen (400m free, 800m free, 1,500m free) Mona McSharry (100m breast) Danielle Hill (50m free, 100m back) Ellen Walshe (200m IM, 400 IM - also has OCT for 100m fly) Swimmers with OCT Shane Ryan (100m free) Conor Ferguson (100m back) John Shortt (200m back) Max McCusker (100m fly) Ireland has qualified in the men's and women's 4x100m medley relay so can add 4 relay only athletes. I expect them to be 3 men and 1 woman if none of the swimmers with OCTs get invited. The team might not be announced for a while
  21. Was the round of 64. He fights Walsh in the round of 32 tomorrow
  22. LW double were third in Lucerne. Italy stole a march to win, neck and neck with Swiss all the way. Best case scenario, Fintan is recovering and this is a kick in the arse for them
  23. The final day is today and while there hasn’t been any further qualifiers, Danielle Hill has added the 50m free OQT and Ellen Walshe has added the 400 IM OQT Some more OCTs and a bunch of Irish records too
  24. Timoney has been injured so the first choice pair hasn’t raced. No idea if he’ll be OK for Paris but not ideal. Similar to the double. For what it’s worth my expectation has been one medal in rowing for a while now. Maybe 4 finalists and the women’s double might improve as Bergin matures but we’ve been closer to 4th than 2nd with our recent bronze winning partnerships so didn’t “expect” a medal there
